Abstract

The lock unit has a lock (2) fitted to the edge of a door (9). The lock has a key operated cylinder (5) displacing a bolt (5) in translation. When the door is in the closed position the bolt engages a box (3) fitted to the frame of the door.The face of the box also has, above the box receiving the bolt, a vertical catch bar (13), which has a recess to accept the catch (6) of the lock. The catch bar rotates from one position to another to engage or release the catch. By allowing the catch bar to rotate in either sense to release the catch the lock can be used with either right-hand or left-hand opening doors. An electrically operated mechanism (21) can block the catch bar so that it cannot rotate to the release position, allowing electrical control of the lock release.
