Definitions

  • the present invention relates to an electronic smoking device for generating an inhalable aerosol, wherein the electronic smoking device comprises a mouth piece and a body section, the body section comprising a substance cartridge with an aerosolizable substance, a heating section, and a hull, wherein the heating section is arranged in between the mouth piece and the substance cartridge, and wherein the heating section is heatable to aerosolise the aerosolizable substance.
  • Such electronic smoking devices are known in the tobacco industry, wherein most of them contain a liquid inside the substance cartridge which is soaked up by a wick and transported to the heating section. The liquid then usually gets into contact with a heating element and is thereby vapoured to be inhaled through a mouth piece by a consumer. Due to fact that the heating element in such electronic smoking device usually does not heat the wick evenly, some parts are heated more than others. This leads to problems with an optimal vaporisation of the liquid, because some of the liquid will be heated too much and some will not be heated sufficiently. Furthermore some of the liquid might not be heated at all and thereby remain in the wick for various heating periods. This could result in a taste for the consumer which is not fresh, or does not correspond to the intended taste of the vaporised liquid.
  • the heating section comprises a porous material and a heating element to heat the porous material, wherein the porous material also comprises a cavity which creates a fluid flow path from the substance cartridge to the mouth piece.
  • the heating element is arranged in a way that it at least partially contacts the porous material to distribute heat from the hating element into the porous material.
  • the porous material distributes the heat evenly to ensure that the same heating temperature is maintained everywhere.
  • the heating section of the electronic smoking device is arranged in between the mouth piece and the substance cartridge of the device.
  • the heating section is preferably not geometrically arranged in between the substance cartridge and the mouth piece, but in a way, that the substance from the substance cartridge preferably has to transit the heating section to enter the mouthpiece.
  • the porous material in the heating section comprises a round, angular, cylindrical, polygonal or other geometrical shape.
  • the cavity is always arranged in the centre of the porous material.
  • the porous material comprises the shape of a tube, wherein the heating element is arranged outside the tube, and wherein the fluid flow path is arranged inside of the tube.
  • the tube is a linear tube, whereby other forms are also possible.
  • the inside of the tube is the cavity of the porous material, wherein the fluid flow path thereby flows through the tube.
  • the cavity inside the porous material comprises an angular, cylindrical, or other geometrical shape.
  • the fluid flow path is dependent on the shape of the cavity and thereby can also be non-linear.
  • the heating element being arranged outside the tube, the substance from the substance cartridge preferably does not directly get into direct contact with the heating element. It is conceivable that the heating element and the substance are arranged on opposite sides of the porous material. Thereby the heating element preferably heats the porous material, wherein the porous material transfers the heat to the substance. This preferably allows an indirect heating of the substance, and thereby an even heat distribution from the heating element to the substance.
  • the heating element is only partially arranged at the outside of the porous material, wherein an at least partial inclusion of the heating element inside the porous material would lead to a better heat dissipation from the heating element to the porous material.
  • the electronic smoking device further comprises a flow sensor to detect a fluid flow inside the device.
  • such sensor can be a flow-meter which preferably measures a fluid flow inside the electronic smoking device.
  • a sensor controls the heating element inside the device to generate a sufficient amount of heat according to a fluid flow inside the device.
  • control of the device occurs regarding and/or corresponding to the flow of the substance which is applied into the cavity.
  • the heating might also be controlled according to the flow through the mouth piece of the device.
  • aerosolizable substance is releasable from the substance cartridge into the cavity of the porous material.
  • the substance is a liquid, wherein releasing thereby preferably means spraying of the liquid from the substance cartridge into the cavity of the porous material.
  • the substance can also be a powder or different solid material which is preferably brought into the cavity by spraying and/or another suitable transport mechanism.
  • the porous material is heated before the substance is released into the cavity. It is conceivable that thereby the substance evaporates and produces vapour which then preferably continues to flow along the flow path.

  • the pressure generating mechanism is also arranged in between the substance cartridge and the atomizer, wherein the substance cartridge would then preferably not be pressurized.
