Abstract

Machine for measuring the texture of agricultural soils.This device enables the surface microstructure to be characterised precisely and accurately. The said parameter is directly related to processes as important as erosion, runoff, distribution and type of aggregate, thermal properties and energy balance, atmospheric exchanges, reflection of solar radiation and evaporation.The machine has a frame, which acts as a physical support for the two different sensors. The instrumentation and measuring system consists basically of the sensors (two potentiometers, for recording the "X" and "Y" coordinates and a laser distance sensor to measure the "Z" coordinate), the laser signal conditioner, the analog-digital converter, the power supply and a portable PC type computer to control the data acquisition and recording process.
