Abstract

Optical sensor for controlling a liquid level consisting of: 1) a capsule with various optoelectronic devices, 2) a transmitter (LED), 3) a photodiode monitor, 4) a glass window, 5) a receiver (LDR), 6) a temperature sensor and 7) liquid penetration orifices.The operation of the device is based on the variation in resistance of a LDR as a function of the intensity of the light falling on it. This radiation is reduced by the interposition of an opaque medium or one with a refractive index that is different from the air between the transmitter and the LDR receiver.Its application is directed at the automobile, aerospace or power industry or any industrial sector in which storage tanks are used.As improvements are suggested: increasing the temperature range, working with solids, microprocessor control, remote control with fibre optics via a PC, multiplexing signals from different tanks or different points in the same tank and different orientations.
