Definitions

  • the invention relates to a hip implant system.
  • Hip implant systems are now routinely used to replace injured or worn hip joints.
  • corresponding hip implant systems usually have an artificial hip socket insert, for example made of plastic, ceramic or a metal alloy, that can be inserted directly into the artificial hip socket.
  • Metallic hip socket inserts are often made of a metal alloy containing cobalt and/or chromium.
  • an artificial hip joint insert that can be inserted directly into the artificial hip socket insert and optionally an artificial joint head that can be inserted into the hip joint insert with or without an artificial hip stem can be provided.
  • micro-movements can often occur between the artificial acetabulum and the artificial acetabular insert due to dynamic loads.
  • the problem is that these micro-movements can cause friction corrosion, i.e. so-called fretting, which can release cobalt and/or chromium ions into the surrounding patient tissue in the case of an artificial acetabular insert made of a metal alloy containing cobalt and/or chromium.
  • cobalt and/or chromium ions can generally be released through wear of the acetabular insert. The in vivo release of cobalt and/or chromium ions can in turn lead to allergic and/or toxic tissue reactions, which increases the risk of surgical revision.
  • EP0445068 A1 discloses an artificial hip joint socket consisting of a metallic outer shell with anchoring aids and a metallic inner shell for accommodating a joint ball head.
  • the outer shell can be made of titanium and the inner shell of a cobalt alloy.
  • the invention is based on the object of providing a hip implant system which partially or completely avoids the disadvantages described above in connection with generic hip implant systems, in particular reduces or even completely prevents an in vivo release of cobalt and/or chromium ions.
  • hip implant system with the features of independent claim 1.
  • Preferred embodiments of the hip implant system are the subject of the dependent claims and the description. The wording of all Claims are hereby made by express reference to the contents of the description.
  • the invention relates to a hip implant system.
  • the hip implant system has an artificial hip socket and an artificial hip socket insert.
  • the artificial hip socket insert has a metal or an alloy, preferably a cobalt and/or chromium-containing alloy, or consists of a metal or an alloy, preferably a cobalt and/or chromium-containing alloy.
  • the artificial hip socket insert can expediently be inserted into the artificial hip socket.
  • the hip implant system according to the present invention is particularly characterized in that the artificial hip socket insert is coated at least in sections, in particular only in sections or completely, with a ceramic coating, wherein the ceramic coating comprises chromium nitride, chromium carbonitride and zirconium nitride.
  • hip implant system in the context of the present invention is to be understood as a set of individual components, whereby the components can be assembled or joined, in particular in a modular manner, to form a hip implant for replacing or partially replacing a natural hip joint, in particular during a surgical procedure.
  • the set has as components at least one artificial hip socket according to the invention and one artificial hip socket insert according to the invention.
  • the set can have further components, in particular as described in more detail below.
  • ceramic coating is to be understood as meaning a coating which comprises a ceramic, in particular hard ceramic, or which consists of a ceramic, in particular hard ceramic.
  • the invention is based in particular on the surprising finding that an in vivo release of harmful metal ions, in particular cobalt and/or chromium ions, on contact surfaces of modularly joined hip implant components can be (significantly) reduced or even completely avoided by coating at least sections with a ceramic material.
  • the artificial hip socket preferably has a receiving area that is at least partially concave, in particular only partially or completely concave, for receiving the artificial hip socket insert.
  • the receiving area that is at least partially concave preferably has an at least partially concave, in particular only partially or completely concave, inner surface of the artificial hip socket.
