Abstract

UN CATETER COMO EL CATETER DE DILATACION CON BALON (10) EMPLEADO EN PROCEDIMIENTOS ENDOSCOPICOS O QUIRURGICOS DE OTRO TIPO PUEDE HACERSE RESISTENTE A LAS TORSIONES MEDIANTE LA INCLUSION DE UN FILAMENTO FLEXIBLE DE NITINOL (24). EL FILAMENTO DE NITINOL (24) TIENE UNA TEMPERATURA DE TRANSICION BASTANTE INFERIOR A LA TEMPERATURA CORPORAL, POR LO QUE PERMANECE SUPERELASTICO DURANTE EL USO DEL CATETER (10), Y PERMITE QUE EL CATETER NO ESTE TORSIONADO A PESAR DE LAS VUELTAS Y CURVATURAS AGUDAS QUE RETUERCEN DE UN MODO INACEPTABLE CATETERES SIMILARES DOTADOS DE FILAMENTOS DE ACERO INOXIDABLE U OTROS MATERIALES. POR ESTE MOTIVO SE REDUCE LA PROBABILIDAD DE LESIONES DEL PACIENTE CAUSADAS POR EL CATETER. EL CATETER (10) CONSTA DE UN CUERPO TUBULAR DE POLIURETANO (12) QUE POSEE UNA LUZ PARA FLUJO LIQUIDO (14) DEFINIDA Y UN BALON PET EXPANDIBLE PERO NO DISTENSIBLE (18) CONECTADO AL EXTREMO DISTAL (16) DEL CUERPO (12) EN CONTACTO LIQUIDO CON LA LUZ (14). EL CATETER (10) INCLUYE TAMBIEN UNA PUNTA DE CATETER FLEXIBLE (22) SITUADA EN EL BALON (18) OPUESTA AL CUERPO DEL CATETER (12). EL FILAMENTO DE NITINOL (24) SE SITUA ENTRE EL BALON DEL CATETER (18) Y LA PUNTA DEL CATETER (22) Y OCUPA PREFERIBLEMENTE TODA LA LONGITUD DEL CUERPO DEL CATETER (12) A LO LARGO DE LA LUZ DE FLUJO (14). LAS POSICIONES LONGITUDINALES DEL FILAMENTO DE NITINOL (24) Y DEL BALON (18) SE FIJAN ENTRE SI MEDIANTE UN INTRODUCTOR RADIOOPACO (32) SITUADO EN EL EXTREMO DISTAL (16) DEL CUERPO DEL CATETER (12). EL FILAMENTO DE NITINOL (24) DEBE POSEER UNA PARTE AFILADA (28) QUE SE EXTIENDA DESDE UNA POSICION (30) SITUADA EN EL INTERIOR DEL BALON (18) HASTA EL EXTREMO DISTAL DEL FILAMENTO DE NITINOL (24) EN LA PUNTA FLEXIBLE DEL CATETER (22). PUEDE CONECTARSE UN CONO LUER HEMBRA CONVENCIONAL (38) AL CUERPO DEL CATETER (12) OPUESTO AL BALON (18) Y AL EXTREMO DISTAL (16) DEL CUERPO (12).A CATHETER LIKE THE BALL DILATION CATHETER (10) USED IN ANOTHER ENDOSCOPIC OR SURGICAL PROCEDURES MAY BECOME TORSION RESISTANT BY INCLUSION OF A FLEXIBLE FILAMENT OF NITINOL (24). THE NITINOL FILAMENT (24) HAS A TRANSITION TEMPERATURE ENOUGH LOWER THAN BODY TEMPERATURE, SO IT REMAINS SUPERELASTIC DURING THE USE OF THE CATHETER (10), AND ALLOWS THE CATHETER TO NOT BE TORQUEED IN spite of the TURNS AND CURVATURES THAT ARE RETURN IN AN UNACCEPTABLE WAY SIMILAR CATHETERS EQUIPPED WITH STAINLESS STEEL FILAMENTS OR OTHER MATERIALS. FOR THIS REASON, THE PROBABILITY OF PATIENT INJURIES CAUSED BY THE CATHETER IS REDUCED. THE CATHETER (10) CONSISTS OF A POLYURETHANE TUBULAR BODY (12) THAT HAS A DEFINED LIQUID FLOW LIGHT (14) AND AN EXPANDABLE BUT NON-DISTENSIBLE BALL (18) CONNECTED TO THE DISTAL END (16) OF THE BODY (12) IN LIQUID CONTACT WITH LIGHT (14). THE CATHETER (10) ALSO INCLUDES A FLEXIBLE CATHETER POINT (22) LOCATED ON BALL (18) OPPOSITE TO THE CATHETER BODY (12). THE NITINOL FILAMENT (24) IS LOCATED BETWEEN THE CATHETER BALL (18) AND THE CATHETER POINT (22) AND PREFERABLY OCCUPIES THE ENTIRE LENGTH OF THE CATHETER BODY (12) ALONG THE LIGHT OF FLOW (14). THE LONGITUDINAL POSITIONS OF THE NITINOL FILAMENT (24) AND THE BALL (18) ARE FIXED BETWEEN THEMSELVES BY A RADIOOPOUS INTRODUCER (32) LOCATED AT THE DISTAL END (16) OF THE CATHETER BODY (12). THE NITINOL FILAMENT (24) MUST POSSESS A SHARP PART (28) THAT EXTENDS FROM A POSITION (30) LOCATED INSIDE THE BALL (18) TO THE EXTREME DISTAL OF THE NITINOL FILAMENT (24) AT THE FLEXIBLE TIP OF THE CATHETER (22). A CONVENTIONAL FEMALE LUER CONE (38) CAN BE CONNECTED TO THE CATHETER BODY (12) OPPOSITE TO THE BALL (18) AND TO THE DISTAL END (16) OF THE BODY (12).
