Abstract

Rotary biological contactor for the purification of wastewater. Provided with a horizontal shaft 1 driven by a motor/reduction gear unit 3 on which is mounted an operating drum 4, its features being centered on the fact that the said drum is obtained on the basis of at least one continuous strip 5 wound spirally on the shaft 1, the said laminar strip being of thermoplastic material with a series of recesses 6 having a trajectory which is inclined with respect to the shaft of the drum, linear recesses 6 which are broken up by means of small interruptions 7 which in turn form transverse lines across the drum in order to ease rolling of the said strip about the shaft 1, these recesses 6 defining oblique axial exit channels to the exterior for sludge.
