Abstract

Die Erfindung betrifft die Herstellung eines CO2-negativen Polyethylenterephthalats. Es ist vorgesehen, dass Polysaccharide in einem Verfahren zur Herstellung eines CO2- negativen Polyethylenterephthalats verwendet werden. Das Verfahren weist die folgenden Schritte auf: a) Gewinnung von Monoethylenglykol aus einem Polysaccharid, b) Gewinnung von Terephthalsäure aus einem Polysaccharid, und c) Reaktion des Monoethylenglykols aus Schritt a) mit der Terephthalsäure aus Schritt b) zu Polyethylenterephthalat.

Description

Beschreibung
Verfahren zur Herstellung eines CC>2-negativen Polyethylenterephthalats aus erneuerbaren Rohstoffen.
Die Erfindung betrifft die Herstellung eines CC>2-negativen Polyethylenterephthalats.
Zur Verbesserung der Gesamt-CCh-Bilanz beispielsweise von Fahrzeugen ist der Einsatz nachhaltiger Werkstoffen ein effektiver Stellhebel. Nachhaltige Polymerlösungen besitzen in diesem Zuge eine immer stärkere Bedeutung in der Automobilindustrie. Die drei relevantesten Rohstoffquellen für nachhaltige Polymere umfassen hierbei biobasierte Ansätze auf Basis nachwachsender Rohstoffe, Rezyklatkunststoffe sowie CCh-basierte Polymeransätze. In der Literatur sind bereits biobasierte Polymere bekannt (PLA, PHB, etc.), um den CCh-Fußabdruck über den gesamten Produktlebenszyklus im Vergleich zur petrochemischen Alternative gering zu halten. Weiterhin werden vermehrt thermoplastische Polymere aus Rezyklatprozessen eingesetzt, um den CCh-Ausstoß durch einen geschlossenen Werkstoffkreislauf gering zu halten. Diese beiden Großteile der genannten Werkstoffklassen sind jedoch weniger für den Einsatz in anspruchsvollen Anwendungen geeignet, da sowohl bei den biobasierten Ansätze als auch bei den Rezyklatkunststoffen durch natürliche Syntheseprozesse und durch Degradationseffekte im Recyclingprozess keine Steuerung des Molekulargewichtes sowie der Molekulargewichtsverteilung möglich ist.
Das Polymer Polyethylenterephthalat (PET) kann bekanntermaßen aus Monoethylenglykol (MEG) und Terephthalsäure (PTA, purified terephthalic acid) hergestellt werden. Die Terephthalsäure kann über die Zwischenstufen CMF (Chloromethylfurfural), MF (Methylfurfural), DMF (Dimethylfurfural) und p-Xylol synthetisiert werden.
Die katalytische Synthese von MEG (Monoethylenglykol) aus CO2 ist beispielsweise aus US 2020/0347502 A1 bekannt.
Vielfach wird MEG auch aus dem Epoxid Ethylenoxid gewonnen.
Die Synthese von PTA (Terephthalsäure) aus nachwachsenden Rohstoffen, wie Zellulose, über die Stufe des para-Xylols ist bekannt aus US 8,889,938 B2. Auch US2 011/0311829 A1 beschäftigt sich mit erneuerbaren Ressourcen. Beschrieben wird eine Methode für die CCh-emissionsneutrale Herstellung von druck- und spannungsstabilen Aufbaumaterialien und Fasern. Der zweite Schritt sei sogar CCh-emissionsnegativ. Synthetische Kohlenstofffasern ersetzen hierbei Beton oder Stahl.
Der Erfindung liegt nun die Aufgabe zugrunde, ein umweltfreundlicheres Herstellverfahren für Polyethylenterephthalate bereitzustellen. Es sollte ein CCh-negative Bilanz aufweisen. Die Molekulargewichtsverteilung sollte eng sein. Das heißt die Polymerisation sollte kontrolliert ablaufen können. Darüber hinaus sollte das Polyethylenterephthalat stabil sein.
Gegenstand der Erfindung ist ein Verfahren zur Herstellung eines CC>2-negativen Polyethylenterephthalats (PET) mit den Schritten: a) Gewinnung von Monoethylenglykol (MEG) aus einem Polysaccharid, b) Gewinnung von Terephthalsäure (PTA) aus einem Polysaccharid, das gleich oder unterschiedlich zu dem Polysaccharid aus Schritt a) sein kann, c) Reaktion des Monoethylenglykols (MEG) aus Schritt a) mit der Terephthalsäure (PTA) aus Schritt b) zu Polyethylenterephthalat (PET).
Die Reihenfolge der Schritte a) und b) kann ersichtlicher Weise vertauscht werden.
Polysaccharide sind Polyzucker/Vielfachzucker und werden auch als Glycane/Glykane oder Polyosen bezeichnet. Es sind Kohlenhydrate, in denen eine große Anzahl (mindestens 11) Monosaccharide (Einfachzucker) über eine glycosidische Bindung verbunden sind. Beispiele für Polysaccharide sind Glycogen, Stärke (Amylose und Amylopektin), Pektine, Chitin, Callose und Cellulose. Polysaccharide sind auch in Holz enthalten (Cellulose/Hemicellulose), zusammen mit Lignin.
Erfindungsgemäß sind vom Begriff „Polysaccharid“ auch Mischungen verschiedener Polysaccharide umfasst.
Die Reaktion des PET aus MEG und PTA erfolgt bekanntermaßen über eine Veresterungskatalyse.
Die erfindungsgemäße, industrielle Synthese des CO2-negativen Polyethylenterephthalats erfolgt mithilfe einer zweistufigen direkten Polykondensationsreaktion oder über eine Massenpolymerisation. Die Edukte der Polymerisationsreaktion umfassen MEG und PTA sowie Veresterungskatalysatoren. Zunächst verestert die PTA mit einem Überschuss von MEG direkt zu Oligoesterstrukturen unter einer Entfernung des entstehenden Wassers, um die Gleichgewichtsreaktion in Richtung der Reaktionsprodukte zu verschieben. Anschließend bilden sich die Oligoesterstrukturen aus. Die reaktiven Veresterungskatalysatoren können die Reaktionsrate nach einer Veresterung der katalytisch aktiven Säuregruppen konstant halten. Zur Erhöhung des Molekulargewichtes des Polymers kann industriell auch eine anschließende Massenpolymerisation durchgeführt werden, bei welcher das PTA nicht in einem Überschuss des MEG gelöst wird, sondern gleiche Anteile beider Monomere verwendet werden. Sinnvollerweise findet die Reaktion im Temperaturbereich zwischen der Glasübergangstemperatur und der Schmelztemperatur des Polymerwerkstoffes statt, um eine Mobilität der sich bildenden Kettensegmente zu ermöglichen. Hierdurch können Molmassen über 100000 Da generiert und eine hohe Kristal linität des Polymerwerkstoffes erreicht werden.
Gegenstand ist darüber hinaus auch die Verwendung von Polysacchariden in einem Verfahren zur Herstellung eines CO2-negativen Polyethylenterephthalats (PET), insbesondere im erfindungsgemäßen Verfahren.
Erläuterungen betreffend bevorzugte Ausführungsformen gelten also sowohl für das Verfahren, als auch für die Verwendung.
Vorteil der Erfindung ist, dass das gesamte Herstellverfahren sowie das resultierende Polymer CO2-negativ ist. Das heißt, es wird CO2 in chemisch gebundener Form gebunden. Das Verfahren ist ökologisch, denn alle Ausgangsstoffe werden aus erneuerbaren Rohstoffquellen gewonnen. Im Vergleich dazu sind die Herstellungsverfahren für PET aus dem Stand der Technik lediglich CO2-neutral, denn im Stand der Technik wird einer der beiden Ausgangsstoffe, Monoethylenglykol oder Terephthalsäure, aus Erdöl gewonnen.
Der CO2-basierte Polymeransatz liefert eine enge Molekulargewichtsverteilung und das erhaltene PET steht petro-basierten Polymeren hinsichtlich Eigenschaften in nichts nach. Die Erfindung umfasst als Ausführungsbeispiel die CO2-basierte PET-Synthese.
Das mit der Erfindung erhaltene PET eignet sich für die Verwendung im Fahrzeugbau. Weitere Einsatzgebiete sind die Herstellung von Endlosfäden, Stapelfasern, Kräuselfasern, Filzen oder Spinnkabeln für Bekleidungsstoffe, Heimtextilien und industrielle Zwecke oder die Herstellung von Mischungen mit anderen Fasern wie Baumwolle, Wolle, Seide und Kunstfasern. Weitere Anwendungsgebiete sind u. A. Fußbodenbeläge, technische Einsatzgebiete wie beispielsweise Förderbänder, Treibriemen, Reifencord, Feuerwehrschläuche, Seile, Filtermaterialien, Nähfäden und Garne sowie gasdichte Folien oder gasdichte Flaschen für die Lebensmittelindustrie. Anwendungsfelder ergeben sich weiterhin im Gerätebau, in der Feinwerktechnik, in Haushaltsgeräten, Fotofilmen, Magnetbändern und Lebensmittelverpackungen sowie insgesamt angrenzende PET-herstellende, PET-verarbeitende Industriezweige sowie weitere nicht explizit genannte Endanwendungen.
In bevorzugter Ausgestaltung der Erfindung ist vorgesehen, dass das Polysaccharid in Form von Pflanzenabfällen aus der Agrarwirtschaft sowie angrenzenden Industriezweigen bereitgestellt wird (beispielsweise Zellstoffprodukte, Sägemehl, Sägespäne oder auch Holz). In den Schritten a) oder b) des Verfahrens bedarf es dann sinnvollerweise zusätzlicher Extraktions- beziehungsweise Zerkleinerungsschritte.
In einer bevorzugten Ausführung der Erfindung ist mindestens eines der Polysaccharide aus den Schritten a) und b) ausgewählt aus der Polysaccharidquelle Zellulose, insbesondere kann es sich bei Zellulose um Zellulosereststoffe wie Holzhackschnitzel, Sägespäne, Sägemehl, Holzabfälle oder Altpapier etc. handeln.
Besonders bevorzugt wird die gleiche Polysaccharid-Quelle in beiden Schritten a) und b) eingesetzt. Vorteilhaft ist dadurch die industrielle Umsetzung des Verfahrens einfacher und die Anlage effizienter.
Ganz besonders bevorzugt ist das Polysaccharid in Schritt a) und in Schritt b) Zellulose, umfassend auch Zellulosereststoffe. Vorteilhaft ist das Verfahren damit günstiger. Denn Zellulose fällt in vielen Prozessen als Abfall an und ist dem Erdöl als Ausgangsstoff für die PET- Herstellung vorzuziehen, weil es ein ökologischer Rohstoff ist.
In einer anderen bevorzugten Ausführungsform des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens wird in Schritt a) das Polysaccharid thermisch abgebaut und umgesetzt zu Ethylen, CO2 und H2O. Vorteilhaft wird so das eingesetzte Polysaccharid vollständig verwertet. Denn Ethylen, CO2 und H2O sind relevante Rohstoffe für viele Reaktionen.
Die Temperatur beträgt bei dem thermischen Abbau bevorzugt >300-600°C, besonders bevorzugt >350°C, insbesondere 350-500 °C, auch 350-450°C.
In einer bevorzugten Variante dieser Ausführungsform, bei der in Schritt a) das Polysaccharid thermisch abgebaut und umgesetzt wird zu Ethylen, CO2 und H2O, wird die Umsetzung des thermisch abgebauten Polysaccharids zu Ethylen, CO2 und H2O mittels der bekannten Fischer- Tropsch-Synthese durchgeführt. Sie eignet sich vorteilhaft besonders gut, um möglichst große Mengen Ethylen, CO2 und H2O zu gewinnen, die eine gewisse Reinheit aufweisen.
In einer ebenfalls bevorzugten Variante dieser Ausführungsform des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens wird in Schritt a) das gewonnene CO2 und H2O elektrolytisch zu Monoethylenglykol (MEG), O2 und H2 umgesetzt.
Vorteilhaft werden damit aus den relativ inerten Gasen CO2 und H2O reaktivere Verbindungen hergestellt. Das sind zum Einen das MEG selbst (Ausgangsstoff des erfindungsgemäßen PET- Herstellverfahrens) und zum Anderen O2 und H2, die in einer besonders bevorzugten Ausführung für die Gewinnung der Terephthalsäure in Schritt b) genutzt werden.
Vorteilhaft können O2 und H2 in Schritt b) genutzt werden, was die Energiebilanz des Verfahrens nennenswert verbessert.
Beide Varianten können miteinander kombiniert werden.
In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird somit das in Schritt a) gewonnene Ethylen in Schritt b) für die Gewinnung von Terephthalsäure eingesetzt, beispielsweise für die Synthese der Zwischenstufe des p-Xylols. Durch die Nutzung des Ethylens aus dem Polysaccharid verbessert sich konsequenterweise die Energiebilanz und damit auch die CO2-Bilanz.
In einer ebenfalls bevorzugten Ausführungsform wird zudem der in Schritt a) gewonnene Sauerstoff O2 und/oder Wasserstoff H2 in Schritt b) für die Gewinnung von Terephthalsäure eingesetzt, besonders bevorzugt beides. Insbesondere kann das H2 für die Synthese der Zwischenstufe Methylfurfural aus Chloromethylfurfural beziehungsweise das O2 für die Synthese der Terephthalsäure aus p-Xylol eingesetzt werden. Vorteilhaft verbessert sich durch die Nutzungen von O2 und/oder H2 die Energiebilanz und damit auch die CO2-Bilanz.
In weiterer bevorzugter Ausgestaltung der Erfindung ist die Temperatur in Schritt c) zwischen 260 und 290 °C, besonders bevorzugt 270-280°C. Vorteil dieser Ausführungsform ist, dass die Löslichkeit des PTA in dem MEG verbessert wird. Denn bekanntermaßen muss bei der Reaktion die Monomerzufuhr aufgrund der geringen Löslichkeit des Monomers PTA in MEG sonst gering gehalten werden. Die hohe Temperatur verbessert die Löslichkeit des PTA. In einer bevorzugten Ausführungsform liegt der Druck in Schritt c) bei < 50 Pa, besonders 10 bis 50 Pa, insbesondere < 50 Pa.
Weitere bevorzugte Ausgestaltungen der Erfindung ergeben sich aus den übrigen, in den Unteransprüchen genannten Merkmalen.
Die verschiedenen in dieser Anmeldung genannten Ausführungsformen der Erfindung sind, sofern im Einzelfall nicht anders ausgeführt, mit Vorteil miteinander kombinierbar.
Die Erfindung wird nachfolgend in Ausführungsbeispielen anhand der zugehörigen Zeichnungen erläutert.
Fig. 1 zeigt ein konkretes Ausführungsbeispiel des erfindungsgemäßen Verfahrens.
Ausführungsbeispiel 1 :
Fig. 1 zeigt das konkrete Ausführungsbeispiel 1. Die Temperatur während der Reaktion von MEG und PTA (in Schritt c) liegt bei 270-280°C und der Druck bei < 50 Pa.
Zelluloseabfall wurde als Polysaccharid-Quelle zum einen für die Gewinnung des PTA eingesetzt, wobei es zuerst zu Chloromethylfurfural umgesetzt wurde.
Zum anderen wurde der Zelluloseabfall thermisch abgebaut und mittels Fischer-Tropsch- Verfahren zu Ethylen (=Ethen), Kohlenstoffdioxid und Wasser umgesetzt, wobei die beiden Letztgenannten elektrolytisch zu Sauerstoff, Wasserstoff und MEG verfeinert wurden.
Wie in Fig. 1 erkennbar wurden sowohl Ethylen, als auch Sauerstoff und Wasserstoff in die PTA-Synthese eingeschleust und dort für verschiedene Reaktionsstufen (in der PTA- Gewinnung über CMF, MF, DMF und p-Xylol) genutzt. Bezugszeichenliste

Claims

Patentansprüche Verfahren zur Herstellung eines CCh-negativen Polyethylenterephthalats (4) mit den Schritten: a) Gewinnung von Monoethylenglykol (2) aus einem Polysaccharid (1), b) Gewinnung von Terephthalsäure (3) aus einem Polysaccharid (1), und c) Reaktion des Monoethylenglykols (2) aus Schritt a) mit der Terephthalsäure (3) aus Schritt b) zu Polyethylenterephthalat (4). Verfahren nach Anspruch 1, wobei das Polysaccharid (1) in Form nachwachsender Rohstoffe eingesetzt wird. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 oder 2, wobei mindestens eines der Polysaccharide (1) aus den Schritten a) und b) Holz oder Zellulose ist. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 3, wobei das Polysaccharid (1) aus Schritt a) und das Polysaccharid (1) aus Schritt b) Holz oder Zellulose ist. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 4, wobei in Schritt a) das Polysaccharid (1) thermisch abgebaut und umgesetzt wird zu Ethylen, CO2 und H2O (20,30,40). Verfahren nach Anspruch 5, wobei die Umsetzung des thermisch abgebauten Polysaccharids zu Ethylen, CO2 und H2O (20,30,40) mittels Fischer-Tropsch-Synthese stattfindet. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 5 oder 6, wobei in Schritt a) das gewonnene CO2 und H2O (30,40) elektrolytisch zu dem Monoethylenglykol, O2 und H2 (2,50,60) umgesetzt wird. Verfahren nach einem der Ansprüche 5 bis 7, wobei das in Schritt a) gewonnene Ethylen (20) in Schritt b) für die Gewinnung von Terephthalsäure (3) eingesetzt wird. Verfahren nach Anspruch 7, wobei das in Schritt a) gewonnene O2 und H2 (50,60) in Schritt b) für die Gewinnung von Terephthalsäure (3) eingesetzt wird. Verwendung von Polysacchariden (1) in einem Verfahren zur Herstellung eines CO2- negativen Polyethylenterephthalats (4) nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 9.
