It is characterized by a passive RFID tag (2) being placed in an opening (4) in a metal sheet (1), whereas the protective foil (3) at the location of the identification strip has a demetallised layer with the same size as the external dimensions of the opening (4) for the placement of the identification strip (2).

Description

An information plate, in particular a license plate
The subject of the invention is an information plate, in particular a number plate used as a vehicle number plate, to be placed in locations where durable information about a given object is required, using a passive RFID {Radio Frequency Identification ) tag.
The use of plates, in particular vehicle number plates requires a special degree of identification of the plate, and thus of the object marked with the plate, in particular a vehicle.
So far various plate anti-counterfeiting technologies were used in the manufacturing processes, such as: laser marking, hot stamping of holograms with nanotext or microtext elements, application of laser marking visible only at specific angles of observation of the number plate, laser printed QR codes.
The following anti-counterfeiting measures are placed on the number plate:
- optical measures, such as: holograms, watermarks, double marks,
- graphical, such as: complicated digital graphics,
- measures in the form of variable fonts,
- foils with inscriptions, metallised foils,
- bar codes or QR type 2D codes,
- serial numbers of the number plate connected to the vehicle registration certificate. Windshield stickers with a passive RFID tag included in their structure are being currently used with an increasing frequency.
In the BR 102016001097, BR 11201501 1174 or DE 102016118913 patent descriptions an electronic plate anti-counterfeiting measure was presented. These solutions contain in the number plates an antenna system with a specific emission frequency, frequently supplied by a current from the vehicle, and emitting waves with a coded frequency.
The goal of the invention is the implementation of passive RFID tags in information plates, in particular number plates. The improvement of functionality of information/number plates by providing them with the features of a document and data carrier which identifies the object/vehicle, which may be widely used in the information, control, access and registration systems.
The essence of the invention, which is an information plate, in particular a vehicle number plate in the form of a normalized metal sheet, in particular an aluminium sheet, with identification symbols applied by painting and/or stamping, and covered by a protective layer, consists of a passive radio frequency identification strip being placed in an opening in the metal sheet, while the protective foil at the location of the identification strip has a gap with the same size as the external dimensions of the opening for the placement of the identification strip.
The use of the solution presented in the invention enables the following technical and utility effects:
1. Information plate:
- increasing the functionality of an information plate which enables the identification and verification of varied data
- accurate identification of objects,
- storage of object location data,
- recording of data on inspections and repairs,
- conducting stock-taking and inventory. 2. Number plates:
- automatic collection of parking fees,
- verification of fine payment,
- verification of access to areas closed for normal traffic,
- location of a moving vehicle,
- traffic measurement and management,
- recording and verifying the validity of vehicle roadworthiness inspection certificates,
- identification of a moving vehicle,
- verification and comparison of information recorded in the memory of the number plate tag, e.g. with a third plate.
The subject of the invention, in an example, but not limiting, implementation was presented on a figure— on fig. 1 the plate was shown in view of the main surface, on fig. 2 the cross-section of the plate in the A-A plane cross-section from fig. 1, and on fig. 3 the detail B from fig. 2 was shown.
The main component used to construct the information or number plate is a belt — an aluminium strip with a thickness of ±0.98 mm (fig. 3 detail B item 1). The aluminium belt is cut to an appropriate length, which depends on the type and intended use of the plate. In the location where the passive RFID tag is integrated with the aluminium belt an opening is cut with a width of 106 mm and a thickness of 3 mm. The opening is made at a distance of 13 mm from the bottom edge of the plate, usually at an equal distance from the side edges of the plate (fig. 3 detail B item 5). At the location of the opening a sticker with a passive RFID tag is placed (fig. 3 detail B item 2). The plate is entirely covered with a retroreflective foil (fig. 3 detail B item 3). The reflective properties of the foil are obtained by optical systems placed in its structure, in the form of glass spheres, and a thin layer of aluminium. In the demetallisation process a gap is made in the retroreflective foil (fig. 3 detail B item 4) with a removed layer of aluminium. The gap has the same dimensions as the opening made in the aluminium strip and is located at the place of integration of the foil with the passive RFID tag. In the rear part of the plate there's a cavity (fig. 3 detail B item 5) with a height corresponding to the thickness of aluminium. The cavity is filled with an epoxy resin. The raw number plate (that is, without the number stamped) has a stamped border, the height of which depends on the plate type and specifications. The main function of the number plate is the identification of the vehicle using alphanumeric signs, which may be read, recorded and stored in databases by advanced traffic control systems. However, this solution is not effective in combating such problems as: criminal offences, fiscal offences, insurance scams, validity of vehicle roadworthiness certificates, since the information received is only the registration number, which only in an external database has a wider representation and connection. Technology of application of passive tags (systems which do not need a power source) will facilitate the appropriate authorities to easily and immediately obtain the necessary data recorded in the memory of the passive tag integrated with the number plate. The recorded information may be read during an inspection by competent authorities as well as, what is a significant innovation, when a vehicle is travelling with a significant speed. The recorded information may be used as access data to e.g. limited traffic zones, car parks, institutions or for the vehicle traffic verification and supervision in cities and over highways. The specifics of the proposed RFID technology means that it may be used e.g. in operational search activities or to monitor vehicle traffic everywhere where the visual monitoring system is not always existing or does not“see” everything.
Combination of the plate with anti-counterfeiting measures such as holograms, QR codes, data matrix, watermarks and the passive UHF RFID transponder in question, in order to provide the plate with the features of a document and data carrier which identifies the vehicle, which may be widely used in control, access and recording systems. The identification functions will be easily accessible using smartphone applications and attachments, as well as using more advanced stationary infrastructure
The RFID tag must be attached to the information or number plates in a manner that ensures that the number plate manufacturing technological process and difficult operational condition do not result in it being damaged immediately or after a certain period of operation. Guaranteeing 100% durability and reliability of the data stored in the marked is objectively difficult, in particular after a certain period of operation in relatively difficult road traffic conditions. The basic technical parameters of the passive RFID tag will be as follows:
- Passive UHF RFID tag
- Nominal reading distance— 8 m
- Frequency of 865 to 928 MHz
- EPC— 496 bit
- TID— 64 bit
- User— 128 bit
Since the information/number plates are mostly made of metal (usually a group 1000 aluminium alloy) they have physical restrictions on the propagation of radio waves from the tags which are placed on them. The used sticker with a passive RFID tag is designed taking into account these restrictions and is dedicated for implementation on an information/number plate. The passive tag is able to generate electromagnetic/radio waves without an external power source. The main advantage of the product will be the integration of the tag with the number plate, occurring at the construction stage, without the ability to separate them later on (the technology for connecting the RFID tag with the number plates during the manufacturing process, without the user being able to interfere with the data recorded on the data carrier). The number plate will fulfil the requirements of the ISO 7591 standard concerning temperature resistance in the range of -20°C to 65 °C, impact resistance, bending resistance, resistance to water and vehicle cleaning agents, to fuels, to industrial atmosphere and to salt mist.
