- the fiber material according to the invention for producing a container wherein the fiber material comprises fiber structures to ensure a predetermined barrier property of a container made from the fiber material.
- the fibrous structures may include natural fibers that have been processed, such as viscose fibers that have been hydrophobized to be water-repellent.
- the fiber structures can include, for example, cellulose fibers, wood fibers (e.g. pine, birch, etc.), hemp fibers, grass fibers or other natural fibers that have been hydrophobicized, to be water-repellent and/or to provide a gas barrier, for example against water vapor, oxygen, carbon dioxide and/or nitrogen.
- siloxanes, alcanoates, oleates, silanes, SiOx or similar can be used to hydrophobize the fibers.
- the fibers can be treated and/or doped with it.
- the fiber structures can be used to specifically assign properties to the fiber material that enable functionality with regard to the specified barrier properties.
- the specified barrier property can result in a hydrophobic property or an adsorption of oxygen.
- the predetermined barrier property may include a barrier value for oxygen and/or carbon dioxide permeability, wherein the barrier value at an ambient temperature of 23° C. and a relative humidity of 50% is less than 100 cm 3 / (m 2 ⁇ d ⁇ bar) (where cm 3 : cubic centimeter; m 2 : square meter; d: day; bar: bar), for example less than 10 cm 3 / (m 2 d bar), for example less than 1 cm 3 / (m 2 d bar), or, for example, can be smaller than 0.1 cm 3 / (m 2 ⁇ d ⁇ bar).

Bottles made from pulp may therefore soften on the inside when filled with product or soften on the outside if the bottle is exposed to moisture. Gas can also diffuse into the bottle from outside and/or out of the bottle or out of the filled product.
In general, therefore, coatings are provided for bottles made from pulp, which coatings may comprise polymers, acrylates, waxes or similar substances.
The object of the invention is to provide a fiber material for producing a container, a method for producing a container and a container comprising the fiber material which ensure the barrier properties of the container.
The object is achieved by the fiber material for producing a container, the method for producing a container and the container comprising the fiber material according to the independent claims. Further embodiments are disclosed in the subclaims.
The fiber material according to the invention for producing a container, wherein the fiber material comprises fiber structures to ensure a predetermined barrier property of a container made from the fiber material.
The fibrous structures may include natural fibers that have been processed, such as viscose fibers that have been hydrophobized to be water-repellent.
The fiber structures can include, for example, cellulose fibers, wood fibers (e.g. pine, birch, etc.), hemp fibers, grass fibers or other natural fibers that have been hydrophobicized, to be water-repellent and/or to provide a gas barrier, for example against water vapor, oxygen, carbon dioxide and/or nitrogen.
For example, siloxanes, alcanoates, oleates, silanes, SiOx or similar can be used to hydrophobize the fibers. For example, the fibers can be treated and/or doped with it.
The fiber structures can be used to specifically assign properties to the fiber material that enable functionality with regard to the specified barrier properties.
The specified barrier property can result in a hydrophobic property or an adsorption of oxygen. The predetermined barrier property may include a barrier value for oxygen and/or carbon dioxide permeability, wherein the barrier value at an ambient temperature of 23° C. and a relative humidity of 50% is less than 100 cm 3 / (m 2 ·d · bar) (where cm 3 : cubic centimeter; m 2 : square meter; d: day; bar: bar), for example less than 10 cm 3 / (m 2 d bar), for example less than 1 cm 3 / (m 2 d bar), or, for example, can be smaller than 0.1 cm 3 / (m 2 ·d · bar).
A barrier value for water vapor permeability may be in a range of 0.1 g/(m 2 ·d) to 1 g/(m 2 ·d) (the range limits may be included) (where g: grams; m 2 : square meter; d: day), for example, the barrier value for water vapor permeability can be less than 0.1 g/(m 2 ·d).
The fiber structures can include viscose fibers. A viscose fiber is an artificial fiber made from regenerated cellulose, whereby the viscose fibers have 100% cellulose as a starting point, which is treated in a multi-stage process.
The viscose fibers may comprise a flat or cable-shaped structure.
The viscose fibers may comprise a trilobal shape or a double trilobal structure. A trilobal shape includes a Y-shaped cross section and a double trilobal shape includes a double Y cross section. The trilobal or double trilobal structure allows the fibers to be rigid.
The fiber structures can include doping. A first doping can, for example, cause the fiber structures to have hydrophobic properties. For example, a second doping can cause oxygen to be adsorbed by the fiber structures.
The designations “first” and “second” doping only serve to distinguish the dopings and have no further restrictive meaning.
Foreign atoms can be introduced into the fiber material for doping.
A doping can include at least one of siloxanes, alcanoates, oleates, silanes, SiOx or the like.
The fiber structures can comprise a flat structure. By overlapping several such fiber structures, the tear strength can be increased.
The fibrous structures may include a hollow structure. Due to the hollow structure, the fiber structures can be light and still have a stiffening effect.
The fibrous structures may include a corrugated or rough external surface. The corrugated or rough surface can lead to interlocking of the fiber structures and an increase in tear resistance and stability.
The doping can be provided on an outer surface of the fiber structures and/or the doping can be provided on an inner surface of the fiber structures and/or the doping can penetrate the fiber structures.
A method of manufacturing a container using the fiber material as described above or below is provided.
To produce a container, the fiber material, as a basis for a fluid material, can be introduced into a mold in which a container is formed by means of an elastic bladder, for example a rubber bladder. Alternatively, an injection molding process can be provided.
- Making the container and a lid for the container from the fiber material, or
- producing the container from the fiber material and producing the lid for the container from a material comprising fibers, the material not comprising any of the fiber structures, or
- Making the container from a material comprising fibers, wherein the material does not include any of the fiber structures, and making the lid for the container from the fiber material, or
- Manufacture of the container, wherein a bottom of the container comprises the fibrous material and wherein the remaining container comprises a material comprising fibers, wherein the material does not include any of the fibrous structures, or
- Manufacturing the container, wherein a shoulder and/or thread portion of the container comprises the fibrous material and wherein the remaining container comprises a material comprising fibers, wherein the material does not comprise any of the fibrous structures.
The various combinations in which different parts of the container can be produced either comprising the fiber material or comprising a material comprising fibers, the material not comprising any of the fiber structures, enable a selection, for example, according to given types of use of the container, such as length of shelf life, filling with what type of product etc.
Further, the method may include applying a layer of the fiber material to at least a portion of an outer and/or to at least a portion of an interior surface of a container, wherein the container may comprise a material comprising fibers, wherein the material may not include any of the fiber structures.
A container can thus be produced which, in principle, can comprise a coating made of the fiber material.
The method may further comprise applying a layer of the fibrous material to at least a portion of an interior surface of a lid of the container.
Since the thread of a lid at least partially overlaps the thread of the container when the container is closed, it may be sufficient if only the inner surface of the lid is coated with the fiber material and the specified barrier properties can thereby be guaranteed.
The method may further include making a top portion of a lid of the container from the fibrous material and making a side portion of the threaded lid from a material comprising fibers, wherein the material does not include any of the fibrous structures.
In this way, the specified barrier property can be guaranteed by the upper part of the lid, which includes the fiber material.
Furthermore, a container comprising the fiber material, as described above or below, is provided. The container can be manufactured using the method described above.
