Abstract
The gearbox is operated by an electronic control unit (1). The automatic gear unit (2) has a clutch (3) which is engaged and disengaged by a hydraulic control (4). The gearbox (5) has a gear-change unit (6) which may be hydraulic or pneumatic, and which engages and disengages different cogs as required. The gears may have e.g. 16 forward gears and two reverse gears. The electronic control unit (1) consists primarily of a proportionate magnetic valve (7) operating the clutch hydraulic control, a set of valves (8) controlling the gear change unit, a gear selection lever (9) in the vehicle cabin, and a microprocessor control unit (10). The microprocessor generates the signals necessary for operation of the magnetic valve and the valves, in response to input signals.
