Abstract
Description
- The present invention relates to a household appliance.
- In particular, it relates to a household appliance equipped with at least one openable door, such as an oven, a dishwasher etc.
- Modern household appliances have internal compartments (for cooking, washing etc.) which must be properly isolated from the external environment during use.
- The necessary presence of at least one access door to the compartment creates a problem in terms of the isolation thereof.
- Indeed, the door must be easy to open and at the same time, when in the closed position, must isolate the compartment properly. For this purpose, one or more seals are envisaged between the compartment opening and the door.
- When the door presses against the seal in the closed position, the compartment is properly isolated.
- To obtain this 'isolation', it is therefore useful for the door to exert a certain force when pressing against the seal. To calibrate this force, historically, action is taken on the main hinge spring, which is made 'stronger'.
- However, this creates problems during opening, since the opening force required increases significantly.
- Furthermore, use of a 'stronger' spring affects the door's movement, which is less smooth. The door is therefore harder to balance.
- The object of the present invention is to provide a household appliance which is an improvement on the prior art.
- A further object of the invention is to provide a household appliance equipped with a hinge which improves the stability of the door when in the closed condition.
- Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a household appliance which has a properly isolated compartment and is easily opened and well balanced.
- This and other objects are achieved by means of a household appliance according to the technical teachings of the claims annexed hereto.
- Further characteristics and advantages of the innovation will become clearer in the description of a preferred but not exclusive embodiment of the device, illustrated - by way of a non-limiting example - in the drawings annexed hereto, in which:
-
Figure 1 is a schematic, simplified view of a hinge of a household appliance, taken from a side view and in a closed door position; -
Figure 2 is a simplified exploded view of the hinge inFigure 1 ; -
Figure 3 is an enlarged schematic view of the detail circled inFigure 1 ; -
Figure 4 shows the hinge inFigure 1 in a different position; -
Figure 5 is an enlarged schematic view of the part circled inFigure 4 ; -
Figures 6 and 7 are a simplified view of some variants of the hinge according to the present invention; and -
Figure 8 shows a household appliance according to the present invention, equipped with the hinge inFigure 1 . - With reference to the figures stated,
reference number 1 is used to denote a household appliance as a whole. - The
household appliance 1, better shown inFigure 8 , comprises aframe 2 equipped with aopenable door 3, thedoor 3 being hinged to theframe 2 by at least onehinge 4. It should be noted that thedoor 3 may be supported by two hinges which are either mutually identical or different. - The household appliance may be, for example, an oven, a dishwasher, etc.
- Inside the frame, there is a
compartment 51 defined, which may be accessed by opening the hatch ordoor 3. Advantageously, between the door and theframe 2, there is aseal 52 envisaged which, when pressed by thedoor 3, ensures proper isolation of thecompartment 51. - The hinge comprises a
base 5 secured to theframe 2 or to thedoor 3, and ajoint 6 secured to thedoor 3 or to theframe 2. - The
base 5 may be made by shearing and U-bending a simple piece of thick metal sheet (which is appropriately shaped by the said shearing). - In
Figure 1 , thebase 5 is therefore open underneath and there is abottom 35 which is located in the upper part ofFigure 1 , from which twoabutments 36 extend, which are preferably mutually parallel. - The
joint 6 is hinged to thebase 5. Preferably the hinging can be achieved by means of athird pin 37. - Furthermore, the
joint 6 is hinged at 370 to atie rod 7 which is slidably secured to thebase 5; thetie rod 7 is associated with atension spring 8, afirst end 8A of which is secured to thebase 5. - In one possible configuration, the
first end 8A of thespring 8 may be hook-shaped and hooked onto on abase 5 fasteningpin 30. - A
second end 8B of thespring 8 is secured to part of theintermediate element 9. - For example, the
second end 8B of the spring may be hook-shaped and may be hooked onto apin 33 on theintermediate element 9. - The
intermediate element 9 also features at least onesurface 10 which cooperates (at least incertain joint 6 positions in which the door is nearing the closing position) with afirst cam 13 in thebase 5 to improve closure of thedoor 3. - The
first cam 13 may be simply a portion of thebottom 35 which is folded so as to form a dip whose vertex is facing the open part of the base. - The shape and height of the
cam 13 may be easily changed in the design stage, to adjust the load given to the door in the closed position. - Obviously, the
cam 13 may be any shape and may, for example, have walls which slope, in an identical manner, to the left and to the right of the maximum height point (seeFigure 3 ). Or the walls may be angled differently; a recess may also be envisaged to house thesurface 10 of theintermediate element 9 in a stable position, and so forth. - The
tie rod 7 can be connected slidingly to thebase 5 by means of the aforesaidfirst pin 11, which may protrude from thetie rod 7 and may be engaged infirst slots 12 in thebase 5. Obviously, the slots may be made in theabutments 36. - Advantageously, the
intermediate element 9 and thetie rod 7 are mutually hinged at precisely the saidfirst pin 11, which is therefore common to both elements. - As can be seen in
Figure 2 , the tie rod may be made in a similar way to thebase 5, by shearing and U-bending an appropriately shaped thick metal sheet. In this case, therefore, thebottom 39 of the tie rod is facing downwards inFigure 2 while an open part of the tie rod is facing upwards, also inFigure 2 . - As can be seen in
Figure 6 or 7 , thetie rod abutments 40 may be slightly less mutually distant than the abutments of the base, so that the tie rod can be housed precisely between the twoabutments 36 of the base. Furthermore, theabutments 40 may be shaped so as to be positioned in mutual proximity near the hinging point with thejoint 6, in order to copy the thickness of thejoint 6. - As is clearly visible in
Figure 3 , thesurface 10 of theintermediate element 9 which cooperates with the saidfirst cam 13 may comprise afirst roller 10A. This facilitates the sliding of thesurface 10 over thecam 13. - In more detail, from the description of the
intermediate element 9, it can be seen that the point A (securing the second end of thespring 8B and the intermediate element 9), thesurface 10 of theintermediate element 9, and the saidfirst pin 11 may be spaced apart and advantageously arranged, in a side view, at the vertices of a triangle where the line connecting thesurface 10 and the point A forms the base of the triangle. - Indeed, the mutual position of the point A, of the
first pin 11, and of the surface 10 (with or withoutroller 10A) are configured so that thespring 8 pushes thesurface 10 against thehinge bottom 35. For this reason, theintermediate element 9 may assume an essentially triangular conformation with rounded vertices. - The operation of the invention is easily understood by comparing
Figures 1 and3 withFigures 4 and5 . - As mentioned,
Figures 1 and3 show the hinge in the closed position (therefore when thedoor 3 is closed). - The
spring 8 applies traction to the intermediate element that pushes thesurface 10 thereof (or rather theroller 10A) against thebase bottom 35 to the left of thecam 13. - When the
joint 6 is angularly inclined (by traction during opening of the door 3) thetie rod 6 undergoes a shift towards the right inFigure 5 and thepin 11 is moved away from theend 12A of the slot 12 (compare the position of thepin 11 in theslot 12 inFigure 3 and inFigure 5 ). - The rightwards movement of the
tie rod 7 is opposed by the action of thespring 8 and significantly, in this step, by the height of thecam 13, which cooperates with thesurface 10 of the intermediate element so as to further brake thedoor 3 during the opening thereof. - It is clear how, by properly calibrating the position of the
cam 13 and its height (as seen above in an extremely simple way), thedoor 3 may be subject to 'additional traction' during closing which is greater than that exerted by the spring alone. - When the angular position of the joint is such that the
cam 13 has been moved past (to the right inFigure 3 or5 ), the operation of the hinge is conventional, and therefore only regulated by the force of the spring and by the hinging position between the tie rod and the joint. This is because thecam 13 is spaced apart from thesurface 10. - It should be noted that the tilt of the intermediate element can be such that the
surface 10 is spaced apart from the bottom 35 of the hinge, except when it cooperates with thecam 13, or is such that thesurface 10 is always in sliding (or rolling) contact with the bottom 35 of the base. - In addition to the system described above, the
hinge 4 may also feature what is known as a 'soft closing' and/or 'soft opening' system, which may be implemented by equipping the tie rod with a shock absorber or damper equipped with a stem that cooperates with ashaped surface 6A of the joint. The combination of the two systems is particularly effective, especially in the presence of a 'soft closing' system. - Therefore, as mentioned above, a
shock absorber 14 may be fastened to thetie rod 7. - The shock absorber may, in turn, comprise a
stem 14A equipped with anend 14B which cooperates with ashaped surface 6A of the joint 6 to brake thedoor 3 during a closing/opening movement. - The
end 14B may also cooperate with a part of the base to slow down the closing/opening movement of thedoor 3. - The shock absorber may be fastened to the
tie rod 7 by means of at least two fastening pins P (but advantageously by means of four pins P which are shown with a dashed line inFigure 1 ) and/or by means of at least onewindow 7A (Figure 2 ) in thetie rod 7, in which it is engaged by means of an undercut. - Advantageously, the
end 14B of the stem which cooperates with the shapedsurface 6A of the joint comprises asecond roller 15. In this way the shapedsurface 6A of the joint transmits only an axial force in compression to therod 14A of the damper, thus avoiding breakage of the damper itself to which it would be subject in the absence of thesecond roll 15. - For example, the
second roller 15 may be associated with thestem 14A by means of a fork element, simply by means of an interference fit (or fastened in some other way) on the stem of the damper. - There may also be an external spring for resetting the
shock absorber 14 fitted on thestem 14A and interposed between asurface 50 of the damper and the fork (or theend 14B) . - To stabilise the
tie rod 7, the latter may be slidably constrained to thebase 5 by means of at least asecond pin 18 engaged in aslot 19 in thetie rod 7 and in aslot 20 in the base (Fig. 6 ). - Therefore in
Fig. 6 , thepin 18 moves freely in theslot 20 and then cooperates with thepoint 20A, which is a stop. Having come into contact withpoint 20A,pin 18 begins to slide intoslot 19. - Advantageously, the
second pin 18 is the axle of thesecond roller 15 and protrudes laterally from thetie rod 7. - The
second pin 18 may be engaged insecond slots 20 in theabutments 36 of the base 5 (to limit the axial movement thereof) or it can cooperate withstops 21 made on thebase 5. - In the second case, shown in
Figure 7 , the tie rod is secured to the base by thepin 11 only, which is engaged inslot 12. - During opening, the
pin 18 comes into contact with thestops 21 or the bottom 20A of theslot 20, braking (or rather cushioning) the door opening movement. - During closure, the
roller 15 comes into contact with the shapedsurface 6A of the joint 6 to slow down (or rather cushion) the door closing movement. - Various embodiments of the innovation have been disclosed herein, but further embodiments may also be conceived using the same innovative concept.
