Definitions
- the present invention relates to an intra-auricular earphone of the type comprising, in an anatomical case, an electro-acoustic transducer capable of diffusing sound into an auditory canal, a control unit of the electro-acoustic transducer capable of receiving a signal to be reproduced comprising a equalization filter applied to the signal to be reproduced, which unit is connected to an internal microphone of the earphone arranged to measure an audio signal in the auditory canal, the unit further comprising means for continuously estimating a path secondary acoustic defined between the transducer and the internal microphone and means for continuously defining and applying the equalization filter according to the estimation of the secondary acoustic path.
- the in-ear earphone has an anatomical shape allowing it to be inserted into the ear canal. It defines a small, essentially enclosed volume of air between the earpiece and the eardrum, which makes it possible to generate sound in relatively low frequencies down to 5 Hz.
- the object of the invention is to propose a solution allowing better correction of the audio signal to take account of the lack of sealing between the in-ear earphone and the auditory canal.
- the subject of the invention is an in-ear earphone of the aforementioned type, characterized in that it comprises an external microphone arranged to measure a sound signal outside the auditory canal, and the means for estimating the secondary path are specific in estimating the secondary acoustic path as a function also of the sound signal outside the auditory canal measured by the external microphone.
- a dotted line shows part of a face 8.
- An intra-auricular earpiece 10 is engaged in the auditory canal denoted 12 of the ear.
- the user has a pair of headphones symmetrical to each other and wears them in both ears. Only one will be described here.
- the in-ear earphone 10 comprises, as known per se, an anatomical housing 14 having a slightly frustoconical shape suitable for fitting as tightly as possible into the auditory canal 12.
- the earphone comprises means 22 for receiving an audio signal to be reproduced from a broadcasting means, such as a mobile phone 24. Communication between the mobile phone and the receiver 22 of the in-ear earphone is ensured, for example, via Bluetooth.
- the control unit 20 further comprises a computer 26 suitable for performing the computer processing described below and means 28 for amplifying the excitation signal of the transducer 18.
- the amplifier 28 has its output connected to the transducer 18.
- the computer 26 is also connected to a first internal microphone 30 arranged on the outer surface of the case placed in the auditory canal 12. This microphone is suitable for measuring the acoustic wave in the auditory canal and more precisely applied to the eardrum.
- the box 14 comprises, on its surface outside the auditory canal 12, an external microphone 32 also connected to the computer 26 and capable of measuring the sound signal outside the auditory cavity and corresponding to the ambient noise.
- FIG. 2 there are schematically the electro-acoustic transducer 18 and the internal microphone 30. Between these is defined a secondary acoustic path 50 commonly referred to as "secondary path" in English.
- the secondary path designates the sound flow emitted by the transducer 18 and received by the eardrum and it is in practice measured by the microphone 30 whose measurement is assumed to be representative of the measurement on the eardrum.
- the primary path designates the sound flow received from outside the earphone by the eardrum and corresponds to the surrounding noises.
- the receiver 22 is monitored at the output by an equalization filter 52 with variable parameters implemented in the computer 26.
- the filter is for example a Shelving filter or stepped filter in French.
- the equalization filter 52 is an infinite (IIR) or finite (FIR) impulse response filter, a cascade of filters or any other filter.
- the output of the filter 52 for the signal to be reproduced thus equalized is connected to the amplifier 28 through a digital/analog converter 54.
- the earpiece further comprises, implemented in the computer 26, means 60 for continuously estimating the secondary path 50 associated with means 62 for continuously defining and applying the parameters of the equalization filter 52.
- the estimation means 60 comprise a model 70 of the transfer function of the secondary path 50.
- This model 70 receives as input the equalized signal to be reproduced coming from the equalization filter 52.
- the output signal of the model 70 is subtracted, in a subtractor 72, from a composite signal coming in particular from the internal microphone 30.
- the analog signal at the output of the internal microphone 30 is routed through an analog/digital converter 86 whose output is connected to the input of the subtractor 72 with the interposition of a subtractor 88.
- the negative input of the subtractor is connected to the external microphone 32 successively through an analog/digital converter 89 then a module 90 for modeling the passive attenuation resulting from the structure of the earphone.
- a switch 92 controlled by the control unit 20 is interposed between the module 90 and the subtractor 88.
- the module 90 is suitable for applying to the digitized signal corresponding to the external sound flow, a filter corresponding to the attenuation due to the structure of the earphone so that the output signal from the module 90 is representative of the sound flow in the auditory canal in presence of the earphone and resulting solely from the external sound flow.
- the attenuation function of the filter is experimentally measured on the earphone and stored in memory.
- the output of the subtractor 72 is connected to an input of an evaluation unit 100 which receives, on another input, the equalized signal coming from the output of the filter 52.
- the evaluation unit 100 is capable of implementing a least squares algorithm and is linked to the model 70 to ensure its regulation according to a suitable optimization algorithm. Thus, unit 100 forms a model 70 control loop.
- the means 62 for defining the parameters of the filter include means 120 for continuously calculating the parameters of the filter 52 and in particular the gain denoted G, the cut-off frequency denoted Fc and the quality factor denoted Q.
- the means 60 for estimating the secondary path from the information received from the equalized signal to be reproduced and from the two microphones 30, 32, generate the impulse response of the secondary path 50.
- a fast Fourier transform is applied to the impulse response obtained by model 70.
- a calculation of the energy of the frequency signal in a range of low frequencies is carried out in step 214.
- the range of low frequencies is for example from 50 to 200 Hertz.
- a calculation of the frequency signal energy in a range of median frequencies, chosen outside the range of frequencies where the sound is impacted by a possible leak, is performed during this same step 214.
- the range of median frequencies is for example 300 to 500 Hz.
- the calculated energies are smoothed over time to make them more stable with respect to external noises, due to their variations as a function of time.
- an energy factor EF is continuously defined at step 218. It is equal to the quotient of the energy of the frequency signal in the low frequency range over the energy of the frequency signal in the mid-frequency range.
- the means 60 produce an error signal, intended to produce a confidence score SNE as explained below.
- the error signal corresponds to the signal obtained at the output of the subtractor 72 and is equal to the difference on the one hand of the equalized signal to be reproduced to which the transfer function of the secondary path modeled by the module 70 has been applied and on the other hand of the digitized signal from the internal microphone 30 corrected for the digitized signal measured by the external microphone 32 and filtered to take account of the attenuation of the structure of the earpiece.
- the error signal and the equalized signal to be reproduced coming from the filter 52 are filtered in a range of median frequencies, for example from 50 to 750 Hz. They are then smoothed at step 314.
- the confidence score SNE is calculated at step 316. It is equal to the quotient of the amplitude of the equalized signal to be reproduced filtered and smoothed by the amplitude of the error signal filtered and smoothed.
- Step 400 consists of defining and applying the parameters of the filter from the energy factor EF and the confidence score SNE.
- These parameters are each calculated as a function of the energy factor EF obtained in step 218 from a predefined polynomial function, provided that the confidence score SNE is greater than a predetermined threshold. If this SNE confidence score is greater than the predetermined threshold, the new filter parameters are applied to the filter 52 and the algorithm is implemented again. Otherwise, the algorithm is implemented again without modification of the parameters.
- the switch 72 is kept closed under the control of the control unit 20.
- the latter ensures the temporary opening of this switch only as long as the energy factor EF is lower. at a predetermined threshold.
- the sound signal corresponding to the external flow measured by the external microphone 32 is then not taken into account during periods when the level of leakage is too high.
- the filter is permanently adapted in an improved manner to any leaks that may occur around the earpiece.

Abstract
Description
- l'unité de pilotage comporte des moyens de correction du signal sonore mesuré par le microphone externe hors du canal auditif en fonction d'un modèle de l'atténuation propre à l'écouteur ;
- il comporte des moyens de non prise en compte du signal sonore hors du conduit auditif mesuré par le microphone externe, lorsque le niveau de fuite entre l'écouteur intra-auriculaire et le conduit auditif est supérieur à un seuil prédéterminé ;
- les moyens de définition et d'application sont propres à définir et à appliquer en continu au filtre d'égalisation à la fois un gain, une fréquence de coupure et un facteur de qualité du filtre en fonction de l'estimation du chemin secondaire acoustique ;
- les moyens d'estimation en continu du chemin secondaire acoustique comportant un modèle de la fonction de transfert du chemin secondaire acoustique ;
- les moyens d'estimation comportent une boucle de régulation mettant en œuvre un algorithme d'optimisation appliquée sur le modèle ;
- les moyens d'estimation en continu du chemin secondaire comportent des moyens de calcul d'un facteur d'énergie formé du quotient de l'énergie du signal fréquentiel dans une gamme de fréquence basse sur l'énergie du signal fréquentiel dans une gamme de fréquence médiane ;
