Description

SUCTION ROLL OF A SHEET OR WEB OF PAPER OF INSPECTABLE
TYPE
DESCRIPTION Field of the invention
The present invention relates to the technical field of paper converting, and related products, and, in particular, relates to a suction roll, such as an advancing roll, a cutting roll, a folding, or interfolding roll of a machine for interfolding a web, or sheet of paper, of the type provided with suction holes, which connected to a vacuum system, allows the sheet, or web, of paper to adhere on the surface of the same.
Description of the prior art As it is known, many machines are used in the paper industry, for example winding, interfolding, and folding machines which are equipped with systems for causing the processed web, or sheet of paper, to adhere on the surface of the rolls, in determined operative steps, in such a way to feed the sheets of webs of paper along a desired path.
In particular, these systems are used to carry out the fundamental operations of cutting the paper, or transferring very quickly the paper same from a roll to another one, or also to fold the paper. In the last years in the field of paper converting machines, suction rolls have become widely used provided with pneumatic systems for causing the suction of the processed sheet or web of paper and the adhesion of the same on a determined portion of the external lateral surface of the suction roll. More precisely, as for example described in EP1449799, or in EP2514698, the aforementioned suction systems provide a device for generating a determined vacuum degree, that is pneumatically connected with the inside of the suction rolls. More precisely, a suction roll of this type comprises a movable tubular body arranged to rotate about a longitudinal rotational axis and a fixed tubular body coaxially arranged with respect to the movable tubular body. The surface of the movable tubular body is provided with a determined number of couples of longitudinal rows of suction holes, generally 3, or 4, couples of rows of holes. Between the movable tubular body and the fixed tubular body a vacuum distribution device is provided comprising a first and a second sealing member, or gasket, which extend longitudinally to the suction roll at two different angular positions. In this way, during rotation of the movable tubular body with respect to the fixed tubular body, the aforementioned rows of holes are selectively put in pneumatic communication with the aforementioned vacuum generation device by the aforementioned vacuum distribution device. More precisely, only the holes of the movable roll arranged in a determined instant between two sealing members will exert a suction action on the processed sheet, or web, of paper, causing the same to adhere on the corresponding portion of the external lateral surface of the suction roll.
However, these typologies of suction rolls have some drawbacks.
In particular, during the functioning of the suction rolls, dust and fragments of materials, in particular paper, that are present in the environment around the suction roll or products, in particular, during the different working steps of the sheets, or webs of paper processed by the converting machine, are unavoidably sucked by the suction system and can, over time, cause at least a partial obstruction both of the suction holes and the pipes which connect the device for generating vacuum with the vacuum distribution device, thus causing a loss of effectiveness of the suction system which unavoidably means a loss of quality of the final product. Therefore, the suction rolls of known type need to be periodically subjected to maintenance operations for cleaning the various parts of which they are constituted. The maintenance operations provide to disassemble all the connections keeping together the roll, normally bolt connections. Then, in order to reach the different parts of the suction roll to subject to maintenance and, in particular, the fixed tubular body, and the internal lateral surface of the movable tubular body, this latter is mounted on a crane and placed at a certain height from the ground. Once that the different parts of the suction roll have been cleaned, the movable tubular body is positioned again around the fixed tubular body and the components are reassembled.
A similar procedure is also carried out for operations of ordinary maintenance that are scheduled periodically for replacing the sealing elements. These, in fact, due to the friction generated during rotation by the sliding of the movable tubular body around its longitudinal axis against the internal lateral surface of the movable tubular body, are subject, over time, to wear. In light of the above, the maintenance operations of a suction roll are complex and require a lot of skilled labour, and, therefore of costs, and time, both in the case of operations for cleaning the various parts of the suction roll, and those for replacing the sealing elements.
A suction folding roll of prior art for folding continuous webs of paper having the drawbacks disclosed above is, for example, described in CN102431833. The suction roll is provided with a series of row of suction holes which are selectively put in pneumatic communication with a vacuum generation system through a series of suction channels which extend longitudinally to the roll. Furthermore, closures are also provided at which the suction holes are made and that are arranged to close the aforementioned suction channels. Sealing members are furthermore provided that extend longitudinally to the roll along substantially radial directions. The sealing members delimit suction chambers in such a way to put in pneumatic communication with the vacuum generation system only the holes arranged at determined portions of the roll. In this way, it is possible to selectively and alternately suck the web of paper by two folding rolls of a folding roll to provide a series of folds on the same. However, the sealing members described in CN102431833 to ensure the necessary seal must have a width greater than the suction channels. As diagrammatically shown in figure 1, a suction roll 1, according to the invention, of the type used for feeding a web, or sheet of paper along an advancing direction in a machine for converting paper, or similar products, comprises a movable tubular body 10, in particular cylindrical-shaped, configured to rotate about a longitudinal rotational axis 101. The movable tubular body 10 is provided with an external lateral surface 11 and with an internal lateral surface 12 in pneumatic communication through a plurality of suction holes 3 organized according to a predetermined number of longitudinal rows 30. For example, the longitudinal rows 30 of holes 3 can be distributed on the movable tubular body 10, in such a way to have a predetermined number of couple of longitudinal rows 30a and 30b close to each other. According to other embodiments of the invention, the longitudinal rows 30 of suction holes 3 close to each other can be more than two, for example three, or four, according to the type of machine, its configuration and its performance. The suction roll 1, furthermore, comprises a fixed tubular body 20, in particular cylindrical-shaped, positioned within the movable tubular body 10, in particular coaxially to the same. The fixed tubular body 20 has an external lateral surface 21 and an internal lateral surface 22 delimiting a longitudinal cavity 24. More precisely, the longitudinal cavity 24 is pneumatically connected to a suction device, not shown in the figures for reasons of simplicity, configured to produce a predetermined vacuum degree. The suction roll 1 comprises, furthermore, a first sealing member 23a and at least a second sealing member 23b configured to extend longitudinally between the internal lateral surface 11 of the movable tubular body 10 and the external lateral surface 21 of the fixed tubular body 20. More precisely, the first and the second sealing members 23a and 23b extend longitudinally to the main body 10 at respective angular positions. The first sealing member 23a and the second sealing member 23b, together with the portion of the internal lateral surface of the movable tubular body 10 and the portion of external lateral surface of the fixed tubular body 20 positioned between them, define a suction chamber 25 in communication with the aforementioned longitudinal cavity 24. In particular, the aforementioned sealing members 23a and 23b can comprise a lot of portions of different length or not, arranged, in use, adjacent to each other along the same longitudinal direction.
More precisely, during rotation of the movable tubular body 10 about the rotation axis 101, the aforementioned suction chamber 25 is arranged to selectively put in pneumatic communication the aforementioned longitudinal cavity 24 with at least a row 30 of suction holes 3 of the aforementioned plurality. In this way, it is possible to cause the processed sheet, or web of paper to be sucked, only at the portions 11' of the external lateral surface 11 of the suction roll 1 arranged at the suction chamber 25. According to the present invention, the movable tubular body 10 comprises a main portion 10a and at least a removable portion 10b configured to removably engage with each other in such a way to move between an assembled configuration, in which the, or each, removable portion 10b is engaged with the main portion 10a (figures 1 and 3), and a disassembled configuration, in which the, or each, removable portion 10b is disengaged from the main portion 10a therefore, the first and/or the second sealing member 23a and 23b, positioned at the removable portion 10b can be reached from the outside (figures 4 and 5). The technical solution according to the invention allows to quickly disassemble the, or each, removable portion 10b in order to reach the first, or the second longitudinal sealing member 23a, or 23b and to provide to replace the same during a intervention of ordinary, or extraordinary maintenance. More in particular, the, or each, removable portion 10b can have a first surface lib positioned flush with the external lateral surface 11 of the main body 10. More in detail, the first surface lib of the removable portion 10b and the external lateral surface 11 of the main body 10 have the same geometry, in particular the same radius of curvature, in such a way that in the aforementioned assembled configuration the main body 10, as a whole, does not have significant geometric discontinuities.
In particular, the, or each, removable portion 10b can have, at least for a part of its width, a thickness equal to the thickness of the movable tubular body 10.
As diagrammatically shown in the figures 4 and 5, the main portion 10a is provided with at least a longitudinal seat 15 configured to house, in the aforementioned assembled configuration, the, or each, removable portion 10b. In particular, the, or each longitudinal seat 15 is provided with at least an opening 17, preferably an opening, which extends along a direction longitudinal to the movable tubular body 10. Advantageously, the, or each, opening 17 has a width equal to, or greater than the width of the first sealing member and/or the second sealing member 23b positioned at the respective longitudinal seat 15. In this way, through the aforementioned opening 17 having a width, in particular equal to, or greater than the width of each sealing member 23a, or 23b, during an intervention of ordinary, or extraordinary maintenance, it is possible to reach the sealing member 23a, or 23b and to extract the same from the suction roll 1 through the opening 17, in particular in order to replace the same with a new sealing member again through the opening 17 same. According to an embodiment of the invention, the, or each opening 17 can have a depth equal to the thickness of the movable tubular body 10.
As diagrammatically shown in the figures 5 and 6, the, or each, longitudinal seat 15 can be provided with a base surface 16 provided with the aforementioned opening 17. Furthermore, still with reference to the figures 5 and 6, at least a fixing element of removable type can be provided configured to firmly engage the, or each, removable portion 10b with the main portion 10a in the assembled configuration. For example, screws 40 can be provided arranged to engage respective holes 41 provided in the body of the removable portion 10b. In this way, it is assured that during the operative conditions of the suction roll 1, the removable portion 10b remains in the correct position with respect to the main portion 10a. Anyway also different solutions are provided by the invention, for example, each removable portion 10b and the respective longitudinal seat 15 can be configured to provide a shape coupling. According to a further alternative embodiment, not shown for simplicity, fixing elements can be provided arranged to act from one side with respect to the removable portion 10b.
In particular, the second surface 12b, opposite to the first surface lib, of the, or each, removable portion 10b can be configured in such a way to close, in the aforementioned assembled configuration, the opening 17. More in particular, the aforementioned second surface 12b can have, at least for a part of its width, the same radius of curvature of the aforementioned internal lateral surface 12 of the first main body 10, more precisely the same radius of curvature of the adjacent portion. In this way, during the operative conditions, it is avoided that the sealing members 23a and 23b are subjected to excessive wear, as well as the risk of jamming the machines that would render necessary to stop the machine to solve the malfunctioning.
In the alternative embodiment diagrammatically shown in the transverse section of the figures 5 and 6 and in the perspective views of the figures from 7 to 8, the longitudinal seat 15 can have a base surface 16 provided with the, or each, opening 17.
In the alternative embodiment of figure 8, the, or each, opening 17 can be associated to a respective closing member 18 configured to removably engage the main body 10a at the aforementioned opening 17. In particular, the closing member 18 is arranged to move from a closing position in the aforementioned assembled configuration (figure 8), in which it is not possible to reach the first sealing member 23a and/or the second sealing member 23b from the outside, to an opening position in order to allow to reach the first and/or the second sealing member 23a, or 23b through the opening 17. In the assembled configuration, the closing member 18 is, advantageously, positioned below the removable portion 10b. According to a possible embodiment, the closing member 18 can be maintained in position by the removable portion 10b. In particular, the whole thickness of the closing member 18 and the removable portion 10b to which is associated is overall equal to the thickness of the movable tubular body 10. More in particular, the closing member 18 has an upper surface 18a and a lower surface 18b opposite to each other. The aforementioned lower surface 18b is, advantageously, arranged, in operating conditions, flush with the internal lateral surface 12 of the movable tubular body 10. More precisely, the aforementioned lower surface 18b can have the same radius of curvature of the internal lateral surface 12 of the movable tubular body 10.
According to the embodiment which is diagrammatically shown in the figures 10 and 11, supplementary fixing members, for example screws 42, can be provided arranged to fix the closing member 18, to the first main body 10 of the suction roll 1.
Although, in the embodiment diagrammatically shown in the figures 1 and from 7 to 9, the aforementioned removable portion 10b is shown as having a length lb less than the length L of the movable tubular body 10, however the possibility is also provided that the removable portion 10b can be extended for the whole length L of the movable tubular body 10, preferably lb=L (figure 12).
In the figures 13 and 14 are diagrammatically shown other embodiments of the present invention. More precisely, in the embodiment diagrammatically shown in figure 13 a first, a second and a third removable portion 10b, 10'b and 10"b are provided arranged to engage respective longitudinal seats 15, 15' and 15" oriented along the same longitudinal direction with respect to the movable tubular body 10. In this way, , once that the closing members 18, 18' and 18", if present, have been removed, when the removable portions 10b, 10'b and 10"b are arranged in the disassembled configuration show different portions of the same sealing member 23a, or 23b.
According to a further embodiment, diagrammatically shown in figure 14, the plurality of removable portions arranged in the assembled configuration along the same longitudinal direction, can have a total length shorter than the length of the sealing member 23a, or 23b. In other words, only a first and a second removable portion 10b, and 10'b can be provided that in the assembled configuration are positioned along the same longitudinal direction.
In general, therefore, the total length of the removable portions 10b arranged along the same longitudinal direction can be equal to, or substantially equal to the length L of the movable tubular body 10
(figure 13), or shorter than the same (figure 14).
According to further embodiments diagrammatically shown in the figures 15 and 16, the suction roll 1, according to the invention, can be a folding, or interfolding, roll, of the type used in the folding, or interfolding machine for folding, or interfolding sheets or webs of paper. As known, the main difference with respect to a suction roll 1 of common type is, in particular, that the movable tubular body 10 is provided with a plurality of circumferential grooves 19 whose function is known and it is, therefore, considered not to be necessary to explain in deep for the present invention. In particular, in this case, therefore, also the, or each, removable portion 10b can be provided with at least a circumferential groove 19b, each of which having a radius of curvature equal to the radius of curvature 19a of the main portion 10a. More in particular, since in this case the external lateral surface of the main body 10a comprises portions having a greater radius of curvature alternating to portions having a smaller radius of curvature, also the, or each, removable portion 10b will have the same geometry and, therefore, portions with greater radius of curvature alternating to portions with smaller radius of curvature.
As diagrammatically shown in the figures 17 and 18, the movable tubular body 10 can be provided with at least a removable portion 10b at a first angular position and with at least a supplementary removable portion 10c at a second angular position different from the first one. More in particular, the, or each, removable portion 10b and the, or each, supplementary removable portion 10c can be positioned at an angular distance that is substantially equal to the angular distance existing between the first and the second sealing members 23a and 23b. In this way, it is possible to remove both the sealing members 23a and 23b without causing a relative rotation between the fixed tubular body 20 and the movable body 10, as, advantageously, happens instead for the solutions which provide one, or more removable portions 10b at the same angular position.
According to further embodiments diagrammatically shown in the figures 19 and 20, respectively in case of a common suction roll 1 and of a folding, or interfolding, roll, the, or each removable portion 10b is positioned at a portion of the suction roll 1 where no suction hole 3 is present.
As diagrammatically shown in the figures 21 and 22, each sealing member 23a, or 23b, can be constituted by a plurality of sealing members 23'a arranged adjacent to each other along a predetermined longitudinal direction. More in particular, each sealing portion 23'a of the aforementioned plurality can be configured to engage, advantageously by a shape coupling provided at respective engagement portions 26a and 26b, for example a dovetail joint, with a sealing portion 23'a adjacent to the same along the aforementioned predetermined longitudinal direction. In this way it is possible to extract a sealing portion positioned downstream simply pulling a sealing portion 23'a, positioned upstream along the aforementioned predetermined longitudinal direction. In other words, also in this case, can be therefore sufficient to provide one, or more removable portions 10b, or 10c, of a length shorter than the total length of the movable tubular body 10 in order to remove the sealing member 23a, or 23b.
However, it can be also provided that a sealing portion can be extracted by pushing a sealing portion positioned upstream along the aforementioned longitudinal direction. In this case at least a first and a second removable portion 10b and 10'b are provided(see figures 14 and 20), or even a greater number of removable portions (figure 13), or only one removable portion 10b with 2 or more closing members 18. It should be clarified that the skilled person in the art will have no difficulty to combine with each other the various embodiments of the invention diagrammatically shown in the figures from 1 to 20 in different way remaining within the scope of protection of the present invention.
The foregoing description exemplary embodiments of the invention will so fully reveal the invention according to the conceptual point of view, so that others, by applying current knowledge, will be able to modify and/or adapt for various applications such embodiment without further research and without parting from the invention, and, accordingly, it is therefore to be understood that such adaptations and modifications will have to be considered as equivalent to the specific embodiments.
