EP--10937 A The end of a flexible package is closed by string which is initially formed into a loop projecting from a pair of clamps which secure its ends. A movable arm grips the looped end of the string and first advances it round the package until it is adjacent the clamp. The loop is then passed round the clamped ends and pulled back round the package by the arm to form a knot. - Pref. the looped string is supplied attached to a backing paper by a melted thermoplastic material. The action of tying the knot pulls the string from the backing paper which is then indexed to deliver the next loop to the knotting station. - The apparatus knots the ends of a filled sausage.
