Abstract

A corner insert (102) for formwork panels (100) is disclosed that includes a planar portion (302) adapted to be aligned with a surface of a formwork panel. The corner insert (102) also includes an engaging portion (304) disposed below the planar portion (302) and adapted to be coupled to the formwork panel (100) to attach the corner insert (104) to a corner (104) of the formwork panel (100). Further, the planar portion (302) is aligned with the surface of the formwork panel in a manner that a right-angled corner is defined on the formwork panel (100).

Description

A CORNER INSERT FOR FORMWORK PANELS
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present disclosure relates to construction industry and more particularly, relates to a corner insert for formwork panels.
BACKGROUND
In the construction industry, wall forms, or panels, such as deck panels, are generally used as supporting components to form structures, such as roofs, floors, columns, and walls. Such panels are usually made of wood having a metal frame or made entirely of metal. Based on the dimensions and shape of a structure to be formed, multiple panels are installed at a construction site to form a hollow space that would correspond to the dimensions and shape of the structure. Generally, the formwork panels are provided with chamfered or notched corners. Owing to such corners, assembly of the formwork panels for certain applications and at different site locations require additional components. This results in a time-consuming and cumbersome task. For instance, if the assembly of the formwork panels is initiated adjacent to a wall member, then additional infills are required at the chamfered or notched corners of the formwork panels for optimal assembly. Further, in another instance, assembly of the framework panels in different orientations with respect to each other becomes cumbersome and ineffective owing to the presence of the chamfered or notched corners at the formwork panels.

In an embodiment of the present disclosure, a comer insert for formwork panels is disclosed. The corner insert may be removably coupled to a notched comer or a chamfered corner of a formwork panel. The chamfered corner can be converted to a right-angled corner by attaching the comer insert to the chamfered comer of the formwork panel. The corner insert can be formed of any material including, but not limited to, Steel, Aluminium, timber, and polymer. The corner insert enables a user to initiate assembly of the framework panels adjacent to wall corners and eliminates the use of infills. Further, implementation of the corner inserts enables assembly of the formwork panels in different orientations with respect to each other.
In an embodiment, a corner insert for formwork panels is disclosed. The comer insert comprises a planar portion adapted to be aligned with a surface of a formwork panel. Further, the corner insert comprises an engaging portion disposed below the planar portion and adapted to be coupled to the formwork panel to attach the comer insert to a corner of the formwork panel. The corner of the formwork panel has a chamfered contour. The planar portion is aligned with the surface of the formwork panel in a manner that a right-angled corner is defined on the formwork panel.
In another embodiment, a method for fastening a corner insert to formwork panels is disclosed. The method comprises positioning the corner insert at a chamfered corner of the formwork panel. Further, the method comprises aligning a planar portion of the corner insert with a plane defined by a surface of the formwork panel. At least one edge of the planar portion abuts an edge defining the chamfered corner. The method comprises fastening a clamping member with a supporting stmcture of the formwork panel. The supporting stmcture is disposed below the surface of the formwork panel.
In yet another embodiment, a formwork panel is disclosed. The formwork panel comprises a supporting structure and at least one comer insert adapted to be coupled to a corner of the formwork panel. The at least one insert comprises a planar portion adapted to be aligned with a surface of a formwork panel. Further, the at least one insert comprises an engaging portion disposed below the planar portion. The engaging portion comprises a clamping portion adapted to be coupled to the supporting stmcture of the formwork panel. The clamping portion comprises a clip adapted to be snap-fitted with the supporting structure of the formwork panel to attach the corner insert to a corner of the formwork panel. The comer of the formwork panel has a chamfered contour. The planar portion is aligned with the surface of the formwork panel in a manner that a right-angled corner is defined on the formwork panel. In another embodiment, a slab formwork assembly is disclosed. The slab formwork assembly comprises a plurality of formwork panels adapted to be attached with each other or with a structural component. At least one of a formwork panel from among the plurality of formwork panels comprises at least one corner insert coupled to a comer of said formwork panel. The at least one comer insert comprises a planar portion adapted to be aligned with a surface of a formwork panel. Further, the at least one comer insert comprises an engaging portion disposed below the planar portion. The at least one corner comprises a clamping portion adapted to be coupled to the supporting structure of the formwork panel. The clamping portion comprises a clip adapted to be snap-fitted with the supporting stmcture of the formwork panel to attach the corner insert to a corner of the formwork panel. The corner of the formwork panel has a chamfered contour. The planar portion is aligned with the surface of the formwork panel in a manner that a right-angled corner is defined on the formwork panel. The at least one corner insert coupled to the corner of the formwork panel is adapted to occupy a gap defined between the comer of such formwork panel and one of the structure and adjacent formwork panel.

Embodiments of the present invention will be described below in detail with reference to the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 illustrates a planar view of a corner insert 102 coupled to a formwork panel 100, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In an embodiment, the formwork panels 100 may be adapted to be used for the construction of structures, such as walls, roofs, floors, and columns. The formwork panel 100 may be embodied as deck panels that act as a surface of a floor or a roof, without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. Generally, the formwork panel 100, such as a slab formwork panel, may be provided with chamfered corners 104 which are needed to be converted to right-angled corners based on applications and site at which the formwork panel 100 is to be implemented.
Figures 2a, 2b, and 2c illustrate planar views depicting different arrangements of comer inserts 102 with respect to a plurality of formwork panels 100, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. As explained earlier, in one implementation, a slab formwork assembly may include multiple framework panels 100 assembled together to form a structural component, such as a roof and a floor. Although, owing to the chamfered corners 104 of the framework panels 100, additional infills may be required at the chamfered corners 104 if the formwork panels 100 are needed to be assembled adjacent to a structural component, such as a wall 202. Referring to Figure 2a, the corner inserts 102 may substantially eliminate the usage of additional infills at the chamfered corners 104 of the formwork panel 100. In particular, if the formwork panel 100 may be needed to be assembled adjacent to a wall 202, then the corner insert 102 can be coupled to the chamfered corners 104 to achieve a parallelogram- shaped formwork panel with right- angle corners.
Referring to Figure 2b, different layouts of the formwork panels 100 may be obtained by assembling the formwork panels 100 with each other in different orientations. For instance, in the illustrated embodiment, a first set of formwork panels 100-1 may be longitudinally oriented and coupled with each other. Further, a second set of formwork panels 100-2 may be positioned adjacent to the first set of formwork panels 100-1 and laterally oriented with respect to the first set of formwork panels 100-2. In such an arrangement, the comer inserts 102 may be coupled to the chamfered corners 104 of the first set of formwork panels 100-1 which are assembled to the second set of formwork panels 100-2. Thereby, the comer inserts 102 may enable assembly of the formwork panels 100 oriented in different directions with respect to each other. Further, the formwork panel 100 snap-fitted with corner inserts 102 is used for change of direction of formwork panels 100 wherever necessary.
In the illustrated embodiment, the corner insert 102 may be adapted to be removably coupled to a chamfered comer 104 of the formwork panel 100. The corner insert 102 may be coupled to the chamfered corner 104 to define a right-angled corner on the formwork panel 100. Referring to Figure 1, the formwork panel 100 may be provided with a chamfered corner 104 defining a 45-degree angle between adjacent edges 204 of the formwork panel 100. However, it should be appreciated by a person skilled in the art that it should not be construed as limiting, and the formwork panel 100 may be provided with corners having a profile other than chamfer, without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. Based on the profile of the corner of the formwork panel 100, the corner insert 102 can be designed and manufactured in a manner that a right-angled corner may be defined upon attaching the comer insert 102 to the comer of the formwork panel 100.
Referring to Figure 1, the present disclosure may be explained with respect to the comer insert 102 for the chamfered corners 104 of the formwork panel 100. However, as mentioned earlier, it should be appreciated by a person skilled in the art that it should not be constmed as limiting, and the present disclosure is equally applicable to the corner inserts 102 manufactured and designed for comers having profiles other than chamfer, without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. Constructional and operational details of the corner insert 102 are explained in detail in the subsequent sections of the present disclosure.
Figure 3 illustrates an isometric view of the comer insert 102 for the formwork panel 100, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. In an embodiment, the corner insert 102 may be formed of one of a polymer material, a metallic material, such as Steel and Aluminium, and timber, without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. In the illustrated embodiment, referring to Figure 3, the corner insert 102 may include, but is not limited to, a planar portion 302 and an engaging portion 304. The planar portion 302 may be adapted to be aligned with a surface 306 of the formwork panel 100. The engaging portion 304 may be adapted to be coupled to the formwork panel 100 to attach the corner insert 104 to one of the chamfered corners 104 of the formwork panel 100. In the illustrated embodiment, the engaging portion 304 may include, but is not limited to, a body 304-1 and a clamping member 304-2 coupled to the body 304-1. The clamping member 304-2 may be fastened to the body 304-1 via fasteners 307, such as screws, without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. The clamping member 304-2 may include a clip 308 adapted to be fastened to a supporting structure 602 (as shown in Figure 6) of the formwork panel 100. In an embodiment, the clamping member 304-2 may be adapted to be snap-fitted with the supporting structure 602, such as a square tube, of the formwork panel 100. Referring to Figure 2, the clamping member 304-2 may include, but is not limited to, a triangular- shape clip 308 adapted to be snap-fitted with the square tube of the formwork panel 100.
Figure 4 illustrates an isometric view depicting assembly of the corner insert 102 to the chamfered comer 104 of the formwork panel 100, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. Figure 5 illustrates an isometric view depicting coupling of the corner insert 102 to the formwork panel 100, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. Figure 6 illustrates an arrangement depicting coupling of the corner insert 102 to the formwork panel 100, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure.
Referring to Figure 4, Figure 5, and Figure 6, the corner insert 102 may be removably assembled to the chamfered corner 104 of the formwork panel 100. Initially, the corner insert 102 may be held in a position at the chamfered comer 104 in a manner that the planar portion remains aligned with a plane defined by the surface 306 of the formwork panel 100. Subsequently, the corner insert 102 may be moved towards an edge 104-1 defining the chamfered corner 104 of the formwork panel 100. One of the edges 302-1 of the planar portion 302 may abut the edge 104-1 defining the chamfered corner 104 of the formwork panel 100. Thereafter, the clamping member 304-2 may be snap-fitted with the supporting stmcture 602, such as the square tube, of the formwork panel 100. In the illustrated embodiment, the triangular- shape clip 308 of the clamping member 304-2 may be snap-fitted with the supporting structure 602 to hold the corner insert 102 at the chamfered corner 104.
In an embodiment, a method for fastening a corner insert 102 to formwork panels 100 is disclosed. The method may include positioning the corner insert 102 at a chamfered corner of the formwork panel 100. Further, the method may include aligning a planar portion of the corner insert with a plane defined by a surface of the formwork panel 100. At least one edge 302-1 of the planar portion 302 abuts an edge 104-1 defining the chamfered corner 104. The method may include fastening a clamping member 304-2 with a supporting structure 602 of the formwork panel, wherein the supporting structure 602 is disposed below the surface of the formwork panel 100. In an embodiment, the method may include fastening a clip 308 of the clamping member 304-2 to the supporting structure 602 of the formwork panel 100. The clip 308 may be adapted to be snap-fitted with the supporting structure 602 of the formwork panel 100.
Figures 7a and 7b illustrate disassembly of the corner insert 102 from the formwork panel 100, according to an embodiment of the present disclosure. Referring to Figure 6a and Figure 6b, the comer insert 102 may be removably disassembled from the chamfered corner 104 of the formwork panel 100. Initially, the clamping member 304-2 may be disengaged from the supporting structure 602 of the formwork panel 100. In the illustrated embodiment, the triangular- shape clip 308 of the clamping member 304-2 may be pressed in a downward direction to disengage the triangular- shape clip 308 from the supporting structure 602 of the formwork panel 100. Upon disengaging the triangular- shape clip 308, the corner insert 102 may be moved away from the chamfered corner 104 and subsequently, removed from the formwork panel 100.
As would be gathered, the present disclosure offers the comer insert 102 for the formwork panels 100. The corner insert 102 may be coupled to the chamfered comers 104 of the formwork panel 100 to attain right-angle comers at the formwork panels 100. As explained earlier, implementation of the corner insert 102 in the formwork panels 100 may allow assembling of the formwork panels 100 adjacent to the wall 202 without using additional infills at the chamfered corners 104 of the formwork panels 100. Further, implementation of the corner inserts 102 at the chamfered corners 104 may enable assembly of the formwork panels 100 in different orientations based on the applications and the site requirements. Therefore, the comer inserts 102 of the present disclosure is flexible in implementation, efficient, cost-effective, and convenient.

As would be apparent to a person in the art, various working modifications may be made to the method in order to implement the inventive concept as taught herein. The drawings and the foregoing description give examples of embodiments. Those skilled in the art will appreciate that one or more of the described elements may well be combined into a single functional element. Alternatively, certain elements may be split into multiple functional elements. Elements from one embodiment may be added to another embodiment.

Claims

We Claim:
1. A comer insert (102) for formwork panels (100), the corner insert (102) comprising: a planar portion (302) adapted to be aligned with a surface of a formwork panel; and an engaging portion (304) disposed below the planar portion (302) and adapted to be coupled to the formwork panel (100) to attach the corner insert (104) to a corner (104) of the formwork panel (100), and wherein the planar portion (302) is aligned with the surface of the formwork panel in a manner that a right-angled corner is defined on the formwork panel (100).
2. The corner insert (102) as claimed in claim 1, wherein the engaging portion (304) comprises a body (304-1) and a clamping member (304-2) coupled to the body (304- 1), and wherein the corner of the formwork panel (100) has a chamfered contour.
3. The corner insert (102) as claimed in claim 2, wherein the clamping member (304-2) is fastened to the body (304-1) via fasteners (307).
4. The corner insert (102) as claimed in any of claims 2 and 3, wherein the clamping member (304-2) comprises a clip (308) adapted to be fastened to a supporting structure (602) of the formwork panel (100).
5. The corner insert (102) as claimed in any of claims 4, wherein the clip (308) is adapted to be snap-fitted with the supporting structure (602) of the formwork panel (100).
6. The corner insert (102) as claimed in any of claims 4 and 5, wherein the clip (308) is embodied as a triangular- shape clip (308) adapted to be snap-fitted with a square tube of the formwork panel (100).
7. A method for fastening a corner insert (102) to formwork panels (100), the method comprising: positioning the corner insert (102) at a chamfered corner of the formwork panel (100); aligning a planar portion of the corner insert with a plane defined by a surface of the formwork panel (100), wherein at least one edge (302-1) of the planar portion (302) abuts an edge (104-1) defining the chamfered corner (104); and fastening a clamping member (304-2) with a supporting structure (602) of the formwork panel, wherein the supporting structure (602) is disposed below the surface of the formwork panel (100).
8. The method as claimed in claim 7 further comprising: fastening a clip (308) of the clamping member (304-2) to the supporting structure (602) of the formwork panel (100), wherein the clip (308) is adapted to be snap-fitted with the supporting structure (602) of the formwork panel (100) and lifted together along with the formwork panel (100) and the formwork panel (100) snap-fitted with comer inserts (102) is used for change of direction of formwork panels (100) wherever necessary.
9. A formwork panel (100) comprising: a supporting structure; and at least one corner insert (102) adapted to be coupled to a corner of the formwork panel (100), the at least one insert comprising: a planar portion (302) adapted to be aligned with a surface of a formwork panel; and an engaging portion (304) disposed below the planar portion (302) and comprising: a clamping portion adapted to be coupled to the supporting structure of the formwork panel, wherein the clamping portion comprises a clip (308) adapted to be snap-fitted with the supporting structure (602) of the formwork panel (100) to attach the corner insert (104) to a corner (104) of the formwork panel (100), and wherein the planar portion (302) is aligned with the surface of the formwork panel in a manner that a right-angled corner is defined on the formwork panel (100). The formwork panel (100) as claimed in claim 9, wherein the comer of the formwork panel (100) has a chamfered contour. A slab formwork assembly comprising: a plurality of formwork panels (100) adapted to be attached either with each other or with a structural component, at least one of a formwork panel from among the plurality of formwork panels (100) comprising: at least one comer insert (102) coupled to a corner of said formwork panel, the at least one corner insert (102) comprising: a planar portion (302) adapted to be aligned with a surface of a formwork panel; and an engaging portion (304) disposed below the planar portion (302) and comprising: a clamping portion adapted to be coupled to the supporting structure of the formwork panel, wherein the clamping portion comprises a clip (308) adapted to be snap-fitted with the supporting stmcture (602) of the formwork panel (100) to attach the corner insert (104) to a corner (104) of the formwork panel (100), and wherein the planar portion (302) is aligned with the surface of the formwork panel in a manner that a right-angled corner is defined on the formwork panel (100). wherein the at least one corner insert (102) coupled to the corner of the formwork panel is adapted to occupy a gap defined between the comer of such formwork panel and one of the structure component and adjacent formwork panel. The slab formwork assembly as claimed in claim 11, wherein the corner of the formwork panel (100) has a chamfered contour.
