Definitions
- the invention relates to a kit of blanks for forming a package having a lid and a box shaped bottom.
- the invention also relates to a box blank for forming such a box shaped bottom and to a lid blank for forming such a lid of a package.
- the package should e.g. often be designed such that it makes efficient use of the material, is easy to transport to the point of use, is easy to prepare for use, and provides a strong structure. It should often be formed of a limited number of blanks. It is often desirable that it is strong during handling and stable in an erected state. Moreover, it should often be capable of being erected into a box and lid and be used as a box and lid without the use of adhesive or any other similar means of keeping the box and lid erected and/or closed, or at least with a minimum use of such adhesive or similar means.
- Packages made from cardboard are beneficial since they do not take up much space before they are erected, during for example transport. There exist numerous attempts to address the above design criteria in connection to designing a package of cardboard material.
- CN208813769 discloses a package forming a box.
- the box comprises a lid and a bottom, wherein the lid is foldably connected to the bottom.
- this box requires the use of a number of separate pieces, such as the strings connected to Velcro-patches attached to the lid and to the bottom, and the provision of one or more separate handles inside the box and/or lid. It may especially be noted that such small pieces are easily lost during transportation, which results in that the package does not work properly.
- kit of blanks for forming a package having a lid and a box shaped bottom comprising: a lid blank for forming the lid of the package, the lid blank comprising: a centre panel, two opposing longitudinal rim portions arranged on two opposite longitudinally extending sides of the centre panel, wherein each rim portion comprises a plurality of rim panels arranged one after another along a transverse direction, the rim panels being foldably connected to the centre panel and relative to each other by longitudinally extending fold lines and being configured to form two opposing, longitudinally extending double-walled rim portions, wherein the plurality of rim panels of one of the opposing rim portions comprises an integrally formed handle, the handle being positioned among the plurality of rim panels such that there are three rim panels between the handle and the centre panel and such that the handle, when the lid blank is erected to form a lid, in a first position extends along an inside of the centre panel, wherein among the plurality of rim panels of
- a kit of blanks for a package having a lid and a box shaped bottom.
- the lid is configured to be placed onto the box shaped bottom and be kept in place by the locking flaps of the box blank being configured to be removably insertable into the locking recesses of the lid blank when the lid blank has been erected to form a lid and is placed onto the bottom.
- a kit of blanks for a package having an integrated handle.
- each rim portion may comprise the plurality of rim panels in order to form the double-walled rim portions
- the double-walled rim portions also facilitate the provision of the cut-outs to be formed and hence, for the locking recesses to be present.

- this type of locking mechanism there is provided a package which is easy to close, and which is easy to lock.
- the lid blank where one of the opposing rim portions may comprise the integrally formed handle together with the double-walled rim portions, it is made possible to carry the package as it is without any need of any carrying bag.
- the double-walled rim portions and the opposing rim portion, which may comprise the handle, together facilitates the provision of a stable handle.
- the locking mechanism is configured to keep the lid in place when the package is carried by using the handle.
- the locking mechanism and the handle facilitate the provision of a package which is easy to carry without any need of using a separate carrying bag.
- a lid which is easy to erect, and which is easy to erect in a correct way.
- a box shaped bottom which is easy to erect, and which is easy to erect in the correct way.
- the package may be used as a standard package, e.g., standing in shelves stacked on top of each other or the like.
- the package may also be used as a carrying package similarly to how a carrying bag is used.
- the package may be any type of package, but according to one non-limiting example the package may be a shoe box.
- the shoe box may be placed on a shelf in a shoe store and when the customer wants to buy the shoes and take the shoe box from the store, the shoe box is easy to carry without any need of a carrying bag.
- the rim panel having the integrated handle can be folded 90° backwards and then the handle may be continued to be folded another 90° backwards such that the handle is pointing out from the lid.
- At least one of, preferably both of, the side wall panels of the box blank is provided with a central portion having a cut-out from a top edge of the side wall panel downwards a distance corresponding to a height of the longitudinally extending double-walled rim portions such that the handle in its second position extends out of the package between a lower edge of the double-walled rim portion and an upper edge of said cut-out in the central portion of the side wall panel.
- the lid can be placed onto the box shaped bottom in a first orientation, but it can also be rotated 180° and still fit onto the box shaped bottom in a second orientation. Since the cut-out corresponds to the height of the longitudinally extending double-walled rim portions, the cut-out may be hidden when the lid is placed onto the box shaped bottom.
- the rim panels on the side comprising the handle will be folded relative to the centre panel such that the first rim panel is folded about 90° in a first direction; which typically will be referred to as downwardly; the second rim panel is folded about 180° relative to the first rim panel such that the second rim panel extends from the fold with the first rim panel in a second direction; being opposite to the first direction; the second direction typically being referred to as upwardly; the third rim panel is folded about 180° relative to the second rim panel such that the third rim panel extends from the fold with the second rim panel in a third direction; being opposite to the second direction; the third direction being about the same as the first direction; the third direction typically being referred to as downwardly.
- the three rim panels will be folded as that they in cross- sectional view form a shape essentially looking as an N.
- the side wall of the box may thereby be positioned between the second and third rim panels such that the locking flaps may be removably insertable into the associated locking recess of the second rim panel.
- the lid blank may further comprise two opposing lid end wall panels, wherein each may be foldably connected to the centre panel by fold lines extending in the transverse direction, each lid end wall panel may comprise, on each opposite longitudinal side of the lid end wall panel, a lid locking flap configured to be positioned between the rim panels of the longitudinally extending double-walled rim portions when the lid blank has been erected to form the lid.
- the two opposing lid end wall panels may be configured to be kept in place by the lid locking flaps. Positioning of the lid locking flaps between the rim panels of the longitudinally extended double-walled rim portions may facilitate provision of a stable lid. By the lid locking flaps that may be positioned between the rim panels, the lid may be held in place when in erected state.
- Each box end wall panel may have an end locking flap foldably connected to a transversal side of the box end wall panel opposing the floor panel, and wherein the respective locking flap may be configured to be folded inwardly and extend alongside an inside of the respective box end wall panel when the box blank has been erected to form the box shaped bottom.
- Each side wall panel of the box blank may comprise a corner flap on each opposing side thereof, the corner flaps may be foldably connected to the respective side wall panel along fold lines extending in the transverse direction, wherein each comer flap may be configured to be folded to extend alongside the inside of the respective box end wall panel and the end locking flaps of the box end wall panels may be configured to be folded over the respective corner flaps, thereby locking the box shaped bottom of the package in the erected state.

- the cut-out 320 extends from a top edge of the side wall panel 304 downwards a distance corresponding to a height of the longitudinally extending double-walled rim portions 224.
- the handle 210 When the handle 210 is in its second position P2, the handle 210 extends out of the package between a lower edge of the double-walled rim portion 224 and an upper edge of said cut-out in the central portion of the side wall panel 304.
- the lid blank 200 is erected to form the lid 102.
- the box blank 300 is erected to form the box shaped bottom 104.
- the lid 102 is configured to be placed onto the box shaped bottom 104 in order to form the package.
- the respective locking flap 308 of the box blank 300 is configured to be removably insertable into the associated locking recess 212 of the lid blank 200. Thereby, by removably inserting the respective locking flap 308 in the associated locking recess 212, the lid 102 and the box shaped bottom 104 are locked together to form a closed package.
- the handle 210 When the lid 102 is placed onto the box shaped bottom 104, the handle 210 is configured such that it is selectively positioned in the first position P1 (as illustrated in figure 4A) or in a second position P2 (as illustrated in figures 1 and 4B). In the second position P2, the handle 210 is folded outwards from the closed package such as to form a handle 210 for carrying the package 100.
- the centre panel 202 of the lid blank 200 and the floor panel 302 of the box blank 300 have the same dimensions. It is preferred that the two opposing longitudinal rim portions 204 and the two opposing side wall panels 304 are of the same length. In a preferred embodiment, the two opposing longitudinal rim portions 204 and the two opposing side wall panels 304 are of the same length as the longitudinally extending sides of the centre panel 202 and as the longitudinally extending sides of the floor panel 302. It is preferred that the two opposing lid end wall panels 214 and the two opposing box end wall panels 310 are of the same length.
- the two opposing lid end wall panels 214 and the two opposing box end wall panels 310 are of the same length as the transversal extending sides of the centre panel 202 and as the transversal extending sides of the floor panel 302.
- the lid 102 and the box shaped bottom 104 are of the same dimensions except the height. This facilitates provision of a package where it is easy to place the lid 102 onto the box shaped bottom 104 in a correct way and wherein the lid 102 and the box shaped bottom 104 fit to each other in a correct way.
