Process for the polymerization of the styrene emulsion characterized in that an aqueous emulsion containing styrene 1-hydroxy-1'-hydroperoxy-dicyclohexylene peroxide is prepared as a catalyst, an emulsifier chosen from the class consisting of myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid and glycerol monostearate. In an amount from 0 1 to 0 6 parts per 100 parts of monomer and an alkali hydroxide in an amount equivalent to the acid component of the emulsifier and heating of this emulsion is proceeded.
