Abstract

Procedure to design a microwave amplifier with given reflection loss, noise factor and transducer gain specifications, which consists of a method of obtaining the loads which must to be connected to a given transistor, such that the load input-transistor-load combination constitutes an amplifier which satisfies the following requirements: a. standing-wave ratio at the amplifier input less than a given ratio, b. transducer gain greater than a given gain, c. noise factor less than a given factor and, d. standing-wave ratio at the amplifier output less than a given ratio. It utilises feedback techniques and transformed design circles, it does not employ optimisation techniques nor testing and error methods, and achieves, without additional calculations, the more exacting specifications that could be obtained with the transistor employed. It is applied to the area of space communications and radar systems.
