Abstract
Process for obtaining secondary acrylic acid esters. Comprises reacting acrylic acid and monoolefins in a continuous or batch process in the presence of cation exchange resins containing strongly acid sulphonic groups operating within a temperature range lying between 50 and 120 degree C, at a pressure of between 10 and 30 kg/cm2, using a molar olefin/acrylic acid ratio of between 0.3 and 10 for a reaction or contact time of between 0.5 and 4 hours. The esters obtained have application in polymerisation processes yielding very hard polymers with high resistance to both heat and hydrolysis. Figure 1 shows a graph of the effect of the olefin/acrylic acid ratio on acrylic acid conversion.
