APPARATUS AND A METHOD FOR
GLUING AND MIXING PARTICLES WITH AN ADHESIVE
The invention refers to an apparatus for gluing and mixing particles with an adhesive according to claim 1 .
Furthermore the invention refers to a method for gluing and mixing particles with an adhesive according to claim 18.
Furthermore an stage of extension is described for existing apparatuses
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In the production of boards out of shredded material, there are used predominately flow able or free-flowing particles of differing sizes, mostly containing lignocellulose and/or cellulose, such as fibers, chips and the like. After usually having being provided with binder agents, these particles are discharged out of a dosing or metering hopper and delivered to a spreading head as a spreading apparatus. At least one such apparatus is used as a forming station in combination with an endlessly rotating belt. Through the spreading head, the particles, chips or fibers are spread to form a fleece or mat or layers of these onto a continuously running forming belt, and are then formed to a finished panel in a subsequent pressing station, mostly by heat and pressure.
As for the definition of boards there are mostly particleboards, fiberboards and boards made out of material with greater dimensions than fibers and particles, whereas the greater material is able to be oriented by the scattering apparatus
to obtain layers of similar oriented material, mostly length or cross to the working direction, usually referred to as oriented stranded boards (OSB). Fiberboards mostly consists out of fibers, usually prepared by refiners and preferably glued in a so called blow-line.
As a matter of fact next to the costs of the raw materials comprising cellulose or lignocellulose the used adhesive or glue as binder has to be taken into account in the production process to obtain good opportunities for selling the manufactured products in the market or to the finishing industry. Therefore it is basically known that the injection of adhesive into a stream of fibers or particles has a significant influence on the costs but in almost the same important manner the quality of the distribution of the adhesive onto the particles is essential to obtain products with a high quality. As of late a lot of inventions have been made public about solutions for better achievements in the gluing sector.
Some of these might be DE 16 32 450 B2, EP 1 670 623 B1 , EP 2 213431 B1 , EP 2 704 884 B1 , EP 2 718 069 B1 , EP 2 939 807 B1 , US 3 198655 A, US 4 323 314 A, US 6 197 236 B1 , US 9 114 577 B2 or WO 2003 106 127 A1.
These publications are the state of the art from which the invention would like to start. The main disadvantages are coagulations of adhesive and/or glued particles in the process which disturb the following apparatuses in such plants and usually cause troubles in the production process. On top the producers are used to short maintenance intervals due to caking of the glued particles and/or the adhesive on the conveyors or following up apparatuses like bunkers, spreading units and so on.
Finally the lost adhesive due to such occurrences results in loss of expensive adhesive or glue and the usual approach is to send more glue as efficiently needed into the system.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The problems mentioned above should be addressed by the invention by creating an apparatus and a method for gluing particles.
The object of the invention is therefore to create an apparatus with which adhesive can be applied to particles or similar particles at high quality and efficiently so that the glued particles allow efficient production of products of high quality. Especially the mixing area of the adhesive with the particles should be enhanced. Secondly the second mixing effect of mixing glued particles with other glued particles and/or not yet glued particles should be established or enhanced. Caking of adhesive and/or glued particles should be reduced or avoided in the particles and in the gluing system as well.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The problems are solved for such an apparatus, such a method and such a board by the features of the main claims.
Regarding the apparatus the invention emanates of an apparatus for gluing and mixing particles with at least a part of an adhesive in the course of producing shaped bodies, especially fiberboards.
In such an apparatus the particles are pneumatically suspended and/or transported as a particle stream in a circular pipe with an inner diameter, wherein a gluing system is arranged in, along or as part of the pipe, wherein said gluing system consists out of a tube connected at least with one opening of the tube with the pipe using at least one flange, wherein in said tube a body is centrally arranged with a holding structure within the inner diameter of the tube, wherein said body features a front at least partially with a streamlined contour towards the oncoming particle stream and
wherein at least one nozzle for the delivery of adhesive onto the particles of the particle stream is arranged at, preferably in the rear of, the body.
The particle stream can also be regarded as a falling particle stream in ducts, only with gravity, nevertheless preferably the particles are moved or accelerated by different means like pneumatic conveyors or mechanical means like rotating wheels.
The problem for an apparatus with the above mentioned features is solved by a gluing system consisting out of at least three different sections I, II, III in which along the direction of the particle stream the inner diameter of the pipe is increasing in the first section I, the inner diameter is decreasing in the second section II and the inner diameter of the pipe is increasing in the third section III.
The problem is additionally solved for a for gluing and mixing particles with at least a part of an adhesive in the course of producing shaped bodies, especially fiberboards, wherein the particles are pneumatically suspended and transported as a particle stream in a circular pipe with an inner diameter, wherein a gluing system is arranged in at least one part of the pipe to apply adhesive to the particles of the particle stream, wherein said gluing system consists out of a tube with at least one flange and a body centrally arranged within the inner diameter of the tube with a holding structure, said body is arranged with its front at least partially featuring a streamlined contour towards the oncoming particle stream and at least one nozzle delivering adhesive onto the particles of the particle stream, characterized in that in the gluing system the particle stream and/or the particles are at least partially moved radially outwards due to the increasing of the inner diameter of the tube,
that in the following second section II the particle stream and/or particles are at least partially moved radially inwards due to the decreasing of the inner diameter of the tube, that during the decreasing of the inner diameter of the tube adhesive is applied to the particles and/or the particle stream and that in the third section the diameter of the tube is increasing to let the particles and/or the particle stream move at least partially radially outwards thereby enhancing the mixing of the adhesive and the particles in the particle stream.
Preferably the movement of the particles or the particle stream radially outwards is supported by the centrally arranged body, which might be arranged at least partly in the first section of the gluing system and which ends preferably at the end of the first section or in between the two borders of the second section.
Preferably there is a distance between the end of the body and the beginning of the third section or the end of the second section.
The gluing system might be arranged in an existing pipe which is used to transport and/or contain a moving particle stream. Usually the gluing system can be implemented as a retrofit for existing gluing systems, especially by using flanges and/or adapters to fit into.
The gluing system is especially designed for blow-lines with higher pressure than the surroundings and a particle stream moving in a steam containing atmosphere but can also be used in a normal environment or in pneumatic supported conveyors e.g. ducts or pipes.
As the influencing surfaces the diameters in question are used to describe the permeable area in the tube of the gluing system, hence the inner surface of the tube and the outer surface of the body arranged in the tube. The system is mainly arranged in a symmetrical manner to the main or central axis along the
tube. The holding structure for the body itself might or is mainly an exception from this symmetry. The use of radially is usually referencing to the central axis.
The borders or boundaries of the sections can be defined especially by a variation of the arranged changes of the inner diameter of the pipe. For example a border occurs if the inner diameter of the pipe changes from an increasing diameter to a decreasing or stagnant diameter. Stagnant diameters might be helping as calming areas for the particle flow or as transition areas between sections.
The following features are combinable with the main idea of the invention and are able to improve the invention alone or in combination with other features furthermore.
Next to linear changes of the inner diameters along the tube there might be curved arrangements deemed necessary and might help to arrange the transitions or movements of the particle stream more smoothly.
Therefore it is another preferred aspect or explanation that the decreasing or increasing of the inner diameter in the three sections I, II, III is continuously differentiable according to mathematical rules.
In combination or as an alternative approach it might be beneficial to understand the necessary changes of the inner diameter with the help of a sectional view of the outer hull of the pipe respectively the radius of the tube according to its central axis so the inner side of the pipe equates to a continuously differentiable mathematical function within a coordinate system using the central axis as x-axis.
Usually the borders are an exemption from this approach but it might help the gluing system if the borders are usable in the mathematical equations of both sides so there might be no fracture.
In another preferred aspect the body is arranged at least partially in the first section I. Alternatively the body might be arranged throughout the first section. It might be helpful if the body is extending even into the pipe before the gluing section or in other words is extending beyond the gluing system or its flange.
Preferably the body is arranged at least partially in the second section II.
Preferably at least one nozzle is arranged in the first or section of the gluing system, most preferably at the rear and/or the end of body. It might be contributing if the nozzles are arranged on the circumference of the tube as well, preferably in the first or second section.
The at least one nozzle and/or a spray zone might be arranged with a vectorial share along the direction of the particle stream, especially if the nozzle is arranged at the end of the body and shows a circular spray zone. It is especially preferred if the central axis or the symmetry of the circular spray zone is aligning with the central axis of the tube.
In another advantageous possibility the outer body is increasing in the first section I along the direction of the particle stream, at least partially. Preferably the body is streamlined with its front against the oncoming particles or the particle stream.
Additionally or alternatively the outer diameter of the body is decreasing along the direction of the particle stream in the second section II.
It might be helpful if the body features an abrupt end, preferably with a reduction of its diameter from several mm to zero mm along a few mms of the central axis
Alternatively the end of the body might be along an asymptote to a perpendicular line based on the central axis or along a quadrant respectively a hyperbola.
In another aspect it might be beneficial if the shape of the end of the body is formed as a hemicycle respectively as a hemisphere.
Regarding the borders between the sections. It might be helpful if between two sections a transitional section 0 is arranged in such a way that said transitional section 0 features a constant inner diameter of the tube and/or an constant outer diameter of the body.
Such a transitional section might be arranged as well with a curved inner surface or a curved tube without an inflection point along the particle stream for improving the connection of the different inclinations of neighboring sections.
Regarding linear changes of the inner diameter the following parameters are preferred in arranging the gluing system:
- the opening angle oci (alpha-i) of the inner diameter in the first section I is arranged between 1 ° and 5°, preferably between 1.5° and 3.5°, and/or
- the closing angle an (alpha2) of the inner diameter in the second section I is arranged between 1 ° and 10°, preferably between 3° and 7°, and/or
- the opening angle am (alphas) of the inner diameter in the third section III is arranged between 1 ° and 7°, preferably between 1.5° and 5°.
In another or combining aspect it seems proper that the tubes or inner surfaces of the tubes in at least one of the sections I, II, III are comparable to a truncated cone with a circular symmetry around the central axis.
In a preferred embodiment the inner diameter of the tube in the second section II is reduced along a curve or a line with a different gradient or derivative along the central axis.
Regarding the permeable diameter, which is defined by the inner diameter or where it is necessary subtracted by the occupied space of the body or its diameter, the following arrangement deems advantageous:
The smallest permeable area Ai for the particle stream in the second section II is similar or greater than the smallest permeable area A2 in the third section III or in the section 0 between the second section II and the third section III. Regarding the smallest permeable area A1 it has to be understood, that by different alignments of the inner surface of the tube and the outer surface of the body, the smallest permeable area must not defined by lines perpendicular to the central axis of the tube, but perpendicular to the inner surface of the tube and/or the outer surface of the body, see Fig. 3.
Preferably a nozzle with an circular outlet is arranged, wherein the outlet circle is arranged normal to the central axis and that the outlet has a distance to the central axis of the tube
In another aspect the outlet of the nozzle is arranged in such a way that the adhesive is directed radially or along an pointed angle P (beta) to the central axis along the particle stream.
Alternatively or additionally it might be helpful if the adhesive is sprayed in a ring like manner and coaxially to the central axis. Preferably there is steam and/or air added inside of the ring like spraying pattern of the adhesive to push the spraying pattern respectively the adhesive outwards to the particles.
In a further aspect the holding structure might consist out of at least one radially arranged carrier connecting the body with the inner surface of the tube and that at least on supply line in the carrier is connecting fixtures respectively fittings on the body, especially the nozzle with the surroundings of the tube. This might be advantageous to provide safety for the service pipe of the nozzle, as this service pipe might be more secure to the oncoming particle stream, especially in a highly abrasive surrounding, like it happens in a blow line.
Preferably there are at least two carriers arranged circumferential to the body and that the distance between the carriers are preferably equal to each other.
The gluing system or the pipe with the gluing system might be part of or connected with a refiner, preferably with a disc refiner, for producing a particle stream with steam. Usually a refiner is used in a blow-line system and provides the excess pressure of several bars.
Preferably the end of tube connected with the pipe after the gluing system has the same diameter than the diameter of the pipe of the gluing system.
In another advantageous possibility the diameter of the pipe after the gluing system is smaller or the same diameter of the pipe before the gluing system. As smaller diameter might help to minimize the pressure loss due to the gluing system, especially if the particle stream is moved in a pneumatic supported manner or in a blow-line.
Especially but necessarily due to a refiner it might be preferred to connect the gluing system or the pipe with a dryer for the exiting and glued particles.
Preferably the gluing system is part or arranged as a stage of expansion for an apparatus transporting particles or as a substitute for existing inferior gluing systems.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In the following, the invention will be described in more detail by the aid of some preferred embodiments with reference to the attached drawings, wherein:
Fig. 1 presents a sectional view of a first embodiment of the gluing system as part of an existing pipe lengthwise to the flow of the particle stream, Fig. 2 presents a sectional view of a second embodiment,
Fig. 3 presents a sectional view of a third embodiment without a corresponding pipe arrangement.
Fig. 1 presents a sectional view lengthwise to the production direction of an apparatus in which the invention is used as part of a pneumatic conveyor or a blow-line pictured by a pipe 13 at the beginning and first opening of the gluing system 1 and at the end of the gluing system. The pipe 13 on both sides of the gluing system 1 has the same inner diameter 14. The particles are moved or transported in the pipe 13 as particle stream 12 along the central axis 17. The central axis can be arranged vertically, horizontally or angular. A vertical use is common for transporting the particles due to the gravitation, sometimes as known in the state of the art accelerated by different means.
The gluing system 1 can be subdivided in at least three different section, wherein the different sections are defined by different arrangements or the changes of the inner diameter 6. In the first section I, according to the direction of the particle stream 12 the inner diameter 6 is increasing. In the second section II the inner diameter 6 is decreasing and in the third section III the inner diameter 6 is increasing again.
In the first and second section a body is centrally arranged which is streamlined at its front 8 against the oncoming particle stream 13 and shows a nozzle 3 at the end 9 of the body for delivering the adhesive to the particles e.g. the particle stream 12. With A2 the inner diameter at the border between section II and III is shown.
The gluing system 1 is connected with the pipe 13 via flanges 15. The combination of two flanges 15 is shown as flange assembly 16.
In Figure 2 a different second embodiment is shown and the main differences are the arrangement of transition sections 0 (zero), which are mainly composed of stagnant inner diameters 6 of the tube 5. It is preferred but not limited to this embodiment that the holding structure 2 is arranged between the first section I and the second section II in this transitional section 0.
Furthermore a second transitional section is shown between the second and the third section which is as well not limited to this embodiment.
Referring to Figure 1 and 2 and to reflect the changes of the inner surface respectively the inner diameter 6 of the tube 5 of the gluing system 1 a line as a theoretical progression 18 is shown in the lower part of the drawing. In Figure 1 the outer pipes 13 have the same diameter 14. In Figure 2 the diameter 10 of the pipe 13 of the exiting side of the gluing system 1 is smaller than the diameter of the pipe 13 at the incoming (left) side of the pipe 13.
Figure 3 shows a third embodiment of the gluing system, showing mainly only the gluing system 1 itself without the pipes 13 and in view of Figure 2 without the first transitional section 0.
The particle stream enters the gluing system 1 and is moved radially outwards due to the increasing diameter or the opening angle oci of the tube 5. The
movement might be supported in the first section I due to the streamlined body 4. In the second section II the particle stream 12 is moved radially inwards to the central axis and the velocity might be increased due to the reduction of the inner diameter 6 or better the permeable area Ai remaining for the particle stream 12. After the end of body 4 the particle streams comes into contact with the sprayed adhesive 11 and is mixed with it. After the permeable area A2 the tube 5 is opening up again by increasing the inner diameter 6 along the opening angle am of the tube 5. For better understanding of the drawings the closing angle an of the tube 5 is only shown in Figure 2.
The adhesive is delivered to the particle stream 12 with a spraying angle P (beta) regarding to the central axis 1003.
