Abstract
The invention relates to a luminance-matching system based on a cellular automaton, which essentially operates using a set of differential equations. Said equations are coupled exclusively by means of interactions between neighbouring elements, i.e. each cell exchanges information exclusively with its four closest neighbours. Owing to the local nature of the system, it can be implemented in VLSI with a restricted dynamic range of luminosity levels and used by a wide range of circuits in which the input signal must be normalised during a subsequent processing step.
