Abstract

There are various techniques commonly used for the diagnosis of leishmaniosis, which however pose a number of fundamental problems, both in the diagnosis of human leishmaniosis and canine leishmaniosis. The objective of the "Kit for specific diagnosis of leishmaniasis caused by Leishmania infantum by the PCR-ELISA technique" is to improve the sensitivity and specificity of the diagnostic techniques of leishmaniasis currently used, overcoming the problems posed by them. The kit is based on the use, in a PCR, of primers (9 and 83) that amplify a specific fragment of Leishmania infantum, and in an ELISA, of an internal oligonucleotide probe, labeled with biotin, which also hybridizes specifically with the amplified fragment.
