Abstract

A roller screen comprising two side rails with a track and a further track, two extension elements with a track and a further track, and a set of connection elements that comprise at least one marking. Wherein the set of connection elements comprises a connection insert adapted to be arranged in the further track of the respective side rail and the further track of the respective extension element, in such a way that the at least one opening of the side rail and/or the opening of the extension element is/are arranged in a first position to overlap the corresponding at least one marking of the connection insert. A fastening element is configured to engage with the corresponding marking. When the fastening element is tightened, the extension element and the side rail are pulled towards each other from the first position to a second position in which the respective facing ends are substantially brought into abutment with each other.

Technical Field The invention relates to a roller screen according to the preamble of claim 1.
Background Art
In roller screens the side rails positioned at the sides of the building aperture or window serve i.a. the purpose of improving the tightening proper ties and keep the screening body in position.
The fact that windows come in a number of different sizes entails that screening arrangements including roller screens are traditionally delivered in a corresponding range of sizes. Even a window, which at first sight appears to be of identical size and model as another window, might require a particular size roller screen different from that of the other window, just as there is a risk that the purchaser does not know exactly which type of window he or she is buying for.
In the prior art, several attempts have been made in order to alleviate this problem. One example is described in Applicant’s earlier published inter national application No. WO 2006/039926 A1 , in which adjusting means in cluding extension members for connection to the side rail is suggested along with further adjusting means for adapting the screening arrangement to the particular installation situation. However, although well-functioning, the pres- ence of an extension member inevitably entails a joint, which regardless of the accuracy with which the joint is carried out is visible. This is not satisfacto ry in all fields of application. Even more important, the joint may impair the operation of the screening arrangement, as elements for steering the exten sion member relative to the actual side rail are practically indispensable. Thus, there is a desire to propose an improved roller screen of the type mentioned by way of introduction, with which the above drawbacks are more fully alleviated. Summary of Invention
It is therefore the object of the invention to provide a roller screen by which the installation conditions are improved. This and other objects are achieved by means of a roller screen of the type mentioned by way of introduction and further characterised by the features of claim 1.
The wording “excentrically” should, within the context of this application, be construed as a placement difference (Dc) of the centre of two openings that may accommodate the same fastening element.
In this way, an easy solution for installing a roller screen has been found in providing a set of connection elements, including a connection insert, that with fastening means may provide for suitable connection two different end of a rail. This presents a simple, yet reliable solution. In particular as regards the connection element and the end of a rail, this involves mutual engagement between two rails and the connection element located inside the end of a rail in a mounted state. In this way the connection is invisible, and the connection insert is hidden inside the tracks.
Preferably each connection insert comprises two markings and is configured to be arranged in each of the further track of each side railand the further track. The markings provide a visible and/or tactile indication of the position, which facilitates easy operation and mounting.
In a presently preferred embodiment, at least one of the at least one opening of the side rail and/or the extension element is provided with a connection piece of the connection insert and said at least one opening, the side rail and/or the extension element being preferably provided with a stop for said connection piece to ensure that a sufficient length of the connection piece protrudes from the side rail and/or the extension element. This configuration ensures a logical and fail-safe connection process. Preferably, the excentricity between the marking of the connection insert and the at least one opening of the side rail and/or the extension element lies in the range 1 to 5 mm. In this way, the side rail and the extension element are able to be pulled together from a slight gap.
A particularly easy connection process is achieved in an embodiment in which each marking of the connection insert comprises an opening. A tool may be inserted in the opening to facilitate the pulling action.
In a presently preferred embodiment, each fastening element comprises an inclined surface configured to engage with an edge of the respective opening of the side rail and/or the respective opening of the extension element. By this design, a gradual force is obtained in a simple way.
Other presently preferred embodiments and further advantages will be apparent from the subsequent detailed description and drawings.
A feature described in relation to one of the aspect may also be incorporated in the other aspect, and the advantage of the feature is applicable to all aspects in which it is incorporated.
However, it should be understood that the detailed description and specific examples, while indicating preferred variants of the present inventive concept, are given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the scope of the inventive concept will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.
Hence, it is to be understood that this inventive concept is not limited to the particular roller screen described as such roller screen may vary. It is also to be understood that the terminology used herein is for purpose of describing particular embodiments only, and is not intended to be limiting. It must be noted that, as used in the specification and the appended claim, the articles “a”, “an”, “the”, and “said” are intended to mean that there are one or more of the elements unless the context clearly dictates otherwise. Thus, for example, reference to “a unit” or “the unit” may include several devices, and the like. Referring initially to Fig. 1, a first embodiment of a screening arrangement in the form of a roller screen 1 mounted at a building aperture 3 in an inclined wall 35 is shown. The roller screen 1 may be in the form of an insect net or the like.

The building aperture 3 is delimited by side inclined walls 31 and 32, an upper inclined wall 33 and a lower inclined wall 34 and the roller screen 1 is mounted on the internal side of the building aperture 3 on the inclined wall 35. A periphery is defined by surface portions of the inclined wall 35, i.e. extending in a plane substantially perpendicular to the side inclined walls 31, 32, the upper inclined wall 33 and the lower inclined wall 34.
The roller screen 1 may also be mounted directly on a sash 21 of a roof window 2 mounted in the building aperture 3. The sash 21 comprises side elements 22, a top element 23 and a bottom element 24, and the roller screen 1 is mounted on the internal side of the sash 21 facing the interior of a building in which the roof window 2 is mounted.
The roller screen 1 comprises a supply condition and a condition of use. Referring also to Fig. 2, the roller screen 1 further comprises a top casing 4, a bottom element 5 and first and second side rails 6, 7. In an assembled condition, as shown in Fig. 1, the top casing 4, bottom element 5 and first and second side rails 6, 7 form a rectangular frame where the top casing 4 and a bottom element 5 extending substantially in parallel to each other in a first longitudinal direction defining, in the condition of use, a width direction, and where the first and second side rails 6, 7 extend substantially in parallel to each other in a second longitudinal direction defining, in the condition of use, a height direction. The first longitudinal direction is substantially perpendicular to the second longitudinal direction. The first and second side rails 6, 7 thus connect the top casing 4 and the bottom element 5. The thus formed rectangular frame delimits an aperture 100. Furthermore, the roller screen 1 may comprise connection elements or inserts 40 configured to connect the top casing to the side rails and corner connection elements or inserts 60 configured to connect the bottom element to the side rails.
The roller screen 1 may further comprise extension elements 8, 9 for the first and second side rails 6, 7. The extension elements 8, 9 makes it possible to extend the side rails 6, 7 such as to fit the roller screen 1 to the size of the building aperture 3 or roof window 2 during mounting. The roller screen 1 may also comprise further connection elements or inserts similar to the connection elements 40 configured for connecting the side rails and the extension elements.
The top casing 4, bottom element 5, side rails 6, 7 and, if provided, the extension elements 8, 9 are intended to be arranged along the edges of the building aperture 3 or along the edges of the sash 21 of the roof window 2. An arrestable locking device for engagement with a retainer device may be provided at the bottom of each guide rail of the side rails 6, 7.
The roller screen 1 further comprises a screening body in the form of a lightweight flexible screen 10, which may be made of wire mesh 15. The screen of wire mesh 15 is an insect net adapted to cover an aperture of a window in order to prevent insects, leaves, debris, birds and the like from entering the building while a flow of fresh air into the building is permitted. The screen of wire mesh 15 may be a wire net of metal, fiberglass and the like synthetic fibers in a mesh or a plastic mesh made from polypropylene, polyethylene, nylon, PVC or PTFE or the like materials. Preferably, the screen of wire mesh 15 is a PVC coated insect net of fiberglass. In order to facilitate handling of the roller screen in a storage condition, the screen of wire mesh 15 is preferably made so flexible that it may be wound up for easier handling during storage outside the season or in the supply condition of the roller screen 1. The side edges of the screen 10 are guided in tracks (not shown in detail) in the side rails 6, 7, and if present, the extension elements 8, 9. The screen 10 of wire mesh 15 thus covers the aperture 100 of the rectangular frame completely in the condition of use.
The roller screen 1 further comprises a spring-biased roller bar 12 (cf. Fig 4) arranged in the top casing 4. The top casing 4 and the roller bar 12 are to be mounted at an upper edge of the building aperture 3 or roof window 2.
A bottom bar 13 is arranged at a bottom edge 11 of the flexible screen 10. The flexible screen 10 is designed to be wound and unwound from a screening position to a non-screening position, and vice versa, by winding and unwinding, respectively, the flexible screen 10 on the roller bar 12. The bottom bar 13 comprises at its opposite ends guide members slidable in guide tracks of the side rails 6, 7. The bottom bar 13 comprises a handle portion 14 intended to be gripped by a user when operating the roller screen 1. Although not described in detail here, the handle portion 14 is provided in the form of a longitudinal recess in the bottom bar 13 to allow a user to introduce finger/s to operate the screening arrangement 1.

Referring also to Fig. 3, the bottom element 5 further comprises an opening 18 for receiving a fastening element 19, such as a screw, for fixing the bottom element 5 to the inclined wall 35. The bottom element 5 is temporarily fixed to the inclined wall 35 in a first, intermediate position. Following sideways adjustment of the bottom element 5 and of the top casing 4, such that the rectangular shape is retained, the bottom element 5 and consequently the top casing are fixed in a second, final position. The opening 18 is an oblong opening allowing for adjusting the sideways position of the assembled rectangular frame before fastening the fastening element 19 completely and thus fixing the position of the bottom element 5 and of the other components with respect to the inclined wall 35. Alternatively, the opening 18 may be a round opening.
Furthermore, at least one of the side elements 6 and 7 may in a similar manner comprise an opening for receiving a further fastening element for fixing the side element 6, 7 to the inclined wall 35. Also, the extension elements 8, 9, where provided, may also comprise such an opening. Figs 4
Referring now to Fig. 4, the top casing 4 comprises a rear surface 41 , a front surface 42 and an upper surface 43. The rear surface 41 abuts the inclined wall 35 in a mounted condition of the roller screen 1. The front surface 42 faces away from the inclined wall 35 in a mounted condition of the roller screen 1. The upper surface 43 connects the rear surface 41 and the front surface 42. The top casing 4 defines an interior 49 in which the roller bar 12 is accommodated. The flexible screen 10 is at one end portion connected to the roller bar 12 and wound on the roller bar 12 such that most of the flexible screen 10 is also accommodated in the top casing 4 in the non screening position. Fig. 4 is a simplistic view, not showing the connection of the flexible screen 10 to the bottom bar 13. An opening 48 allows insertion of the flexible screen 10 into the interior 49 of the top casing 4. The top casing 4 further comprises a track 44 provided in the rear surface 41 of the top casing 4 in a position adjacent to, close to or near the upper surface 43 of the top casing 4. The track 44 is adapted for receiving a part of a mounting bracket 16 to be described further below. The track 44 extends in a longitudinal direction of the top casing 4 between opposite longitudinal ends 47a and 47b (Fig. 2) of the top casing 4. The track 44 may extend all the way or part of the way, preferably centrally, between the opposite longitudinal ends 47a and 47b of the top casing 4.
Figs 5 to 14 Referring now to Figs 5 to 14, further details of the roller screen 1 will now be described in detail. Not all elements previously described will be mentioned in detail, including the top casing 4 defining a first longitudinal direction and in which a spring-biased roller bar 12 (Fig. 4) is arranged rotatably and the bottom bar 13 (Fig. 2) configured to extend substantially in parallel with the top casing 4 and being manually operable. As in the above, two side rails 6 and 7, each extending in a second longitudinal direction, substantially perpendicular from a respective end of the top casing 4, are provided; reference to the second side rail 7 as “the side rail” will be made. Two extension element 8, 9 are used to fit a window opening. The side rail 7 thus comprises at least a first track 71, a further track 78 and side flange 77 that faces a counterpart track of the first side rail 6. The side edges of the screening body may be provided with discrete or continuously positioned thickenings guided in the first track 71 and having a transverse dimension larger than the opening into the track.
In the embodiment shown, the bottom connection corner 60 comprises a first leg 61 and a second leg 62, which are arranged to be inserted into the extension element 9. The insertion of the first leg 61 and the second leg 62 forming a connection. The bottom connection corner 60 further comprises a third leg 63, configured to be accommodated in a track 5a of the bottom element 5. The third leg 63 of the bottom connection corner 60 may further be provided with a marking 65. The marking may be an opening, e.g. a threaded opening. The bottom element 5 comprises an opening 5b. A fastening element 95 being provided to interact with the opening 5b in the bottom element 5 and the marking 65 in the bottom connection corner 60.
A set of connection elements 40, 80 comprise at least one marking 87, 89, and where one of the connection elements is a connection insert 80. The connection insert 80 may be arranged in the further track 78 of the respective side rail 6, 7 and a further track 9a of the respective extension element 8, 9 in such a way that when the at least one opening 781 of the side rail 6, 7 and/or the opening 9b of the extension element 8, 9 is/are arranged in a first position to overlap the corresponding at least one marking 87, 89 of the connection insert 80. In the first position at least one of the markings 87, 89 of the connection insert 80 is arranged excentrically, with a placement difference Dc, away from the respective facing ends of the side rail 6, 7 and the extension element 8, 9 relative to the respective opening 781 of the side rail 6, 7 and/or the respective opening 9b of the extension element 8, 9.
A fastening element 97, 99 is configured to be introduced through the respective opening 781 of the side rail 7 and the opening 9b of the extension element 9 to engage with the corresponding marking 87, 89 of the connection insert 80. In the embodiment shown, two markings 87, 89 are provided; however it is also conceivable to form the connection insert 80 fixedly connected to for instance the extension element 9, such that the extension element 9 is pulled toward the side rail 7 together with the connection insert 80.
Furthermore, it is seen how each of the fastening elements 97 and 99 comprises an inclined surface, of which the inclined surface 971 of fastening elements 97 is indicated. The inclined surface 971 is configured to engage with an edge of the opening 781 of the side rail 7 and the opening 9b of the extension element 9. In this way, when the fastening element 97, 99 is tightened, with a movement S, the extension element 8, 9 and the side rail 6, 7 are pulled towards each other, thanks to a force that is a combination of a lateral force F1 applied by the fastening element, and a tightening force applied by the fastening element, resulting from the inclined surface 971, from the first position to a second position in which the respective facing ends of the side rail 6, 7 and the extension element 8, 9 are substantially brought into abutment with each other. In one of the embodiments the excentricity between the marking 87, 89 of the connection insert 80 and the at least one opening 781 , 9b of the side rail and/or the extension element lies in the range 1 to 5 mm.
In one embodiment each connection insert 80 comprises two markings 87, 8) and is configured to be arranged in each of the further track 78 of each side rail 6, 7 and the further track 9a.
In one embodiment at least one of the opening of the side rail 6, 7 and/or the extension element 8, 9 is provided with a connection piece 81 of the connection insert 80 and said at least one opening 781 , 9b, the side rail 6, 7 and/or the extension element 8, 9 being preferably provided with a stop for said connection piece 81 to ensure that a sufficient length of the connection piece 81 protrudes from the side rail 6, 7 and/or the extension element 8, 9.
In one of the embodiments the fastening element 97, 99 is adapted for joining the connection insert 80 comprises a screw with a countersunk head, thus providing the inclined surface 971 to interact with the edge of the opening 781 of the side rail 7 and the opening 9b of the extension element 9.
In a not-shown embodiment, it is also conceivable to provide the inclined surface on a separate funnel-shaped part forming part of the fastening element and configured to be introduced into the respective opening of the side rail and/or the respective opening of the extension element and a self-tapping screw forming the other part of the fastening element and interacting with the separate funnel-shaped part.
The connection elements 40, 60, 80 may as shown be provided as a separate element configured to be releasably attached to the top casing 4, the first and/or second side rail 6, 7, the first and/or second extension element 8, 9, and/or a bottom element 5. It is also conceivable to form the connection elements integral with one of the respective components though.
Referring finally to Fig. 6, the configuration of the side rail 7 will be described in more detail. The other side rail 6 has a corresponding, mirror- inverted configuration, and the extension element 9 has a substantially identical cross-sectional configuration as the side rail 7 etc. In Fig. 6 it is shown that the side rail 7 is provided with a first track 71, a second track 75 and the further track constitutes a further track 78 located away from the first and second tracks and delimited by a leg 74 common with the first and second tracks 71, 75, an opposite side flange 77, and opposing first and second wall flanges 791, 792, and wherein the opening 781 in the side rail 6, 7 and the opening 9b of the extension element 8, 9 is provided in the first wall flange 791.
The person skilled in the art realizes that the present invention by no means is limited to the preferred embodiments described above. On the contrary, many modifications and variations are possible within the scope of the appended claims. List of reference numerals

Claims

Claims
1. A roller screen (1), in particular in the form of an insect net or the like, for shielding a building aperture (3), in particular a roof window area, in an inclined wall, which roller screen comprises: a top casing (4) defining a first longitudinal direction and in which a spring-biased roller bar (12) is arranged rotatably, a bottom bar (13) configured to extend substantially in parallel with the top casing (4) and comprising a handle portion (14), two side rails (6, 7), each side rail extending in a second longitudinal direction, substantially perpendicular from a respective end of the top casing (4) and comprising at least a first track (71) with an opening (781), and at least one further track (78) and at least one opening (9b), a screening body (10) having two side edges and a predefined length between a first end portion connected to the roller bar (12) and a second end portion connected to the bottom bar (13), said screening body (10) being movable in the second longitudinal direction between a non-screening position and a screening position in which the screening body (10) is unwound from the roller bar (12) and covers the building aperture, the side edges of the screening body being preferably provided with discrete or continuously positioned thickenings guided in the first track (71) and having a transverse dimension larger than the opening, two extension elements (8, 9), each extension element having a substantially identical cross-section as the corresponding side rail (6, 7), including at least one further track (9a) and at least one opening (9b), and configured to be connected to a respective side rail (6, 7), characterised in that the roller screen (1) further comprises a set of connection elements (40, 60, 80) comprising at least one marking (65, 87, 89), and wherein the set of connection elements comprises a connection insert (80) adapted to be arranged in the further track (78) of the respective side rail (6, 7) and the further track (9a) of the respective extension element (8, 9), in such a way that when the at least one opening (781) of the side rail (6, 7) and/or the opening (9b) of the extension element (8, 9) is/are arranged in a first position to overlap the corresponding at least one marking (87, 89) of the connection insert (80), at least one of the markings (87, 89) of the connection insert (80) is arranged excentrically (Dc) away from the respective facing ends of the side rail (6, 7) and the extension element (8, 9) relative to the respective opening (781) of the side rail (6, 7) and/or the respective opening (9b) of the extension element (8, 9), and wherein a fastening element (97, 99) is configured to be introduced through the opening (781) of the side rail (6, 7) and/or the opening (9b) of the extension element (8, 9) to engage with the corresponding marking (87, 89) of the connection insert (80) such that when the fastening element (97, 99) is tightened, the extension element (8, 9) and the side rail (6, 7) are pulled towards each other from the first position to a second position in which the respective facing ends of the side rail (6, 7) and the extension element (8, 9) are substantially brought into abutment with each other.
2. A roller screen according to claim 1, wherein each connection insert (80) comprises two markings (87, 89) and is configured to be arranged in each of the further track (78) of each side rail (6, 7) and the further track (9a).

A roller screen according to claim 1 or 2, wherein at least one of the at least one opening (781, 9b) of the side rail (6, 7) and/or the extension element (8, 9) is provided with a connection piece (81) of the connection insert (80) and said at least one opening (781, 9b), the side rail (6, 7) and/or the extension element (8, 9) being preferably provided with a stop for said connection piece (81) to ensure that a sufficient length of the connection piece (81) protrudes from the side rail (6, 7) and/or the extension element (8, 9).
4. A roller screen according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the excentricity between the marking (87, 89) of the connection insert (80) and the at least one opening (781, 9b) of the side rail and/or the extension element lies in the range 1 to 5 mm.
5. A roller screen according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein each marking of the connection insert (80) comprises an opening (87, 89).
6. A roller screen according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein each fastening element (97, 99) comprises an inclined surface (971) configured to engage with an edge of the respective opening (781 ) of the side rail (6, 7) and/or the respective opening (9b) of the extension element (8, 9).
7. A roller screen according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein each fastening element (97, 99) adapted for joining the connection insert (80) comprises a screw with a countersunk head.
8. A roller screen according to claim 6, wherein each fastening element comprises a separate funnel-shaped part configured to be introduced into the respective opening of the side rail and/or the respective opening (9b) of the extension element and a self-tapping screw interacting with the separate funnel-shaped part.
9. A roller screen according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein a bottom element (5) is provided opposite to the top casing (4) such that a rectangular frame comprising the top casing (4), the bottom element (5), the first and second side rails (6, 7) and respective extension elements (8, 9) such that the top casing (4) and the bottom element (5) extend substantially in parallel to each other, and the first and second side rail (6, 7) with respective extension elements (8, 9) extend substantially in parallel to each other and connecting the top casing (4) and the bottom element (5), and wherein the set of connection elements comprises a bottom connection corner (60) and/or a top connection corner (40).
10. A roller screen according to claim 9, wherein the bottom connection corner (60) comprises a leg (63) to be accommodated in a track
(5a) of the bottom element (5), and wherein the bottom element (5) comprises an opening (5b) to interact with a marking (65), preferably an opening, in the bottom connection corner (60), a fastening element (95) being provided to interact with the opening (5b) in the bottom element (5) and the marking (65) in the bottom connection corner (60).
11. A roller screen according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the set of connection element (40, 60, 80) is provided in one piece with any one of the top casing (4), the first and/or second side rail (6, 7), the first and/or second extension element (8, 9), and/or a bottom element (5).
12. A roller screen according to any one of claims 1 to 8, wherein the set of connection element (40, 60, 80) is provided as a separate element configured to be releasably attached to the top casing (4), the first and/or second side rail (6, 7), the first and/or second extension element (8, 9), and/or a bottom element (5).
13. A roller screen according to any one of the preceding claims, wherein the side rail (6, 7) and the extension element (8, 9) is each provided with a first track (71), a second track (75) and the further track constitutes a further track (78) located away from the first and second tracks and delimited by a leg (74) common with the first and second tracks (71, 75), an opposite side flange (77), and an opposing first and a opposing second wall flanges (791, 792), and wherein the opening (781) in the side rail (6, 7) and the opening (9b) of the extension element (8, 9) is provided in the first wall flange (791).
