Abstract

The invention relates to an orthotic knee joint. The inventive orthosis reproduces the physiological curve of the knee such as to correspond perfectly with the variation in the instantaneous axis of rotation of same. The invention is based on a mechanism comprising four bars with a degree of freedom, which can be used to vary the position of the axis of rotation of the orthosis. According to the invention, the lower part (4) of the orthosis serves as a fixed reference, while the upper part (1) thereof serves as a follower. The orthosis further comprises cams (2 and 3) which are used to transmit changes from the upper part (1) to the lower part (4) thereof.

Description

Articulación ortésica de rodilla.Orthotic knee joint.

Objeto de la invenciónObject of the invention

The present invention relates to a orthotic knee joint, between the joints in this provision.

This invention characterizes a special joint construction that avoids the creation of efforts unwanted in the knee, based on a simple mechanism of four bars in which the fixed reference of the same acts in turn of cam adapting perfectly the transmission of efforts of the upper part to the lower part of the orthosis.

Antecedentes de la invenciónBackground of the invention

The use of media is widely known auxiliary to the articulation of the lower limbs, in case of broken bones or ligaments, the same as in other specials of pathologies such as, among others, spina bifida.

nados.
In these cases, it is usual to have joints with a single axis of rotation, under construction totally away from the knee rotation, which defines an instantaneous axis, in accordance with its three-dimensional structure and whose movement can be established by cutting this instantaneous axis by predetermined planes -
swims

This distance between the fixed axis and the physiological movement generates unwanted efforts that create a great discomfort from the inadequate transmission of movements, chafing on the skin and, when sitting, inside the pants, It breaks very easily.

With use, these orthoses can damage severely internal tissues: ligaments, cartilage and tendons

The applicant is unaware of the existence of an orthosis that solve the problem described above, with the simplicity and effectiveness of the invention that now proceeds to describe.

Descripción de la invenciónDescription of the invention

tesis.
The present invention relates to an orthotic knee joint, among all those joints in this arrangement, characterized by its construction based on a four-bar mechanism with a degree of freedom that varies the position of the axis of rotation of the orthosis in total correspondence with the variation of the instantaneous axis of rotation of the knee, taking care of a cam that is one of the bars of that mechanism, of the transmission of these changes from the top to the bottom of the or-
thesis.

To calculate in each orthotic design the dimensions of the mechanism and cam profile, as well as the suitable size, a calculation program based on genetic algorithms, avoiding all the problems described as well such as orthosis balances and possible future damages due to internal knee efforts.

Likewise, without losing the physiological design, it can block the mechanism, limiting the movements of the knee according to medical practice or according to wishes of the user according to a preset program, without affecting the physiological movement of the patient's knee.
