Abstract

A tension member termination device comprises a socket, an insert (30) having slots (38, 40), which are sized to accept a single cord from the cords in the tension member (10) to be terminated, and a potting material to bond the cords, the insert and the socket together. Independent claims are also included for (a) a method for terminating a tension member comprising (i) inserting a terminal end of the tension member in the socket, (ii) stripping the terminal end to expose the individual cords, (iii) lacing the individual ones through the insert having cords and receiving slots, (iv) placing the insert in a laced condition into the socket, and (v) applying the potting material to the insert and socket to permanently anchor the cords (b) a tension member for an elevator system comprising load carrying cords, a coating layer separating the cords, and a termination device including a tensioner engageable with the cords and (c) and an elevator system including a car engaged with the tension member.
