Abstract
Device, system and procedure for electrically insulating the metal structure of a vessel from an external earth. The invention relates to a device, system and procedure for electrically insulating the metal structure of a vessel from an external earth, the said device being intended to be inserted into a connection between the said metal structure of a vessel and an external earth. The said device comprises first and second means of connection for being electrically connected to the metal structure of a vessel and to the external earth, respectively, at least, a first and second electrode electrically connected to the first and second means of connection, respectively, the said second electrode spaced a specified distance apart from the said first electrode, means for accommodating an electrolyte, so that this is in contact with the said first and second electrodes, which are arranged so that in the presence of the electrolyte the device behaves like a substantially open circuit in the face of a continuous voltage of an amplitude less than a first specified threshold, and like a substantially closed circuit in the face of an alternating voltage of an amplitude greater than a second specified threshold, both applied between the first and the second means of connection.
