Abstract

A machine (1) to protect against erasure or fraudulent manipulation, modification and/or duplication of any document carrying a toner image includes a supply cassette (5), a collector cassette (7), with a polyester film (6) positioned by tensioners (8) to run between two main rollers (12) placed very near together with parallel axes and having electrical resistance heaters and between which the film passes, while the document to be protected is driven through a guide chamber (13) by a roller (15) to pass between the main rollers (12) in contact with the lower face of the film, to transfer a layer on the film to the document and improve the permanence of the toner. The layer may be totally transferred or partially transferred to the document. Alternatively the apparatus may be used without the film if the rollers (12) have engraved surfaces to emboss the toner image or a plastics coating applied thereto.
