Abstract

System for automatic counting of people 1 who are moving in two main directions of movement, it being possible for each person to move at the same speed or at different speeds and in each one of the directions of movement. Operation is based on the digital processing of the images acquired from the projection of a light pattern 2 with characteristics which are different from the ambient light, which are acquired by means of an optical filter 4. These data, together with the identification of the direction of movement by means of the acquisition of images by a complementary camera 5, detect and count the passage of people through the zone of reference with the light pattern. The system is flexible for application in different types of enclosure and with different lighting conditions, being provided for use in the counting of people passing through doors, entering or leaving enclosures or moving along corridors.
