Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a container for consumer goods, in particular, a secure hinge lid container.
  • a locking mechanism maintains the lid in a closed position until a user intends to access the consumer goods.
  • Containers according to the invention find particular application as containers for aerosol generating articles or components of aerosol generating articles.
  • hinge-lid packs having a box for housing the articles and a lid connected to an upper portion of the box about a hinge line extending across the back wall of the container.
  • hinge-lid packs are typically constructed from one-piece laminar cardboard blanks.
  • heat-not-burn aerosol generating articles are also sold in such hinge-lid packs.
  • the lid may take various forms, for example, the form of a simple lid flap or a three-dimensional cup-shaped hinge lid.
  • the lid In use, the lid is pivoted about the hinge line to open the pack and expose an access opening in the box, through which the user may gain access to the consumer goods held within the box.
  • An inner frame is often provided and fixed within the box.
  • the lid In use, the lid is pivoted about the hinge line to open the pack, to expose only an end portion of the consumer goods, and to gain access to the consumer goods held within the box.

  • One of more of the front panel 64 and the right and left side panels 67, 68 of the inner frame member 60 to extend above at least a portion of a top edge of the box 20 along the access opening such that the inner frame member 60 may extend within the lid 30 when in a closed state.
  • An outer surface of the inner frame member 60 faces outwardly from the interior of the container such that the outer surface of the inner frame member 60 will come in contact with the inner surface of the lid 30 when the lid 30 is in a closed position.
  • the inner frame member 60 may comprise the box locking member 44 of the locking mechanism 40.
  • the box locking member 44 may be included in the inner frame member 60 at a location that is engageable within an inner periphery of the lid 30. Namely, the box locking member is positioned on the portion of the inner frame member 60, which extends above the top edge of the box 20.
  • the box locking member 44 may be integrated into the inner frame member 60 as part of the inner frame member 60.
  • the inner frame member 60 may comprise a pair of box locking members 44, with one of the pair disposed on opposing side panels 67, 68 of the inner frame member.
  • the pair of box locking members 44 may be laterally disposed across a width of the container between the two opposite side panels 67, 68.
  • the box locking members 44 may extend outwardly from a plane defined by the side panel 67, 68, respectively, of the inner frame member 60 that the box locking member 44 is disposed on.
  • the box locking member 44 may be a cut portion of the inner frame member 60 that operates like a spring. The cut portion may be defined by two parallel spaced apart cut lines that extend through the material of the inner frame member 60 along a portion of the side panel 67, 68 of the innerframe member 60.
  • the box locking member 44 may extend along a portion of the side panels 67, 68 and a portion of the front panel 64.
  • the box locking mechanism 44 may terminate at a free end.
  • the free end of the box locking mechanism 44 may be extendable partially or fully through the lid engagement member 42 of the lid 30 when aligned.
  • the folded portion of the box locking member 44 extends from a corner bend between the front panel 64 and each of the side panels 67, 68 of the inner frame member, respectively.
  • the lid engagement member 42 may be any shape and size aperture suitable to allow the box locking member 44 to extend fully through the lid engagement member 42.
  • the lid 30 may comprise a pair of lid engagement members 42, with one of the pair each disposed on opposing lid left and right side walls 37, 38.
  • the lid engagement member 42 may be a slotted opening, having a width and length corresponding to the folded portion of the box locking member 44 that is extendable through the lid engagement member 42.
  • the box locking member 44 may extend, or protrude, at least partially within or through the lid periphery wall at the lid engagement member 42 when aligned.
  • the box locking member 44 may extend from an inner surface of the lid 30 to exterior of an outer surface of the lid 30 through the lid engagement member 42 when the container is in the locked state.
  • the box locking member 44 may be resiliently spring like.
  • the box locking member 44 is biased such that a folded portion protrudes outside of a plane of the side panel 67, 68 on which the folded portion of the box locking member 44 is protrudes from in order that the box locking member 44 will come in contact and extend outwardly at least partially within or through the lid engagement member 42 of the lid 30 when aligned, thus, maintaining the lid 30 in a closed position or state with respect to the box 20.
  • the box locking member 44 is adapted to be engageable with and mate with the lid engagement member 42 in order to maintain the box 20 and the lid 30 together in a locked state in which the interior of the container 10 is closed and inaccessible to a user.

  • the box locking member 44 may be manipulated by the user, such as by applying an inward force, as indicated with arrows 80 in FIG. 1 , onto the box locking member 44 to push the box locking member 44 inwardly in order to disengage the box locking member 44 from the lid engagement member 42 and transition the locking mechanism 40 from a locked state to an unlocked state.
  • the inwardly applied force may deflect the box locking member 44 comprising a portion of the box 20 where the box locking member 44 is disposed in order to move the box locking member 44 through the lid engagement member 42.
  • the box locking member 44 may be depressed and deflected away from the lid engagement member 42, as indicated by arrows 80 in FIG. 1 to disengage the box locking member 44 from the lid engagement member 42 to release the lid 30 from the box 20.
  • the interior of the container 10 may remain secured and inaccessible while the box locking member 44 is engaged within the lid engagement member 42 and until the user suitably manipulates the box locking member 44 to disengage the box locking member 44 from the lid engagement member 42 to unlock the locking mechanism 40.
  • the lid 30 may be pivoted along the hinge line 50 to open the container 10 and provide access to the interior of the container, as indicated with arrow 85 in FIG. 2 .
