Abstract

Device for controlling the flow in a tube system, such as a drain (culvert, sewer), comprises a vortex (vortical) chamber with inlet and outlet and a hatch outside the inlet which can be displaced more or less downwards in front of the inlet. When the hatch obstructs part of the inlet, the liquid is able to flow without obstacles in the vortex chamber if its upper level does not reach the lower edge of the hatch. If the level of current at the top exceeds said lower edge, part of the incoming flow will be directed downwards around the lower edge which is configured so that the liquid which enters from above starts a contraction of the incoming stream, thus accelerating its rate and increasing the braking effect. Thus, the device according to the invention may be designed with an inlet larger than the chamber, increasing its capacity at low upward current pressures and reducing the risk of blockage.
