Description
- The present invention relates to a stick vacuum cleaner, in particular to a stick vacuum cleaner comprising a camera and a display.
- Such a stick vacuum cleaner is already known from
JP 2018088970 A JP 2017064529 A - Stick vacuum cleaners which comprise a body, a brush head and a pipe extending between the brush head and the body are widely used in households. Due to their practical use and light weights, stick vacuum cleaners provide users convenience particularly in cleaning dark and narrow places. Even though the stick vacuum cleaners are able to reach dark and narrow spaces such as underneath the furniture and other household appliances, the users are having problems while checking the cleanness of the area that was swept. In order to ensure that the swept area is clean enough, the user has to bent over and look underneath the furniture and use a light source to illuminate dark and narrow places. Stick vacuum cleaners having cameras attached to the brush heads are widely known. These stick vacuum cleaners also possess a display attached close to the handle, preferably on to the body so as to provide the user with a view of the area that is being swept. However, due to limited battery power stick vacuum cleaners have, cameras, light sources and displays must remain dormant during normal use and must be activated upon sweeping of dark and narrow areas so as to prolong battery life.
- A prior art publication in the technical field of the present invention may be referred to as
CN201641896U among others, the document disclosing a stick vacuum cleaner comprising a camera and a display. - An objective of the present invention is to provide the user with a stick vacuum cleaner having a camera and a display to visualize the areas to be swept but keep these parts dormant during sweep of easily accessible areas thereby decreasing energy consumption of the stick vacuum cleaner.
- The method realized to achieve the aim of the present invention and disclosed in the first claim and the dependent claims comprises a stick vacuum cleaner having a body wherein the motor, the dust bag, the filter and the battery is provided. The body is connected to a brush head via a pipe which is attached to the brush head through a bracket that acts as an intermediary elbow. The bracket also allows the rotation of the pipe with respect to the brush head forming an angle in between. Motor, powered by the battery, creates a suction force which helps the brush head to suck inside the air along with the dust particles and transfer them via the pipe to the dust bag. At least a camera is provided on the brush head and used for capturing images of the area to be swept. In order to illuminate dark areas a light source is provided on the brush head preferably next to the camera. A display that is utilized to display the image captured by the camera is provided on to the body. An angular position sensor is placed on to the bracket and is used to calculate the angle between the pipe and the brush head. The angle, calculated by the angular position sensor is then transmitted to the control unit which in turn activates the dc motor attached to a hinge that is used to rotatable attach the display to the body. As long as the angle is more than the limit value predetermined by the manufacturer, dc motor remains inactive. When the angle drops under the limit value predetermined by the manufacturer, the control unit decides that the user is sweeping under a furniture or a household appliance and activates the dc motor, camera, light source and the display so as to provide the user with a visual of the area normally out of sight. In order to provide the user with a consistent view, the control unit continuously checks the angle between the pipe and the brush head and adjusts the angle between the display and the body by activation of the dc motor accordingly. Thereupon, the center of the line of sight of the user continuously makes an angle close to the right angle helping the user to see the area that needs to be swept in an ergonomic way.
- In the stick vacuum cleaner of the present invention the control unit activates the dc motor when the angle between the pipe and the brush head falls below 25 degrees and more specifically below 10 degrees. Therefore, narrow places under the furniture are easily accesable by the user. Additionally, the user is allowed to manually enter his or her height on to the display. Depending on the user's height, control unit makes necessary adjustments to the angle between the display and the body, therefore providing ease of use and convenience for the user.
- In an embodiment of the invention the control unit is in wireless communication with the cameras, the light source and the angular position sensor. The cameras, the light source and the angular position sensor are in connection with a wireless communication hub preferably located on the brush head which is in wireless communication with the control unit.
- In an embodiment of the invention the control unit is connected to the camera, the light source and the angular position sensor via a cable. The cable extends between the brush head and the body and is covered inside a cable duct positioned underneath the pipe.

- It is an objective of the present invention to realize a stick vacuum cleaner having a camera and a display which are connected to a control unit to automatically adjust the angle of the display relative to the body so as to provide an easy and ergonomic use for the user.

- The present invention relates to a stick vacuum cleaner (1) comprising; a body (2), a brush head (3) having a bracket (4), a pipe (5) extending between and rotatably connecting the body (2) to the brush head (3) via the bracket (4), at least a camera (6) and a light source (7) placed on to the brush head (3) so as to capture the image of the area to be swept, a display (8) placed on to the body (2) to display the image captured by the camera (6).
- The present invention relates to a stick vacuum cleaner (1) comprising; an angular position sensor (9) is placed on to the bracket (4) to measure the angle (A) between the pipe (5) and the brush head (3), a dc motor (10), placed on to the body (2) to rotatably mobilize the display (8) upon activation to form an angle (B) between the body (2) and the display (8), a control unit (11) to activate the dc motor (10) if the angle (A) between the pipe (5) and the brush head (3) falls below a value predetermined by the manufacturer. The angular position sensor (9) is configured to measure the angle between the pipe (5) and the brush head (3) and transmit this value to the control unit (11) simultaneously and continuously. As soon as the angle drops below a limit value predetermined by the manufacturer, the control units (11) decides that the user is currently sweeping under an object and activates the dc motor (10) in order to activate the display (8). Therefore, the visual of the dark and narrow area is provided for the user only if the angle between the pipe (5) and the brush head (3) falls below a limit value, reducing the power consumption of the stick vacuum cleaner (1) by eliminating continous activation of camera (6), light sources (7) and the display (8).
- In another embodiment, the control unit (11) activates the dc motor (10) if the angle (A) between the pipe (5) and the brush head (3) falls below 25 degrees and more specifically below 10 degrees. The limit value of the angle between the pipe (5) and the brush head (3) for the control unit (11) to activate the dc motor (10) so as to rotatably turn the display (8) with respect to the body (2) is 25 degrees and more specifically 10 degrees. Therefore, activation of the dc motor (10) by accident is prevented, thus the battery life of the stick vacuum cleaner (1) is prolonged.
- In another embodiment, the control unit (11) is in wireless communication with the camera (6), the light source (7) and the angular position sensor (9). The camera (6), the light source (7) and the angular position sensor (9) is connected to a communication hub having wireless communication properties which is wirelessly connected to the control unit (11). Thus, cables extending between the brush head (3) and the body (2) are not utilized achieving a cost advantage. Another advantageous effect of using wireless connection is that the cables extending between the brush head (3) and the body (2) are prone to get damaged during sweeping. Use of wireless communication eliminates this possibility therefore decreasing the maintanence costs of the stick vacuum cleaner (1).
- In another embodiment, the control unit (11) is connected to the camera (6), the light source (7) and the angular position sensor (9) via a cable (12) extending between the brush head (3) and the body (2). A cable (12) extending between brush head (3) and the body (2) and covered inside a cable duct provides a cost effective way to connect control unit (11) with the camera (6), the light source (7) and the angular position sensor (9).

- Therefore, an optimum view angle is obtained for the user to observe the display (8).
- A major advantageous effect of the present invention is that the camera (6) and the display (8) are energized only during sweep of areas that are hard to access thereby preserving battery power. Another advantageous effect of the present invention is that the control unit (11) adjusts the angle between the display (8) and the body (2) therefore providing an ergonomic use for the user.
Claims (5)
- A stick vacuum cleaner (1) comprising; a body (2), a brush head (3) having a bracket (4), a pipe (5) extending between and rotatably connecting the body (2) to the brush head (3) via the bracket (4), at least a camera (6) and a light source (7) placed on to the brush head (3) so as to capture the image of the area to be swept, a display (8) placed on to the body (2) to display the image captured by the camera (6), characterized in that an angular position sensor (9) is placed on to the bracket (4) to measure the angle (A) between the pipe (5) and the brush head (3), a dc motor (10), placed on to the body (2) to rotatably mobilize the display (8) upon activation to form an angle (B) between the body (2) and the display (8), a control unit (11) to activate the dc motor (10) if the angle (A) between the pipe (5) and the brush head (3) falls below a value predetermined by the manufacturer.
- A stick vacuum cleaner (1) according to claim 1, characterized in that the control unit (11) activates the dc motor (10) if the angle (A) between the pipe (5) and the brush head (3) falls below 25 degrees and more specifically below 10 degrees.
- A stick vacuum cleaner (1) according to any one of the preceding claims, characterized in that the control unit (11) is in wireless communication with the camera (10), the light source (7) and the angular position sensor (9).
- A stick vacuum cleaner (1) according to claims 1 or 2, characterized in that the control unit (11) is connected to the camera (10), the light source (7) and the angular position sensor (9) via a cable (12) extending between the brush head (3) and the body (2).
