SU AMBITO DE APLICACION ES SU EMPLEO COMO ARIDOS EN CARRETERAS, OTRAS OBRAS PUBLICAS Y HORMIGONES. LAS VENTAJAS FUNDAMENTALES SON LA REUTILIZACION DE UN RESIDUO ALTAMENTE CONTAMINANTE (BARROS ROJOS DEL PROCESO BAYER), Y EVITAR LA UTILIZACION DE ARIDOS EXTRAIDOS DE CANTERAS (ELIMINANDO SU IMPACTO NEGATIVO EN EL MEDIO AMBIENTE).THE PRESENT INVENTION IS REFERRED TO A PROCEDURE FOR THE OBTAINING OF ARIDES FROM RED MUDS OF THE BAYER PROCESS, BY GRANULATED DRYING AND HIGH TEMPERATURE CALCINATION. THE PROCEDURE ALLOWS THE OBTAINING OF A CHEMICALLY INERT GRANULATED MATERIAL, OF MODERATELY HIGH DENSITY AND OF GREAT HARDNESS AND RESISTANCE TO ABRASION. THEIR SCOPE OF APPLICATION IS THEIR USE AS HARDWAYS ON ROADS, OTHER PUBLIC WORKS AND CONCRETE. THE FUNDAMENTAL ADVANTAGES ARE THE REUSE OF A HIGHLY CONTAMINATING WASTE (RED MUD FROM THE BAYER PROCESS), AND AVOIDING THE USE OF QUARRELY REMOVED ARID (ELIMINATING ITS NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT).
