Abstract

The dressing, for treatment of skin lesions and ulcers, has a layer in contact with the wound formed by a pseudo-plastic mass of polysaccharides and other hydro-colloids in an elastomeric supporting matrix, together with mono- and di-saccharides, medium-chain tri-glycerides as active substrates and vegetable extracts with mild bacterial action. The second layer consists of a foam capable of absorbing exudate from the lesion by its capillarity or hydropholic nature, when the first layer is saturated. The micro-porous outer layer serves as a barrier to bacterial infection.
