Description

  • The invention relates to a flat luminaire that has a separated driver box for carrying the driver.
  • In currently known luminaires, and especially in luminaires with high illumination power output heat generation, heat removal and heat dissipation are important aspects to be considered upon designing. Flat and narrow luminaires that are often installed in industrial buildings, such as storage areas, office areas, commercial kitchens and so forth, often have heat problems with the driver of the luminaire being positioned in the surroundings with the respective light source module of the luminaire, that is usually formed by multiple LEDs being mounted on a LED-board. Hereby, components that are heat-sensitive, such as the driver of a respective luminaire, get easily damaged.
  • Thus, the invention is concerned with the task of providing an improved flat luminaire that has an improved heat distribution with regard to heat-sensitive components of the luminaire. This task is solved by the luminaire according to independent claim 1. The invention is defined in the respective independent claim. Additional features of the invention are provided in the respective dependent claims.
  • According to the invention a flat luminaire extending longitudinally along an extension axis is provided. Hereby the luminaire has a rear side and a front side respectively extending longitudinally along the extension axis at opposite sides of the extension axis. The luminaire comprises: a light source; a driver for driving the light source; a flat housing defining a lighting space for housing the light source; a functional box axially extending from an axial face side of the housing; and a driver box for carrying the driver. The housing hereby extends longitudinally along the extension axis, and has a body at the rear side and a light emission section for emitting light of the light source being housed in the housing at the front side. The functional box and the housing together define the rear side and the front side of the luminaire, and the driver box is mounted to the rear side of the luminaire so as to at least partially overlap the functional box with a housing section when seen radially with respect to the extension axis. Furthermore, the driver is housed in the housing section.
  • With the such configured luminaire the components are utmost beneficially arranged, as heat dissipation of the light source is separated from the driver, such that these two heat generating components are locally separated. With the separate driver box being positioned on the rear side of the luminaire, and the light source being housed in the housing of the luminaire, an effective heat separation is achieved. Thus, the heat-sensitive components of the luminaire are apart and thus do not negatively influence the respective other. Hence, heat removal and heat dissipation is improved.
  • Optionally the driver is completely, respectively exclusively, included in the housing section. Hereby in view along an axis perpendicular to the extension axis of the luminaire no overlaps of the driver and the housing of the luminaire is achieved. This further improves decoupling of the thermal impacts of the driver and the light source, respectively the housing that may act as a heat sink of the light source.
  • Optionally, the driver box is mounted to the rear side of the luminaire so as to partially overlap the housing with an extension section when seen radially with respect to the extension axis. With the such configured luminaire, the luminaire and in particular the driver box of the luminaire is implemented utmost variable and flexible, depending on respective desired lighting scenarios and/or requirements. In particular with the such designed extension section, further components can be positioned and/or mounted within the driver box, wherein hereby also components that are less heat-sensitive, and in particular heat-insensitive, or components with relatively small heat generation may be used. In a special example, an emergency driver that is only active in an emergency situation may be positioned in the such configured extension section, as in an emergency situation the light source is usually driven in an emergency mode, where either not all light emitting elements of the light source are active or where only a reduced power is applied. As only a reduced power is applied the emergency driver itself does not generate huge amounts of heat, but only generates a small amount of heat compared with the regular (main) driver, that is then positioned in the housing section. Hence, heat generation is generally lower in such a scenario, so that the emergency driver may be positioned in the extension section of the driver box that overlaps the housing of the luminaire. Hence, various additional components can be deployed within the driver box of the such configured luminaire.
  • Optionally, the driver and/or a device carrier on which the driver is arranged is mounted on an inner surface of a mounting wall of the driver box. This allows for a steady and stiff positioning of the driver, respectively of the device carrier. Further optionally, this mounting wall is opposite a baseplate of the driver box that is in contact with the housing. Hereby a further beneficial decoupling of heat is achieved, as the driver, respectively the device carrier is further distanced from the housing of the luminaire. Here the space between the driver mounted on the mounting wall and the respective opposite baseplate forms an additional isolator in the driver box, to further decouple heat transmission of the two most heat generating components within the luminaire.
  • Optionally the surface of the driver box being in contact with the rear side of the luminaire, in particular preferably the baseplate, thus being in contact with the housing, comprises a projecting structure, such as a projecting edge, that contacts the rear side of the luminaire. Hence, the contact area between the driver box and the housing is minimized. Hereby, heat transmission between the driver box and the housing is further minimized improving heat separation and thus further improving thermal management of the luminaire. Furthermore with this implementation, a further isolating space is achieved by the projecting structure between the remaining surface of the baseplate of the driver box and the rear side of the luminaire. Hence, isolation and thus heat separation is further enhanced.
  • Optionally, the flat luminaire further comprises a bracket for fixing, preferably releasable fixing, the driver box to the housing. The bracket hereby achieves a steady fixture of the driver box, such that an undesired removal is avoided.
  • Optionally, the housing or its body comprises a lateral fixing structure for connecting the bracket, so as to sandwich the driver box between the bracket and the body. With this implementation a fixture of the driver box to the housing without the necessity of screws and corresponding holes is achieved, such that a simple, flexible and possibly easy reversible fixture is given. The lateral fixing structure hereby provides an effective coupling surface for the bracket, such that a toollessly coupling of the bracket and thus also of the driver box on the housing is achievable.
  • Optionally, the driver box comprises form fit structures for receiving part of the bracket so as to provide a form fit at least along the extension axis. Hereby a displacement of the driver box along the extension axis is prevented, and thus the mounting of the driver box onside the housing is further improved, and in particular made more durable and steady. This further allows for a precise and repeatable positioning of the driver box onside the read side of the housing of the luminaire.
  • Optionally, the functional box comprises a blank cover or a functional element, wherein the functional element preferably comprises one of a sensor, a lighting control device, a battery, a wireless control module, or any combination thereof. With such an implementation the functional box may be placeholder if no additional components are desired for the respective luminaire, such that the functional box is simply formed by its case; and alternatively the functional box may add respective desired functionalities to the luminaire, as additional components, such as one or more sensors, one or more energy storages (such as a battery or accumulator for energy buffering, or for emergency energy supply, or the like), and/or one or more control and/or communication devices may be implemented therein.
  • Optionally, the housing and the functional box have the same or identical cross-sectional contour when viewed in a cross section perpendicular to the extension axis. Hereby, the outer dimensions of the functional box may be (slightly) larger than the housing, but still have a same cross-sectional contour. Also implementations are conceivable where the cross-sectional contours (and thus the respective outer dimensions) of the functional box and the housing are identical. With this implementation, the functional box and the housing are configured matching, such that the outer appearance of the luminaire is further improved. Furthermore, it is also conceivable that the aforementioned projecting structure may compensate the differences of the contours of the housing and the functional box, such that the driver box is essentially mounted level on the rear surface of the housing and the rear surface of the functional box, i.e., on the read side of the luminaire.
  • Optionally, the body is a profile body, and/or wherein the body extends longitudinally along the extension axis. The such configured body allows for a repeatable, durable and high quality implementation. In particular, the body being a profile body may be an extruded profile body, and in particular an aluminium profile body, i.e., an extruded aluminium profile. With the body being an aluminium profile body the heat sink characteristics of the body are further improved.
  • Optionally, the light emission section is a front cover, and/or wherein the light emission section extends longitudinally along the extension axis. With the light emission section being a cover the housing is preferably closed off in light emission direction of the luminaire. Hereby the cover forms a protection against dust, water and humidity from the bottom side / front side of the luminaire. In particular different implementations of the light emission section as a cover are conceivable, wherein special implementations for achieving a ball proof, a wet room proof (in particular a swimming pool proof) luminaire are possible.
  • Optionally, the body and the light emission section each comprise a corresponding connection structure, preferably a longitudinal connection profile structure, for relatively fixing the body and the light emission section to each other. With this implementation the closure of the housing is further facilitated, and furthermore the connection between these components is further eased. Preferably the connection established via the corresponding connection structures is performed by a form fit connection, and hereby preferably via a latching connection and in particular a snap-in connection. Furthermore, it is conceivable that the light emission section may comprise multiple components, such as a planar cover plate and respective profile elements, that fixate the planar cover plate to the housing. In particular these profile elements then may form the connection structure of the light emission section. In general, it is further conceivable that the corresponding connection structures of the housing and the light emission section are configured for fixation of the light emission section, respectively the cover, at the housing to interact with a respective positioned gasket of the luminaire, such that a sealing of the inner space of the housing, i.e., the lighting space of the housing, is achieved. The gaskets of the housing may hereby be positioned at side walls of the body that laterally enclose the lighting space of the housing.
  • Optionally, the functional box comprises an opening at the rear side, and wherein the driver box comprises:
    • an other opening being aligned with the opening, and/or
    • a plug element extending form the driver box through the opening of the functional box, when the driver box is mounted to the rear side of the luminaire.
  • With the such configured functional box and driver box an utmost easy connection between the driver box and the functional box is performed. Hereby the other opening respectively the plug element can easily realize an electrical (and further also a mechanical) coupling between these components. Alternatively to the plug element a wire-harness may reach through the openings for an electrical connection of the driver box and the other components of the luminaire. Hereby it is conceivable that a connection between electrical components of the functional box is established. Furthermore preferably, a respective electrical connection also exists between the functional box and the light source, or its light source board, inside the housing, wherein this may be realized via wires fed through a lateral through hole of the functional box towards the lighting space inside the housing. In an implementation of the driver box having a plug element, and the functional box having a corresponding plug element placed in or formed by the opening at its rear side, an utmost easy and durable electrical (and potentially mechanical) connection between the two boxes is achieved. Here the electrical connection between the light source and the driver for driving the light source is established via the respective opening(s), plug(s), and through hole(s) of the components, such that the electrical connection runs internally and is thus utmost protected and secured, and furthermore provides an integral and aesthetic look of the luminaire.
  • Optionally, the light source comprises an LED light source, preferably an LED module. With this configuration a high light intensity illumination can be performed, with relatively low energy consumption. Furthermore, the required space of such light source is also minimal. Preferably these light source may comprise a respective light source board, such as a LED board, and thereon positioned light emitting elements. Hereby the LED board may form an LED module, or one or more LED modules comprising the LED light source may be positioned onside such a LED board.
  • Optionally, the light source extends longitudinally along the extension axis, preferably along the whole housing. This allows for a further preferred efficient usage of the available space, and thus results in a further increased flexibility in terms of lighting scenarios.
  • Optionally, the flat luminaire further comprises a clip element for attaching the light source to the body, wherein the clip element is a separate element or is made integral to the housing and/or integral to the body. Hereby a further connection within the luminaire is provided without the need for drilled holes and corresponding screws, such that a further toollessly coupling is achieved. The such implemented coupling is utmost durable and holds the light source and potentially also further optical elements (such as reflectors, light diffusion plates and the like) at a fixed position within the housing.
  • Optionally, the driver box is made of plastic material. This further increases thermal decoupling from the housing of the luminaire and further provides a weight reduction and cost reduction of the driver box.
  • Optionally, the body is made of a metal material, in particular made of aluminium. With this implementation the heat conduction and heat dissipation characteristics of the housing, are particular further improved. Hereby, the body may further prefer act as a heat sink of the light source.
  • Optionally, the light emission section is made of plastic material, in particular made of polycarbonate, PC, or glass, or the like. Depending on a respective desired illumination scenario the light emission section can be accordingly selected. Hereby for aggressive circumstances, e.g., in a swimming pool area with high humidity, high temperatures, chlorine and the like, the light emission section preferably is made out of glass. In scenarios where impacts of other objects are to be expected, e.g., in an illumination scenario of a sports place (such as a tennis court, squash court, volleyball court, and the like), the light emission section may be further fixed to the housing via an additional safety clip that prevents dislocation of the light emission section upon collision with other objects.
  • Optionally, the axial face side of the housing being opposite along the extension axis to the axial face side that is coupled with the functional box, is enclosed by an endcap, wherein the endcap is mounted on the body. Hereby the housing of the luminaire is closed off on the two end faces of the housing, on the one side via the functional box and on the other side via the endcap. Hence, with this implementation the housing is further improved with regard to its sealing. The endcap may be coupled with the housing via screws. The endcap may be formed by a plastic material, and in particular by polyamide. Further optionally an endcap gasket may be provided between the endcap and the housing. Hereby the sealing is further improved.
  • Optionally an endcap gasket may be provided between the housing and the functional box. Hereby the connection between the functional box and the housing, respectively and the body, is further sealed, such that intrusion of dust, humidity, water and the like is prevented. Hereby the gasket may have at least one through hole that allows for feed-through, e.g., of wires from the functional box to the lighting space and especially to the light source, and vice versa. The gasket further improves sealing of the luminaire.
  • Optionally, the flat luminaire comprises two of the functional boxes, wherein the functional boxes axially extend from opposite of the axial face sides of the housing, wherein the functional boxes and the housing together define the rear side and the front side of the luminaire, and wherein the flat luminaire comprises two of the driver boxes, wherein the driver boxes are each mounted to the rear side of the luminaire so each of the driver boxes at least partially overlaps, with its housing section, with another one of the functional boxes when seen radially with respect to the extension axis. Hereby utmost preferred aesthetics of the luminaire are provided, with the luminaire being essentially symmetrical along its extension axis. Also with the two functional boxes different additional components may be integrated in the luminaire, respectively in the functional box. Preferably the driver is housed in the housing section of one of the driver boxes, and further preferably in each housing section of the driver boxes a respective driver is housed. Thus, depending on the power requirements of the luminaire (and further depending of the length of the luminaire), the luminaire may be provided with multiple, and in particular with two, drivers, that supply a respectively required electrical energy to the light source.
  • In general materials used for gaskets discussed in the disclosure may be cellular rubber; foam rubber; polyethylene; silicone; ethylene propylene diene rubber, EPDM; and or polytetrafluoroethylene, PTFE. With these materials different requirements concerning respective illumination situations can be met. Thus, sealing of the luminaire is further improved. In particular the housing may be sealed satisfying a certain IP class, such as, e.g., IP4x, IP5x, IP6x, IPx4, IPx5, IPx6, IPx7, IPx8 (with x being a placeholder), and in particular IP 44, IP45, IP 66, IP 67, IP 68 or the like.

  • Figures 1 to 4 show different views of a same exemplary embodiment of a flat luminaire 1. Hereby the flat luminaire 1 comprises a housing 2100, and one functional box 3000 that is coupled to the housing 2100 via a side face of the housing 2100. Furthermore, the luminaire 1 comprises a driver box 1000, that is mounted on the rear side R of the luminaire 1, hence on the rear side R of the housing 2100 and the rear side R of the respective functional box 3000. The composition of the luminaire 1, its housing 2100, its driver box 1000 and its functional box 3000 are exemplary displayed in more detail in the exploded view of Figure 5. Figure 8 exemplary shows the bottom surface of an embodiment of the driver box 1000 and the upper surface of an embodiment of the housing 2100 and the functional box 3000 and their coupling. The driver box 1000 is hereby equipped with a driver 1220. The arrangement inside the driver box 1000 is exemplary shown in more detail in Figures 6 and 7. Inside the housing 2100 a light source 2210 is present, that is positioned within a lighting space 2120 of the housing. The arrangement inside the housing 2100 is exemplary shown in more detail in Figures 10A, 10B and 10C that further illustrate different coupling options for coupling the light emission section 2102 with the body 2101. The housing 2100 with its electrical components and structural configurations forms the luminaire unit 2000 of the luminaire 1. Figure 9 illustrates an exemplary embodiment of the luminaire 1 being longer than the exemplary embodiment known from Figures 1 to 4, 5 and 8, and having multiple functional boxes 3000 and driver boxes 1000 attached to the single luminaire unit 200, respectively its housing 2100.
  • As exemplary shown in Figures 1 to 5 the flat luminaire 1 extends longitudinally along the extension axis L. The luminaire 1 has a rear side R and a front side F respectively extending longitudinally along the extension axis L at opposite sides of the extension axis L. Inside the driver box 1000 a driver 1220 for driving the light source 2210 of the luminaire 1 is positioned. The flat housing 2100 hereby defines a lighting space 2120 for housing the light source 2210, wherein the housing 2100 extends longitudinally along the extension axis L, and wherein the housing 2100 has a body 2101 at the rear side R and a light emission section 2102 for emitting light of the light source 2210 being housed in the housing 2100 at the front side F. The light emission section 2102 is hereby essentially plate-shaped formed, having a main area 2102x that is plate-shaped, and that covers the opening of the body 2101 on the front side F, and thus closes off the housing 2100 at the front side F.
  • The light source 2210 may comprises an LED light source 2210, preferably an LED module. Furthermore, as shown in the Figures the light source 2210 may also extend longitudinally along the extension axis L, and in particular along the whole housing 2100.
  • The housing 2100 per se hereby has a flat design, such that respective of individual business branches requirements (in particular requirements within the food industry) are fulfilled.
  • In view of Figures 5, 10A, 10B and 10C the therein shown exemplary embodiment of the inside of the luminaire unit 2000 shall be described. Hereby it becomes apparent that the housing 2100, respectively its body 2101, forms the base structure of the luminaire unit 2000. Hereby the body 2101 comprises a mounting surface 2105 for positioning the light source 2210. The light source 2210 hereby may comprise the light source board and a plurality of light emitting elements 2211. This mounting surface 2105 further acts as a heat transmission element that directs heat from the heat generating light source 2210 away. With the body 2101 being formed from metal, and in particular aluminium, an utmost efficient heat sink is formed. Onside the light source 2210 lens elements 2220 or reflector elements 2220 may be positioned to influence and individualize light emission characteristics of the luminaire 1. Moreover, these lens and/or reflector elements 2220 may be positioned onside a translucent plate 2230. This translucent plate 2230 may further be configured opaque or transparent, depending on a respective desired light emission characteristic of the luminaire 1. It is also conceivable that the translucent plate 2230 is equipped with optical elements to further influence light emission characteristics of the luminaire 1.
  • The light source 2110 hereby emits light in a light emission direction towards the front side F of the housing 2100. The other components, such as lens/reflector elements 2220, and/or translucent plate 2230, and of course the light emission section 2102, respectively its plate-shaped main area 2102x are arranged subsequent to the light source 2110 in light emission direction. The light emission direction hereby is essentially perpendicular to the extension axis L. Furthermore, the light emission section 2102 may be a front cover 2102, and further may extends longitudinally along the extension axis L. The light emission section 2102 respectively the front cover 2102 hereby provide protection of the lighting space 2120 of the luminaire unit 2000, and thus provide protection of the optical unit 2200 and its components.
  • As exemplary shown in Figures 10A to 10C the luminaire 1 further comprises a clip element 2240 that fixedly holds the optical unit 2200, consisting of light source 2210, lens/reflector elements 2220, and/or translucent plate 2230 together and mounts the optical unit 2200 on the body 2101, and in particular on the mounting surface 2105. Hereby the mounting surface 2105 may comprise respective holding structures 2106 that may interact with the respective clip element 2240, and thus allow for the clamping of the optical unit 2200 on the body 2101. The clip elements 2240 are hereby snapped-on the body 2101 on the one side and hereby clamp the optical unit 2200 towards the body 2101. Hence, the clip element(s) 2240 ensure a correct positioning of the optical unit 2200, and in particular of the lens/reflector elements 2220 towards the light source 2210.
  • The clip element 2240 for attaching the light source 2210 to the body 2101 may thus be a separate element or may also be made integral to the housing 2100 and/or integral to the body 2101. In particular the clip element 2240 may hereby be formed as an extension of the holding structures 2106. If the clip element 2240 is realized as an extra component it is preferably formed by a plastic material, in particular made out of polycarbonate, PC.
  • The functional box 3000 hereby axially extends from an axial face side of the housing 2100, wherein the functional box 3000 and the housing 2100 together define the rear side R and the front side F of the luminaire 1. The functional box 3000 is thus positioned at a face side of the housing 2100, respectively of the body 2101 of the luminaire 1. The respective opposite side of the body 2101 is hereby equipped with an endcap 5000 that closes off the housing 2100 from the side. The endcap 5000 may be made out of polyamide.
  • Hereby, the endcap 5000 may be mounted to the housing 2100, respectively to the body 2101, via fixation means 2300, such as screws or the like, that interact with respective receiving holes 5010 of the endcap 5000. The functional box 3000 may also be coupled to the body 2101 via such fixation means 2300, whereas here the functional box 3000 may comprise respective through holes for receiving the fixation means 2300. In-between the functional box 3000 and the housing 2100, respectively the body 2101, as well as in-between the endcap 5000 and the housing 2100, respectively the body 2101, a gasket 4000 may be positioned. The gasket 4000 hereby seals of the respective side face openings of the housing 2100. With fixation of the respective elements (the endcap 5000, respectively the functional box 3000), the respective gaskets 4000 are clamped, sealing off the housing 2100.
  • The body 2101 hereby may comprise respective receiving structures 2109 for receiving the fixation means 2300 to allow for a steady and stiff connection of the functional box 3000 as well as the endcap 5000. With these receiving structures 2109 also implementations where functional boxes 3000 are present on both ends of the housing 2100 are possible.
  • As shown in the cross-sectional view of Figures 10A, 10B and 10C the body 2101 is a profile element that may be formed by extrusion. Hence the body 2101 may be a profile body, and may further extend longitudinally along the extension axis L. Hereby the body 2101 comprises respective structure segments that allow for a clamped coupling of other components of the luminaire 1. In particular the body 2101 comprises structured side walls 2104 running parallel to the extension axis L, as shown in the Figures. These side walls 2104 protrude from the base of the body 2101 that forms the read side R of the luminaire, towards the front side F.
  • Hereby, the aforementioned receiving structures 2109 may be part of the respective side walls 2104. The side walls 2104 further comprise on a bottom side of the side walls 2104, i.e., a side of the respective side wall 2104 that faces the front side F, a connection structure 2107 for connecting with the light emission section 2102. The light emission section 2102 hereby also has a respective connection structure 2103, wherein these corresponding connection structures 2103, 2107 are configured for relatively fixing the body 2101 and the light emission section 2102 to each other. These connection structures 2103 of the light emission section 2102 may be positioned laterally parallel to the extension axis L of the luminaire 1.
  • Furthermore the body 2101, and in particular its side walls 2104, may further comprise a gasket receiving structure 2108 for receiving an elongated gasket 2400 that seals the inside of the housing 2100 by interaction with the light emission section 2102. The material of the gasket 2400 may hereby be one of the previously mentioned materials.
  • Hereby it may be desired that the coupling between the two connection structures 2103, 2107 is a latching (and in particular a snap-in) coupling. Furthermore, the connection structure 2103 of the light emission section 2102 is such formed, that it holds the plate-shaped main area 2102x of the light emission section 2102 (respectively of the cover 2102) in an inward facing manner, such that the connection structures 2103 of the light emission section 2102 are positioned subsequent to the plate-shaped main area 2102x of the light emission section 2102 in the light emission direction. Hereby in general the connection structure(s) 2103 of the light emission section 2102 position the plate-shaped main area 2102x of the light emission section 2102 to interact with the elongated gasket 2400. Hereby the plate-shaped main area 2102x itself may comprise bulges at its lateral areas that further increase a contact area and thus tension towards a respective gasket 2400, as shown in Figures 10A and 10B.
  • The Figures 10A to 10C show different implementations with regard to the light emission section 2102 and thus with regard to its connection structures 2103. Figure 10A hereby shows a configuration of an integral formed light emission section 2102 (respectively translucent cover 2102). Hereby the connection structures 2103 are laterally positioned and are an integral part that is coupled to the respective plate-shaped main area 2102x of the light emission section 2102. In this implementation the light emission section 2102 may preferably be formed by a plastic material, such as polycarbonate, PC. Also shown herein the plate-shaped main area 2102x comprises bulges at its lateral areas facing the interior of the housing 2100, such that upon coupling of the light emission section 2102 with the body 2101 the sealing between the light emission section 2102 and the gasket 2400 is improved by an increased tension between the gasket 2400 and the bulge, i.e., and the light emission section 2102. Hence, with the such contoured shape of the light emission section 2102 sealing of the luminaire 1 from the front side F, mounting of the light emission section 2102 to the body 2101 and protection of the optical unit 2200 is achieved with the integral light emission section 2102.
  • Figure 10B shows a further implementation that is based on the implementation shown in Figure 10A. Hereby an additional safety clip 2500 is provided, that engages with the outer contours of the connection structures 2103 of the light emission section 2102. Hereby the safety clip 2500 increases stiffness and durability of the connection between the two connection structures 2103, 2107 of the light emission section 2102 and the body 2101.
  • Figure 10C shows an other embodiment of the light emission section 2102. Hereby the light emission section 2102 consists of separate components. In particular the light emission section 2102 hereby comprises the plate-shaped main area portion 2102x, and the lateral connection structures 2103. The lateral connection structures 2103 hereby hold the plate-shaped main area portion 2102x in place in push the plate-shaped main area portion 2102x towards the interior of the housing 2100, and thus towards the gasket 2400. The lateral connection structures 2103 further prevent a lateral movement of the plate-shaped main area portion 2102x such that the plate-shaped main area portion 2102x is fixedly hold. In this implementation the plate-shaped main area portion 2102x of the light emission section 2102 is preferably made out of glass. The lateral connection structures 2103 however are preferably made out of polycarbonate, PC. The such configured implementation is in particular durable for scenarios with an aggressive environment, such as, e.g., swimming pool areas, or the like. Hence, with the such configured light emission section 2102 sealing of the luminaire 1 from the front side F, mounting of the light emission section 2102 to the body 2101 and protection of the optical unit 2200 is achieved.
  • Independent on the respective implementation of the light emission section 2102, each of the light emission sections 2102 shown in Figures 10A to 10C fit the same housing 2100, such that a flexible configuration of the respective luminaire 1 is possible.
  • As shown in Figures 10A to 10C the sealing performed by the elongated gasket 2400 interacting with the light emission section 2102 (respectively its main plate-shaped area 2102x) is positioned in an internal space of the housing 2100, as the coupling between the two connection structures 2103, 2107 already forms a first sealing barrier at the outside of the housing 2100. Hence with the two barriers - the outer barrier formed by the coupling of the connection structures 2103, 2107; and the inner barrier formed by the sealing between the gasket 2400 and the light emission section 2102 (respectively the cover 2102, and in particular its plate-shaped main area 2102x) - multiple instances for sealing of the interior of the housing 2100 are realized, resulting in an utmost favourable ingress protection. These two barriers hereby may further form an antechamber in-between, that further protects from ingress of dust, humidity, water and other objects into the lighting space 2120.
  • The housing 2100, and in particular its body 2101, respectively the side walls 2104, may each further comprise a lateral fixing structure 2111. This lateral fixing structure 2111 may hereby be formed by a recess that runs parallel to the extension axis L and allows for a clasping of a bracket 2170 that may be used for coupling of the driver box 1000 with the housing 2100, as further shown in Figures 1 to 9. In particular, the bracket 2170 may be configured for fixing, preferably releasable fixing, the driver box 1000 to the housing 2100. With the lateral fixing structure(s) 2111 connect and interact with the bracket 2170, so as to sandwich the driver box 1000 between the bracket 2170 and the body 2101, as particularly illustrated in Figures 1 to 4.
  • In particular the driver box 1000 is mounted to the rear side R of the luminaire 1 so as to at least partially overlap the functional box 3000 with a housing section 1301 when seen radially with respect to the extension axis L, and wherein the driver 1220 is housed in the housing section 1301. This is specifically shown in Figures 5 to 7.
  • The driver box 1000 may be cuboidal. Moreover, the driver box 1000 may comprise a case 1100 that has two case components 1101, 1102. The case 1100 may be formed by a bottom case part 1102 and a top case part 1101, wherein the bottom case part 1102 may essentially be a baseplate 1104. The top case part 1101 may be box-shaped, thus spanning an interior, i.e., a receiving space 1300 of the driver box 1000. The receiving space 1300 hereby is configured for receiving electrical driver components 1200 of the driver box 1000.
  • The area of the top case part 1101 that is arranged opposite to the baseplate 1104 is called a mounting wall 1103, as it may be used for coupling with the driver 1220 and/or with a device carrier 1210 on which the driver 1220 is arranged. The components of the driver box 1000 case 1100 may be attached to each other via coupling elements 1180, 1181 that may be formed by respective screw holes elements 1180 present at the top and the bottom case part 1101, 1102 and by respective screws 1181. Of course other coupling mechanism are also conceivable.
  • Moreover, it is conceivable that in-between the bottom case part 1102 and the top case part 1101 a gasket and/or other sealing structures are present. Moreover at a side wall of the top case part 1101 that is arranged between the mounting wall 1103 and the baseplate 1104 of the driver box 1000, an electrical connection component 1190 may be present. This electrical connection component 1190 allows for coupling of the driver box 1000 with external wires for supply of electrical energy (such as a mains connection) and/or for commands and communication supply. The electrical connection component 1190 may be realized via an electrical plug connector, via a through hole that allows for intake of the respective external wires, or the like.
  • Furthermore, on the outside of the driver box 1000, respectively on the outside of the case 1100 of the driver box 1000 form fit structures 1170 for receiving part of the aforementioned bracket 2170 are present, so as to provide a form fit at least along the extension axis L of the driver box 1000 towards the body 2101 of the luminaire 1.
  • Hereby the form fit structures 1170 may be present on the outside surface of the top case part 1101 as well as on the bottom case part 1102. It is further conceivable that a form fit structures 1170 and a respective screw holes elements 1180 may be formed contiguous, as also shown in the Figures 1 to 8.
  • The aforementioned bracket 2170 for coupling the housing 2100 with the driver box 1000 may further comprise a hole 2172, and the form fit structures 1170 may likewise have a (screw) hole 1171, such that a coupling element 2173, such as a screw 2173, may be used for further fixation of the bracket to the driver box 1000. Preferably the screw hole 1171 of the form fit structures 1170 are arranged on the top case part 1101 of the driver box.
  • The device carrier 1210 may be a carrier board, and/or a circuit board. Also arranged on the device carrier 1210 or on the mounting wall 1103 may be a further electrical component 1290, wherein preferably this further electrical component 1290 generates less heat compared to the driver 1220, and/or is more heat-resistant. The further electrical component 1290 may exemplary be a controller, an emergency driver, or an other electrical component.
  • Furthermore exemplary shown in Figures 6 and 7 is that the receiving space 1300 of the driver box 1000 for receiving components of the luminaire 1 may be portioned into the aforementioned housing section 1301 and further into an extension section 1302. In particular the shown driver box 1000 is hereby mounted to the rear side R of the luminaire 1 so as to partially overlap the housing 2100 with an extension section 1302 when seen radially with respect to the extension axis L. Hereby, the driver 1220 and/or a device carrier 1210 on which the driver 1220 is arranged may be mounted on an inner surface of the mounting wall 1103 of the driver box 1000, whereas this mounting wall 1103 is opposite to the baseplate 1104, that is a wall of the driver box 1000 that is in contact with the housing 2100. Hereby, a certain space is present in-between the baseplate 1104 and the driver 1220, respectively the further electrical component 1290, such that this empty space forms a further thermal isolation barrier, and thus further improves separation of the heat generation, transmission and dissipation of the light source 2210 and the housing 2100 as its heat-sink, and the driver 1220 arranged in the driver box 1000.
  • In particular the aforementioned form fit structures 1170 may be arranged approximately at an edge of the separation plane between housing section 1301 and extension section 1302, wherein preferably the form fit structures 1170 are arranged at the extension section 1302 to allow for a more stable and stiff connection with the housing 2100.
  • Also shown therein is the exemplary embodiment of the bottom case part 1102, respectively the baseplate 1104, having a protruding/projecting structure 1105 that faces the rear side R of the housing 2100. In particular this protruding/ structure 1105 may be present at the outside of the baseplate 1104 in the extension section 1302 of the driver box 1000. The projecting structure 1105 hence forms the contact area of the driver box 1000 with the housing 21000, and may in particular be formed as a projecting edge 1105. Hence, this projecting structure 1105 minimizes the contact area in-between the housing 2100 and the driver box 1000, such that thermal separation is further improved. Moreover the projecting structure 1105 generates a certain distance between the bottom surface of the baseplate 1104 and the rear side R surface of the housing 2100, respectively of the body 2101, such that the area in-between is filled with air forming a further insulation.
  • Depending on the implementation of the functional box 3000 the projection structure 1105 may also be present in the housing section 1310 of the driver box 1000 (e.g. when the rear sides R of the body 2101 and the functional box 3000 are in an identical plane, i.e., when the housing 2100 and the functional box 3000 have the identical cross-sectional contour when viewed in a cross section perpendicular to the extension axis L. However, in the exemplary embodiments shown in the Figures (in particular visible in Figures 1, 3 and 8) the housing 2100 and the functional box 3000 just have the same cross-sectional contour when viewed in a cross section perpendicular to the extension axis L, such that a minimal height difference of the back surfaces at the rear sides R is present. Hence, the projection structure 1105 hereby also form a correction of the respective different contours.
  • The functional box 3000 may comprise a casing 3100 having two components a base casing 3102 and a cover casing 3101, as in particular exemplary illustrated in Figures 1 to 5 and 8. The functional box 3000, respectively its casing 3100, may hereby be a blank cover, with no additional features or components, other than passing through a respective electrical connection between the driver box 1000 and the luminaire unit 2000. In the exemplary embodiments shown in the respective Figures the functional box 3000 comprises a functional element 3200 that is mounted inside the cover casing 3100. Hereby the functional element 3200 may comprise a sensor, a lighting control device, a battery, and/or a wireless control module, or any combination thereof.
  • As shown in particular in Figures 5 and 8 the upper surface of the functional box 3000, i.e., the rear side R of the functional box 3000, respectively of its casing 3100, i.e., the cover casing 3101, comprises an opening 3110, whereby the opening 3110 may form a plug connector 3111 for electrically connecting to the driver box 1000. Hereby, signals and/or electrical energy may be transmitted from the driver box 1000 towards the functional box 3000, respectively its functional element(s) 3200, and vice versa. Also signals and/or electrical energy from the driver box 1000 can be passed through the functional box 3000 towards the luminaire unit 2000, and vice versa.
  • As also shown in the respective Figures, the bottom side of the driver box 1000, respectively the bottom side of the bottom case part 1102, respectively the baseplate 1104 further comprises an electrical connector 1230, with a connecting plug element 1231. Hereby the electrical connector 1230 is connected to the driver 1220 and/or the device carrier 1210, respectively the thereon arranged further components 1290, and hence may be arranged at the mounting wall 1103 and/or the device carrier 1210 itself, and reaches therefrom to the baseplate 1104.
  • Hereby, the plug element 1231 may extend form the driver box 1000 through the opening 3110 of the functional box 3000, when the driver box 1000 is mounted to the rear side R of the luminaire 1, and may interact with the corresponding plug connector 3111 of the functional box. Hence, with the opening 3110 of the functional box 3000, respectively the plug connector 3111, and the plug element 1231 of the driver box 1000 an easy, stable and reversible connection of the functional box 3000 and the driver box 1000 is achieved. Hereby the plug connector 3111 and the plug element 1231 may interact with each other upon mounting of the driver box 1000 on the rear side R of the luminaire 1.
  • Alternatively to the electrical connector 1230 and its plug elements 1231 also an other opening may be present, that allows for feeding through of electrical wires from the driver box 1000 to the functional box 3000 and or the luminaire unit 2000.
  • As shown in particular in Figures 7 and 8 in the vicinity of the opening 3110 at the cover casing 3101 and the electrical connector 1230 at the baseplate 1104 respective complementing sealing elements 3112, 1232 may be present. Hereby a respective sealing protrusion 1232 of the driver box 1000 may engage with a respective sealing recess 3112 of the functional box 3000, or vice versa. With this configuration the openings respectively the connection is sealed.
  • In-between the functional box 3000 and the luminaire unit 2000 a respective conduct for passing through electrical wires from the functional box 3000 (respectively potentially originally from the driver box 1000) into the housing 2100 may be provided, such that the electrical components of the luminaire 1, can be easily connected.
  • As further shown in the Figures the aforementioned bracket 2170 may be provided to hold the driver box 1000 in place relatively to the luminaire unit 2000 and to the functional box 3000. This coupling may be further improved by the additional form fit structures 1170, and in particular by respective coupling elements 2173, such as screws 2173, that couple the bracket 2170 to the driver box 1000, and thus fasten the coupling between the components of the luminaire 1. The additional coupling elements 2173 hereby further prevent lift of the driver box 1000 from the rear side R of the luminaire 1, and thus also fixate the coupling between the bracket 2170 with the lateral fixing structure(s) 2111 of the housing 2100. Hereby the bracket 2170 comprises hook elements 2174 at its end portions that interact with the respective lateral fixing structure 2111 of the body 2101. In particular the hook elements 2173 engage with the recess that forms the respective lateral fixing structure 2111 such that the bracket 2170 is clamped on the housing 2100. This engagement is in particular visible in Figures 10A, 10B and 10C.
  • For an eased mounting of the luminaire 1, a further bracket 2170 may be provided at the housing 2100. As shown in Figures 1 to 5, 8 and 9 the second bracket 2170 is equally mounted on the body 2101 of the housing 2100. Hereby, the second bracket 2170 may be mounted in an area of the body 2101 where the driver box 1000 is not present, such that a coupling thereto is not possible for an increased fixation. Hence, to realize an improved fixation of this bracket 2170 a suspension bracket fixation element 2180 is provided. The fixation element 2180 is hereby positioned on the rear side R of the body 2101, and is further equipped with respective hole 2182. Hereby a respective coupling element 2173 may engage with the respective hole 2182 of the fixation element 2180 after passing through the respective hole 2172 of the bracket 2170, such that the bracket 2170 is fixedly mounted on the housing 2100. Additionally or alternatively, the fixation element 2180 may further comprise a form fit structure 1181 for receiving part of the aforementioned bracket 2170, so as to provide a form fit along the extension axis L towards the body 2101 of the luminaire 1. Hence, the fixation element 2180 prevents the bracket 2170 from getting disconnected unintentionally from the housing 2100. The fixation element 2180 may be made out of plastic, and in particular may be made out of polyamide.
  • As further shown in Figures 1, 5 and 8 the bracket 2170 may further comprise mounting elements 2171 for mounting of the luminaire 1. Hereby, the mounting elements 2171 may be configured for a direct mounting of the luminaire 1 on a wall, a ceiling or the like. Furthermore, it is conceivable that the luminaire 1 is a pendant luminaire, such that wires, ropes, cords or the like are attached to the mounting elements 2171 for a respective mounting of the luminaire 1.
  • As apparent from the exemplary implementations shown in the Figures, the outer surfaces of the housing 2100 ideally do not comprise any through holes or drill holes, such that undesired intrusion of humidity, water, dust or other objects is prevented. Solely in the special implementation of a safety clip 2500, as exemplary illustrated in Figure 10B, a fixture hole for inserting the respective coupling element 2501 and thus fixedly coupling the safety clip 2500 to the body 2101, is provided at an outer surface of the housing 2100. However, hereby the respective hole does not reach into the inner space area of the housing 2100, respectively into the lighting space 2120 of the luminaire 1. Alternatively to this implementation of the fixation of the safety clip 2500, also an other configuration is conceivable where the additional safety clip 2500 is formed as a safety bracket that reaches from one side of the body 2101 to the respective other side along the rear side R of the body 2101, such that the safety bracket is fixedly coupled to the housing 2100 via clamping. Hereby the light emission section 2102 (respectively the cover 2102) and its connection structure 2103 is fixedly held in place via the safety bracket, respectively the safety clip 2500. The safety clip 2500 may be made out of polycarbonate, PC.
  • The driver box 1000 may be made of plastic material, further increasing thermal separation. In particular the driver box 1000 may be made out of polyamide. In between the two case components 1101, 1102 of the driver box 1000 a sealing may be present. The driver box 1000 is hereby easily removable from the luminaire 1 and thus can be easily replaced, such that changing requirements with regard to the power supply or the like can be satisfied by connecting a respective configured driver box 1000. Hence, flexibility of operation of the luminaire 1 is further improved with this configuration.
  • The functional box 3000 may be out of a plastic material, and in particular made out of polyamide. The casing 3100 of the functional box 3000, i.e., the two casing parts 3101, 3102 may be produced by injection molding. The functional box 3000 provides sufficient volume to allow a respective mounting of the respective desired devices, respectively functional elements 3200.
  • The bracket 2170 may be out of metal, and may be formed out of a sheet metal. The bracket(s) 2170 may thus be formed by bending of the sheet metal. As aluminium and steel shall not get in direct contact with each other, powder coating of one, multiple or all respective components may be desired.
  • In general the aforementioned elements being formed from metal may also be powder coated. Hereby individualisation of the luminaire 1 is achieved and furthermore an additional isolating barrier, both electrically and thermally is realized. The powder coating may hereby be done with a respective desired colour.
  • In an other special embodiment it is further conceivable that the driver box 1000 is separated from the rest of the luminaire 1 and hereby connected thereto via a wire, so that the driver box 1000 may be used as a remote box.
  • As shown in the exemplary embodiment of Figure 9 it is further conceivable that the luminaire 1 comprises two driver boxes 1000, and two functional boxes 3000.
  • Here, the flat luminaire 1 comprises two of the functional boxes 3000, wherein the functional boxes 3000 axially extend from opposite of the axial face sides of the housing 2100, wherein the functional boxes 3000 and the housing 2100 together define the rear side R and the front side F of the luminaire 1; and wherein the flat luminaire 1 comprises two of the driver boxes 1000, wherein the driver boxes 1000 are each mounted to the rear side R of the luminaire 1 so each of the driver boxes 1000 at least partially overlaps, with its housing section 1301, with another one of the functional boxes 3000 when seen radially with respect to the extension axis L. Hence, on each front face of the luminaire 1 along the extension axis L one driver box 1000 and one functional box 3000 is present, as previously described with regard to the embodiments of Figures 1 to 8. This implementation may be desired in scenarios where the luminaire 1 has to be very long. Hereby, different implementations are conceivable, wherein preferably the driver 1220 is housed in the housing section 1301 of one of the driver boxes 1000. In a scenario with two drivers 1220 the drivers 1220 are likewise preferably arranged in the respective housing sections 1301. In such a scenario, the light source 2210 of the luminaire 1 may be supplied with power of two drivers 1220, such that the load for each driver 1220 is minimized, resulting in less heat generation per driver 1220. Furthermore, with this implementation the functional boxes 3000 can be differently (or equally) equipped to fulfil respective situational requirements. As illustrated in Figure 9 the two brackets 2170 used for further fixation of the driver boxes 1000 may be sufficient for mounting of the luminaire 1.
  • Hence various implementations of such a luminaire 1 are presented that each aim at improving flexibility of operation of the luminaire 1. Hereby, embodiments of the luminaire 1 are presented, that comprise respective configurations regarding the thermal separation of individual components. Here, hot spots (such as light source 2210 and its heat sink the housing 2100, and driver 1220) are distanced from each other while maintaining a flat and slim luminaire 1. Depending on the respective embodiment it is made possible to achieve a high output power for variants up to 50k lumens and variants that can withstand an ambient temperature of up to 55°C. Moreover, configurations for improving sealing of the luminaire 1 are provided as well as configurations for further improving assembly and mounting of the luminaire 1. The respective features shown with the different embodiments are hereby interchangeable if not otherwise stated.
