Abstract

The reduction in consumption of electric energy in lighting networks is achieved by reducing the power supply voltage to the lines of the light bulbs by utilising autotransformers, transformers and triacs or any other means of reduction of alternating voltage. The switching from the condition of full consumption to reduction is done with contactors which carry two normally closed contacts and two normally open ones, which operate simultaneously. The graph shows the power and control diagram, with the connections, in order to apply the reduction to a single-phase 220 volt network utilising an autotransformer (see functioning). It can be made to operate by clock programming. The system can be applied to any alternating current lighting network. In public lighting, it is programmed to enter into operation when the traffic density decreases and the level of illumination can be reduced.
