Abstract

A display system creating an impression of travelling, multi-coloured images by the scanning of a dot matrix array (25) of illuminating elements (10) of different colours arranged in the matrix so that alternating colours of elements occur in the direction of travel of images, and including a data store (13) for binary representation of said images and controlling illumination of individual ones of said illuminating elements so as to effect illumination of consecutive elements of different colours in spaced rows whereby apparent movement of the image is discerned and due to the Beta effect the perceived pixel of the image is of different colour from the colours of the illuminated elements.
