Abstract
Procedure for obtaining activated carbon monoliths, obtained monoliths and their use. The process comprises the chemical activation of a carbonaceous material such as a lignocellulosic material or a mineral carbon, with a solution of a chemical activating agent, such as zinc dichloride, phosphoric acid or its salts, or an alkali, and formed by pressing of the particles impregnated before carbonization. The product obtained, optionally, can be physically activated with a gas such as carbon dioxide, water vapor or oxygen. The monoliths thus prepared have high density, high proportion of micropores, low volume of space between particles and high retention capacity of methane, are suitable for storage and supply of natural gas / methane, and can be used as fuel in cars, as well as in the storage in large tanks for the supply of city gas, in processes of purification / separation of gases, and as a catalyst support.
