Abstract
In the process for re-using and recycling organic polymers, especially plastics, containing heavy metals, containing heavy-metal additives like pigments, stabilisers and fillers, the organic polymers are melted and thermally decomposed with the separation of the polymers. The alkane and olefine-containing fraction which is volatile at the decomposition temperature is condensed and retained. The non-volatile residue is then subjected to extraction by a solvent consisting of the alkane and olefine-containing fraction retained. A solid residue with a concentrated heavy-metal content and a fluid extract with the main proportion of the organic components are obtained. The process can be continuous. The residue containing the concentrated heavy metals can be disposed of separately, with reclaiming possible in the metal processing industry. The organic components can be used as industrial fuel.
