Definitions

  • the invention relates to a scroll pump with a stator comprising a stator spiral component and an orbiter comprising an orbiter spiral component that engages with the stator spiral component.
  • a scroll pump is a positive displacement pump that compresses against atmospheric pressure and can be used, among other things, as a compressor.
  • a scroll vacuum pump can be used to create a vacuum in a container connected to the gas inlet.
  • Scroll vacuum pumps are also known as spiral vacuum pumps or spiral conveying devices.
  • a pump stage of a scroll pump comprises two nested or interlocked spiral cylinders, for example, Archimedean spiral cylinders, which are hereinafter also referred to as spiral components.
  • Each spiral cylinder includes at least one equidistant spiral wall with a support plate provided on one end face of the spiral wall.
  • the outer turns of the spiral cylinder can be formed by wall sections that are each at a constant circumferential distance from the center of the spiral components. Although these wall sections do not strictly constitute spiral sections, in this context they are considered part of the spiral component and referred to as its turns.
  • the spiral cylinders are nested inside each other in such a way that the two spiral cylinders partially enclose crescent- or sickle-shaped volumes.
  • One of the two spiral components is immobile or fixed within the housing.
  • the pump is arranged, whereas the other spiral component, together with its carrier plate, can be moved on a circular path via an eccentric drive, which is why this movable spiral component together with its carrier plate is also called an orbiter.
  • the movable spiral component thus performs a so-called centrally symmetrical oscillation, which is also referred to as "wobbling” or “orbiting".
  • a crescent-shaped volume enclosed between the spiral cylinders migrates increasingly inwards within the spiral components during the orbiting of the movable spiral component, whereby process gas is conveyed by means of the migrating volume from a radially outer gas inlet to a gas outlet located radially in the center of the spiral.
  • a first seal also known as a tip seal
  • a tip seal is, for example, a plastic compound, such as PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), with a rectangular cross-section.
  • a second seal also called a tip seal
  • a tip seal can be provided on the end face of the stationary spiral or stationary spiral cylinder that faces a moving wall.
  • tip seals allow the crescent-shaped volumes enclosed by the scroll cylinders to be sealed at the end faces of the scroll cylinders.
  • the tip seals prevent internal backflow within the scroll pump or within the scroll contour in the axial direction, thus reducing, for example, the ultimate pressure achievable with a scroll vacuum pump.
  • Tip Seals are only establish indirect contact between the moving and stationary spiral components. Indirect in this context means that the spiral components themselves do not touch, thus preventing wear.
  • the Tip Seals close the gap between the spiral components in an axial direction perpendicular to the eccentric rotation of the moving spiral component. In other words, instead of contacting an end face of the spiral components, the Tip Seal contacts an opposing wall.
  • the defined wear pattern of the tip seals prevents wear on the spiral components, as there is no contact between them. Contact between the spiral components could cause permanent damage to the scroll pump and reduce its operational reliability.
  • the tip seals require a complex manufacturing process for the scroll pump, as a recess or groove must be machined into the respective end faces of the spiral components to accommodate the individual tip seal. This process demands tight tolerances, which increases the manufacturing costs of the scroll pump. This applies both to the machining of the groove or recess and to the manufacturing of the individual tip seals themselves.
  • wear particles can be released from a scroll pump into the surrounding atmosphere during the pumping process, causing a certain amount of dust pollution. Such emissions of wear particles should be avoided in terms of environmental protection and sustainability.
  • the scroll pump requires maintenance after a certain period, with the operating time until maintenance being determined by the material properties of the tip seals. In other words, the tip seals limit the operating time available before the scroll vacuum pump requires maintenance.
  • One object of the invention is to create a scroll pump that eliminates the need for tip seals and similar seals between spiral components, while still achieving sufficient operational reliability and the required ultimate pressure of the scroll pump.
  • the scroll pump according to the invention which is in particular a scroll vacuum pump, comprises a stator, which includes a stator spiral component, and an orbiter, which includes an orbiter spiral component that engages with the stator spiral component.
  • the orbiter spiral component is further configured to perform an eccentric movement about an axis of rotation relative to the stator. This axis of rotation defines an axial direction within the scroll pump.
  • the stator spiral component has a stator end face, while the orbiter spiral component has an orbiter end face that is axially opposite and spaced apart from the stator end face.
  • At least one spacer element is arranged on the stator end face or the orbiter end face, projecting axially beyond the stator end face or orbiter end face on which it is arranged.
  • the spacer element also has a predefined axial distance relative to the opposite stator end face or orbiter end face, i.e., relative to the stator end face or orbiter end face on which the spacer element is not arranged.
  • the spacer element comprises a material that differs from the respective material on the stator end face and the orbiter end face by at least one tribological property.
  • the tribological property can relate, for example, to the hardness and/or the coefficient of sliding friction of the materials.
  • the spacer element may have a lower hardness than the material on the surface opposite the spacer element, i.e., the material on the stator end face or the orbiter end face.
  • the spacer element material in combination with the material of the opposite surface, may exhibit a lower coefficient of sliding friction than would be the case if the material of the opposite surface were interacting with itself.
  • tip seals can be omitted within the scroll pump according to the invention.
  • the scroll pump can therefore be free of a tip seal. This means that such a scroll pump generally has no seal in the form of a tip seal between the stator and the orbiter that contacts the respective opposing end faces.
  • the scroll pump can therefore also be referred to as a tip-sealless scroll pump.
  • tip seals are located at the tips or ends of spiral walls within the scroll pump and contact a wall of the opposite spiral component, they require tight manufacturing tolerances. This applies both to the dimensions of the tip seals themselves and to the dimensions of the grooves or recesses in which they are located.
  • the at least one spacer element can be arranged in any region on the end face of one of the spiral components, wherein the end face for arranging the spacer element comprises both the spiral walls and surfaces on support plates to which the spiral walls are attached and which face the other spiral component.
  • tip seals have a long, cord-like contour along the spiral component to which they are attached.
  • simpler contours can be used or implemented for the spacer element of the scroll pump described here.
  • the spacer element projects axially beyond the end face of the stator or orbiter on which it is mounted, the predefined distance between the spacer element and the opposite face is smaller than the distance between the stator end face and the orbiter end face.
  • a gap must always be maintained between the tip of the spiral wall of each spiral component and the opposite support plate of the other spiral component to ensure that the respective base bodies of the stator spiral component and the orbiter spiral component do not touch during operation of the scroll pump.
  • such a gap must be as small as possible, i.e., have the narrowest possible width, in order to minimize backflow within the scroll pump and to achieve the intended ultimate pressure of the scroll pump.
  • the gap width between the stator spiral component and the orbiter spiral component i.e., for example, between the respective tip of each spiral wall and the surface of the opposite support plate, should be less than 50 ⁇ m.
  • the gap width between the stator spiral component and the orbiter spiral component can change continuously during operation of the scroll pump. Such a change depends on the pressure and temperature distribution within the spiral components, as well as other factors, such as the rotational speed of the scroll pump. Therefore, contact between the spiral components could occur during operation of the scroll pump, even though the spiral components are designed to be in contact with each other. They were initially mounted without contact, meaning there is no contact between them when the scroll pump is switched off.
  • the spacer element according to the invention is therefore designed to allow a defined contact between the spiral components during operation of the scroll pump in such a way that no contact occurs between the base bodies of the stator spiral component and the orbiter spiral component. Instead, a defined, brief contact may only occur between the at least one spacer element and the opposite wall.
  • Wear therefore does not occur on the base bodies of the scroll components, but rather on the spacer element, which differs from the material of the stator scroll component and the orbiter scroll component due to at least one tribological property of its material.
  • the spacer element has a lower hardness than the material of the opposing surface and/or forms a tribological system with a reduced coefficient of sliding friction together with the opposing surface, less wear occurs on the spacer element compared to contact between the scroll components themselves, i.e., compared to contact between their base bodies. This further extends the service life of the scroll pump before maintenance is required.
  • the at least one spacer element can be arranged as an additional element in a recess or groove of the stator spiral component, which is recessed into the corresponding end face. After being attached to the stator spiral component or the orbiter spiral component, the at least one spacer element protrudes, for example, less than 0.1 mm relative to the surrounding surface.
  • an outer contour of the spacer corresponds in particular to the shape of the recess or groove.
  • the spacer can also be manufactured as a single, solid element from a material that is softer or has a lower hardness than the material of the opposing surface on the stator spiral component or the orbiter spiral component.
  • a coating of the softer or lower-hardness material can be applied to a base body to manufacture the spacer.
  • the predefined distance between the spacer element and the opposite stator end face or orbiter end face is less than a threshold value that depends on a target end pressure of the scroll pump.
  • the target end pressure of the scroll pump is the pressure that the scroll pump is intended to achieve during operation with respect to its specific application. If the scroll pump is designed as a scroll vacuum pump, the target end pressure is, for example, a minimum pressure or vacuum required for a specific application of the pump.
  • the threshold value provided for the predefined distance can also depend on other parameters, such as the temperature of the scroll pump.
  • the gap width between the stator spiral component and the orbiter spiral component should be as small as possible to minimize backflow within the scroll pump, and should be, for example, less than 50 ⁇ m. This means that the predefined distance between the spacer element and the opposite stator end face or orbiter end face must be smaller than the gap width between the stator spiral component and the orbiter spiral component to prevent contact between the base bodies of the stator spiral component and the orbiter spiral component.
  • the stator end face or orbiter end face opposite the spacer element has a region that differs from the rest of the spiral component, i.e., the stator spiral component or orbiter spiral component, by at least one material property.
  • a coating can be applied to the end face opposite the spacer element, which causes the end face in the region of the coating to differ from the rest of the surface of the stator spiral element or orbiter spiral element, for example, with regard to hardness and/or coefficient of sliding friction.
  • the spacer element can form a tribological system with the area on the opposite face, exhibiting optimized sliding properties, such as a minimization of the specific wear rate or the coefficient of sliding friction.
  • the area on the opposite face with which the spacer element comes into contact can have a greater hardness and strength than both the spacer element and the base body of the spiral element onto which the coating is applied. Nevertheless, the coating can still exhibit good sliding properties, i.e., a reduced coefficient of sliding friction relative to the spacer element compared to the base body of the respective spiral component.
  • the coating has a lower surface roughness within the area on the opposite end face that can come into contact with the spacer element.
  • aluminum oxide ceramics, sliding lacquers with solid lubricant additives, and hard metal coatings can be used as coatings for the area on the opposite end face.
  • a counter-element can be arranged on the stator end face or orbiter end face opposite the spacer element, which projects axially beyond the stator end face or orbiter end face on which it is arranged and is oriented with respect to at least one material property differs from that of the stator end face or the orbiter end face on which it is located.
  • a counter element associated with the spacer element can be attached to the opposite end face of the stator spiral component or the orbiter spiral component.
  • the counter element can thus be considered a second spacer element, which, together with the spacer element opposite it, defines a minimum gap width between the stator spiral component and the orbiter spiral component.
  • the spacer element and the counter element can briefly touch in a defined manner to prevent contact between the base bodies of the stator spiral component or the orbiter spiral component.
  • the axial distance between the spacer element and the counter element can be smaller than the minimum axial distance between the stator end face and the orbiter end face. This allows the spacer element and counter element to briefly touch during operation of the scroll pump before the stator end face and the orbiter end face actually make contact.
  • the material of the spacer element and the material of the counter element can be selected such that the spacer element and the counter element form a tribological system in which the specific wear rate and/or coefficient of sliding friction for these elements is lower than for the materials of the stator end face and the orbiter end face.
  • the spacer element and the counter element can form a tribological system with optimized sliding properties, i.e., with a minimized specific wear rate and/or a minimized coefficient of sliding friction.
  • the specific wear rate and/or the coefficient of sliding friction of such a tribological system can be lower than a predetermined threshold and/or lie within a predefined range.

  • the spacer element is arranged in a radial direction, perpendicular to the axial direction, outside the respective spiral of the stator spiral component and the orbiter spiral component. This ensures that any potential contact between the spacer element and the opposite end face of the stator or the orbiter occurs in an area outside the respective spirals, thus preventing damage or deformation of the spirals due to such contact.
  • the spacer element can be formed as a ring-shaped component extending around the entire circumference of the orbiter or stator, located outside the stator and orbiter spirals.

Abstract

Description

Fig. 2).
Fig. 3B ein zylinderförmiges bzw. quaderförmiges Abstandselement 240.
Fig. 1).
Fig. 5B zeigt eine Schnittansicht entlang der Linie A-A in Fig. 5A.
Fig. 1). Fig. 1) der Scrollpumpe 200 zu messen.
Fig. 2).
Fig. 7) angezeigt wird.
Fig. 2) in Eingriff.
