Abstract

The data reduction system is used to reduce the quantity of data relating to the driving and traffic conditions and the vehicle geographical position transmitted between each floating car of a vehicle fleet and the traffic control centre. The information obtained at intervals defined in terms of time or the distance travelled is exchanged between vehicles within a common vehicle group, before transmission to the traffic control centre via a selected vehicle within the group, e.g. via a radio telephone link. Pref. the information is exchanged between all vehicles within a defined area, between directly following vehicles, or between all the vehicles using the same road.
