Abstract

Fuse (I) has a duct of 0.19-78.5 sq.mms internal cross sectional area with its inner surface coated with a pyrotechnic material (II). (II) comprises fuel (III), oxidiser (IV) plus binder (V). Deflagration of (II) generates a plasma to transfer thermal energy between the ends of the duct. Fuel (III) may be Mg, Al, Si and/or alloys, etc. (IV) is e.g. NaNO3, CaSO4, sulphur, etc., and (V) may be a dextrin, gum, etc. The duct is fabricated from e.g. PVC, rubber, glass, etc.
