Abstract

This is a device, two or more times the length of the thickness of the tendon 1 where it will be inserted, formed by a shaft 4 which supports one or more pairs (preferably three) of barbs 9 and 10, which are auto- expandable, each pair being arranged with opposed concavity. This device is injected inside the tendon, between the two sections to be sutured, by means of a hollow needle 6 inside which is the device with its barbs 9 folded, said device being pushed by means of a plunger 8 in order to extract it from inside the needle, the barbs, on emerging from the needle (as shown in the figure), expanding, giving rise to a suitable tension between the sutured ends, thus allowing the suture 2 to be free from tension, which allows early rehabilitation (healing) with the consequent reduction in the formation of adherences. The device is particularly indicated in the suturing of flexor tendons in the hand in the no man's land zone (Verdan zone II).
