Abstract
Método para la calibración de espectrómetros por efecto Cherenkov de radionucleidos. Utiliza el efecto Cherenkov de radionucleidos que se desintegran emitiendo partículas beta menos, beta más, captura electrónica seguida de emisiones gamma, o se desexcita por conversión interna y emisión de fotones gamma, y está basado en un modelo de dos parámetros libres. El procedimiento pasa por el cálculo del espectro de electrones, el cálculo del espectro de luz Cherenkov, la obtención de los parámetros de conversión luminosa y simetría y la eficiencia de recuento para dos fotomultiplicadores en coincidencia. Este sistema solo requiere conocer la eficiencia de recuento de dos radionucleidos para poder calibrar cualquier otro, con tal que emita partículas con energía superior al umbral Cherenkov de la solución en el que se incorporan los radionucleidos.El método es de aplicación en industrias dedicadas a la construcción de equipos nucleares de centelleo líquido y en vigilancia ambiental.Method for the calibration of spectrometers by Cherenkov effect of radionuclides. It uses the Cherenkov effect of radionuclides that decay by emitting beta minus, beta plus particles, electron capture followed by gamma emissions, or is de-excited by internal conversion and gamma photon emission, and is based on a two free parameter model. The procedure goes through the calculation of the electron spectrum, the calculation of the Cherenkov light spectrum, obtaining the parameters of light conversion and symmetry and the counting efficiency for two coinciding photomultipliers. This system only requires knowing the counting efficiency of two radionuclides in order to calibrate any other, as long as it emits particles with energy higher than the Cherenkov threshold of the solution in which the radionuclides are incorporated.The method is applicable in industries dedicated to the construction of nuclear equipment for liquid scintillation and environmental monitoring.
