Description

A WASHING MACHINE COMPRISING A FILTERING MEMBER
The present invention relates to a washing machine comprising a filtering member for filtering the washing water. In washing machines, the laundry is loaded into a drum disposed in a washing tub supplied with detergent-water mixture and is washed in the drum which is rotated. During the washing process, fibers separated from the laundry subjected to both mechanical and chemical effects are discharged, together with the water discharged at the end of the washing process, to the waste water line whereto the washing machine is connected. Each washing process causes approximately 1 milligrams of fibers to enter the waste water line together with the discharged water. It is determined that more than half of microplastic accumulation in the nature is caused by waste waters originating from washing machines. Especially, taking into account the damage caused by synthetic fibers and particles in the nature, it is observed that waste waters originating from washing machines causes a critical environmental pollution. Therefore, the use of filtering members which filter the washing water is becoming widespread. However, one of the problems encountered in the state of the art washing machines wherein filtering members are used is that the time required for passing the water through the filtering member to be filtered causes the washing process to be prolonged. Moreover, the fact that the filtering member quickly becomes full and requires frequent replacement or cleaning causes user dissatisfaction.
In the state of the art European Patent Application No. EP2123821, a household appliance is disclosed, comprising a filtering unit wherein the water coming from the washing tub is filtered before being discharged.. The aim of the present invention is the realization of a washing machine wherein the filtering member is efficiently used.
The washing machine of the present invention realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention, explicated in the first claim and the respective claims thereof, comprises a housing which is provided on the body, which opens into the tub and wherein a dispenser for loading detergent and a filtering member for filtering the water delivered thereof are arranged; a conveying line which opens into the tub and which conveys the water taken from inside the tub; a supply line which transfers the water taken from the conveying line to the filtering member; at least one valve which is provided on the conveying line and which is used for controlling the delivery of the water coming from the conveying line to the supply line; and a control unit which detects the washing program selected by the user by means of a program selection controller and which controls the operation of the valve depending on the selected washing program. At least one washing program wherein the water is sent to the filtering member to be filtered is predefined on the control unit. When a washing program wherein the water is filtered is selected by the user by means of the program selection controller, the control unit controls the valve such that the supply line is opened at least once during the washing program and the water in the circulation line is sent to the filtering member. Thus, the accumulation of particles which are not preferred to be retained by the filtering member is decreased, increasing the economic life of the filtering member.
In an embodiment of the present invention, upon detecting that a washing program predetermined by the producer as suitable for the washing of synthetic laundry is selected, the control unit controls the valve such that the supply line is opened at least once during the washing program. By opening the supply line, the water containing fibers and microplastic particles breaking off from the synthetic laundry is enabled to be sent to the filtering member to be filtered. Thus, especially fibers and plastic particles are enabled to be filtered by the filtering member.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the control unit opens the valve in the direction of the supply line at a discharge step of the selected washing program wherein the washing water in the tub is discharged from the washing machine. Thus, the water is supplied to the filtering member only at the discharge step, preventing the duration of the washing program from prolonging.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the washing machine comprises a bypass line with one end connected to the circulation line and the other end opening into the housing, which enables the water taken from the circulation line to be directly supplied to the housing. Depending on the selected washing program, the control unit controls the valve so as to send the water coming from the circulation line to the supply line or the bypass line. Thus, the supply line is bypassed at washing or rinsing steps of the washing program or when a washing program such as tub cleaning program which does not require the filtering of the water is selected, preventing the duration of the washing process from prolonging.
In another embodiment of the present invention, upon detecting that a washing program predetermined by the producer as suitable for the washing of natural fiber laundry is selected, the control unit controls the valve such that the bypass line is opened at least once during the washing program. Thus, the accumulation on the filtering member of natural fibers which are not preferred to be retained is decreased.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the washing machine comprises a circulation line with one end opening into the conveying line and the other end into the drum, and the control unit controls the valve such that the water in the conveying line is sent first to the circulation line and then to the supply line. The water delivered onto the laundry from the circulation line ensures that fibers and particles remaining on the laundry are swept. Thus, the filtering performance is improved.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the washing machine comprises a discharge line which receives the water filtered through the filtering member via an outlet opening positioned on the housing so as to be aligned with the filtering member, and which discharges said water from the body. Thus, the filtered water is discharged without being sent back to the tub. Consequently, the laundry is prevented from getting wet, ensuring a quick discharge.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the bypass line opens into the housing so as to be aligned with the outlet opening. Thus, the water coming from the bypass line is discharged without being sent to the tub.
The washing machine realized in order to attain the aim of the present invention is illustrated in the attached figures, where: Figure 1 - is the schematic view of the washing machine related to an embodiment of the present invention.

Discharge line The washing machine (1) comprises a body (2); a drum (3) wherein the laundry to be washed is loaded; a tub (4) wherein the washing process is performed; a housing (6) which is provided in the body (2), which opens into the tub (4) by means of a delivery line (10) and which receives a dispenser (5) suitable for loading cleaning agents therein; a filtering member (7) which is disposed into the housing (6) and which filters the water supplied thereon; a conveying line (8) which conveys the water taken from the tub (4); a supply line (9) which extends between the conveying line (8) and the filtering member (7) and which provides the delivery of the water coming from the conveying line (8) to the filtering member (7) to be filtered; a program selection controller (11) which provides the selection of one among a plurality of washing programs. The filtering member (7) is disposed into the housing (6) so as to be positioned behind the dispenser (5). One end of the supply line (9) opens into the filtering member (7) while the other end thereof is connected to the conveying line (8) which is connected to the tub (4). The program selection controller (11) enables the user to select one among a plurality of washing programs such as cotton washing program, wool washing program, mixed washing program, synthetic washing program, tub cleaning program, etc.
The washing machine (1) of the present invention comprises at least one valve (100, 101, 102, 103) which delivers the water in the conveying line (8) to be the supply line (9) selectively, and a control unit (12) which detects the washing program selected by means of the program selection controller (11) and which controls the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) according to the selected washing program. The valve (100, 101, 102, 103) is suitable for controlling the flow between the conveying line (8) and the supply line (9). According to the selected washing program, the control unit (12) operates the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) such that the water is delivered to the supply line (9) during the washing program or such that the water in the conveying line (8) is delivered to the supply line (9) in a predetermined step of the washing program such as washing step, rinsing step, discharge step, etc. Thus, the water taken from the tub (4) is selectively filtered in case a washing program predetermined by the producer is selected. Thus, the filtering member (7) is prevented from becoming full in a short time, and the duration of the washing programs is optimized. In an embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (12) controls the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) such that the water in the conveying line (8) is supplied to the supply line (9) in case a predetermined washing program suitable for washing synthetic laundry is selected. At least one predetermined washing program such as synthetic washing program suitable for washing synthetic laundry, mixed laundry washing program, etc. is defined in the control unit (12) and can be selected by means of the program selection controller (11). When the user selects a washing program suitable for washing synthetic laundry, the control unit (12) controls the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) such that the water in the conveying line (8) is supplied to the supply line (9) at least at one step of the selected program. Thus, the fibers breaking off from the synthetic laundry are filtered and retained by the filtering member (7). Thus, almost all of the fibers and particles breaking off from the laundry are filtered by the filtering member (7).
In another embodiment of the present invention, the washing machine (1) comprises an outlet opening (15) which is provided on the housing (6) and through which the filtered water leaving the filtering member (7) is taken, and a discharge line (16) which is connected to the outlet opening (15) and which discharges the water taken through the outlet opening (15) out of the body (2). The outlet opening (15) is positioned under the filtering member (7). The filtered water leaving the filtering member (7) flows into the discharge line (16) through the outlet opening (15). Thus, the filtered water is directly discharged, preventing the duration of the washing program from prolonging and providing hygiene. In another embodiment of the present invention, the washing machine (1) comprises a bypass line (13) which extends between the conveying line (8) and the housing (6) and which delivers the water coming from the conveying line (8) to the housing, and the control unit (12) controls the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) such that the water in the conveying line (8) is supplied to the bypass line (13) according to the selected washing program. The bypass line (13) supplies the water coming from the conveying line (8) directly to the housing (6) without passing through the filtering member (7). When the user selects a program suitable for the laundry to be washed by means of the program selection controller (11), the control unit (12) operates the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) so as to provide a flow between the bypass line (13) and the supply line (9) at a predetermined step of the selected washing program. The bypass line (13) supplies the water directly to the housing (6) without passing through the filtering member (7). Thus, in the washing programs or the washing program steps wherein the water taken from the tub (4) is not preferred to be passed through the filtering member (7), the filtering member (7) is bypassed, and the water is enabled to be supplied to the housing (6) to be discharged through the discharge line (16) or to be sent back to the tub (4) through the delivery line (10).
In another embodiment of the present invention, the control unit (12) controls the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) such that the water in the conveying line (8) is supplied to the bypass line (13) in case a predetermined washing program suitable for washing non-synthetic laundry is selected. At least one predetermined washing program such as cotton washing program, or wool washing program, etc. suitable for washing non-synthetic laundry such as cotton, wool, etc. is defined in the control unit (12) and can be selected by means of the program selection controller (11). When the user selects a washing program suitable for washing non-synthetic laundry, the control unit (12) controls the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) such that the water in the conveying line (8) is supplied to the bypass line (13) at least at one step of the selected program, preferably at the discharge step, and the water taken from the tub (4) is delivered to the housing (6) without being filtered. Thus, the accumulation of fibers breaking off from non- synthetic laundry such as cotton, wool, etc. which are not preferred to be filtered is decreased, preventing the filtering member (7) from quickly becoming full. In another embodiment of the present invention, the bypass lien (13) opens into the outlet opening (15). One end of the bypass line (13) is connected to the conveying line (8) while the other end thereof opens into the housing (6) so as to face the outlet opening (15). Thus, the unfiltered water taken from the bypass line (13) can be directly discharged through the discharge line (16).
In another embodiment of the present invention, the washing machine (1) comprises a circulation line (14) which is connected to the conveying line (8) and which supplies the water taken from the conveying line (8) onto the laundry in the drum (3), and the control unit (12) controls the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) such that the water in the conveying line (8) is first supplied to the circulation line (14) and then to the supply line (9). One end of the circulation line (14) is connected to the conveying line (8) while the other end thereof opens to an upper region of the tub (4) such that the water taken from the conveying line (8) is delivered onto the laundry in the drum (3). The control unit (12) controls the valve (100, 101, 102, 103) such that during the selected washing program, the water taken from the tub (4) is delivered onto the laundry in the drum (3) by opening the circulation line (14) before being delivered to the filtering member (7) by opening the supply line (9). Thus, fibers and particles remaining on the laundry are swept by the water delivered through the circulation line (14), and then the water containing fibers and particles is delivered to the filtering member (7). This embodiment is advantageous in that a higher amount of fibers and particles can be collected from the laundry at one go, decreasing the time required for filtering the water.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the washing machine (1) comprises a three-outlet valve (101) having an inlet connected to the conveying line (8) and three outlets connected to the supply line (9), the bypass line (13) and the circulation line (14). Thus, the supply line (9), the circulation line (14) and the bypass line (13) are controlled by a single valve (101), providing ease of application and cost advantage.
In another embodiment of the present invention, the washing machine (1) comprises a two-outlet valve (102) having an inlet connected to the conveying line (8) and two outlets connected to the supply line (9) and the bypass line (13), and a single-outlet valve (103) having an inlet connected to the conveying line (8) and connected to the circulation line (14). The two-outlet valve (102) is preferably a check valve. Thus, especially, as the capacity of the filtering member (7) gradually decreases, the water is prevented from returning through the supply line (9) due to the pressure of the water. This embodiment is advantageous in that various types of valves (102, 103) can be used. By means of the present invention, the water taken from the tub (4) is supplied to the filtering member (7) in a controlled manner, ensuring selective filtration. Thus, the economic life of the filtering member (7) is prolonged, and the water taken from the tub (4) is filtered in optimal time.
