Abstract

This is an apparatus for calorimetric and/or nefelometric analysis which makes it possible to determine the concentration of a specific ion, or dissolved element, by comparison of the original sample with the same solution, incremented by a preset amount of the same substance which is to be analyzed. The apparatus has two compartments in which the specific ion or element reaction takes place by means of the addition of the reagents which are appropriate to the case, which is made clearly apparent through colouring (staining) or clouding. The comparison of colour or turbidity takes place between the two contiguous solutions, one (that which contains the problem liquid) cylindrical or prismatic, the other in the form of a wedge or prismatic, which allows the introduction of a wedge-shaped piece so that the space left may be occupied by the liquid and gradual absorbance can take place on account of variations in the thickness of the liquid layer (optical path).
