Description

    A WASHER WITH HEAT PUMP
  • The present invention relates to a washer in which a heat pump is used in heating the washing water.
  • In washers with heat pump, heat is drawn from the environment preferably by means of at least one heat exchanger, and the drawn heat is used to heat the washing water or to heat the drying air. The surface of the heat exchanger is cooler than the environment in order to be able to draw heat from the environment, thereby providing thermal gradient, enabling heat transfer from the environment to the heat exchanger, thereby providing heat gradient, enabling transferring heat from the environment to the heat exchanger. The amount of heat drawn by the heat exchanger increases as the heat gradient rises. Since the environment air temperature is in the range of 20 to 25 degrees Celsius in domestic conditions, the amount of heat the heat exchanger draws from the environment is limited. Jammed placement of heat pump components in the narrow space in a washer makes it obligatory to use a fan to draw heat from the environment. Air intake is performed through air orifices provided preferably invisibly to users on a body. Fans should be operated with high revolutions to enable an effective air circulation. This causes disturbingly high levels of noise. Operating the fans with lower revolutions reduces the noise levels but decreases the heat pump efficiency, prolonging washing durations. It is needed to resolve the noise level problem without requiring longer washing durations.
  • State of the art United States patent document no. US9468355 describes a washer in which a fan is commonly used by a heat pump and in the drying process.
  • State of the art European patent application no. EP2371258 describes a washer in which humid air is prevented from condensing on a body by forming two separate air flows.
  • The aim of the present invention is to realize a washer with enhanced heat pump efficiency and reduced noise levels.
  • The washer realized to achieve the aim of the present invention and disclosed in the claims, comprises a suction vent having a cap covering the air opening enabling air intake into a body, and at least one leg enabling the cap to rest away from the body surface. By means of the suction vent, the air required for a heat pump is introduced into the body such that it advances along a curved path, and fan noise is prevented from leaving the body by enabling it to be damped or to be dispersed into the body by colliding the cap surface. The cap covers the air opening preferably in a C-shape. Noise levels are reduced without requiring any modification on the external appearance of the washer by disposing the suction vent inside the body.
  • In an embodiment of the invention, the washer comprises a tube surrounding the air opening and extending into the body. Air flow is thus enabled to be continuous by creating a vent effect on the air opening. The tube enables resolving the shortages arising from the cap reducing the suction effect of the fan, providing continuous and silent air suction into the body.
  • In another embodiment of the invention, the washer comprises a guide enabling the air advancing from the tube into the cap to be directed into the body. The guide connected to the inner surface of the cap, changes the direction of the air coming from the tube, and enables directing it into the body. This enables smooth air flow from the outer environment into the body, preventing the sound waves from leaving the washer by being reflected or damped.
  • In another embodiment of the invention, the guide comprises a cylindrical portion fitting on the tube, whose width is larger than the diameter of the tube. The air passing through the tube is first directed on the cap surface by means of the cylindrical portion of the guide, and is then enabled to advance into the body towards the fan by being guided in counter direction. Air is thus enabled to advance in an S-shaped path, preventing the sound waves from leaving the washer by enabling them to be damped or reflected on curved structures.
  • In another embodiment of the invention, the washer comprises a monolithic suction vent which can be mounted on a plurality of air openings.
  • In another embodiment of the invention, the suction vent is made of a material with sound damping properties. The sound waves in the body are enabled to be damped by means of the suction vent preferably made of silicone or rubber material, preventing the fan noise from leaving the washer.
  • In other embodiments of the invention, the washer comprises a gasket provided around the fan, made of a material with sound damping properties. Preferably, the gasket completely surrounds the fan. By this, the vibrations generated during operation of the fan are prevented, reducing noise levels.
  • By means of the washer of the invention, the fan enabling drawing air to the heat pump is enabled to operate with high revolutions while generating lower noise levels. By this, while the heat pump placed in a jammed manner in the body is enabled to draw sufficient amounts of air from the outer environment, the fan noise is reduced to levels which would not disturb the users.
  • A washer realized to achieve the aims of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
  • Figure 1 is a partial perspective view of the washer.
  • Figure 2 is a partial perspective view of the washer in an embodiment of the invention.
  • Figure 3 is a schematic view of the suction vent in an embodiment of the invention.
  • Figure 4 is a perspective view of the suction vent in an embodiment of the invention.
  • Figure 5 is a partial perspective view of the washer in another embodiment of the invention.
  • Figure 6 is a perspective view of the fan.

  • The washer (1) comprises a body (2), a heat pump (3) provided in the body (2), enabling heating the washing water and having at least one heat exchanger (4), at least one fan (5) enabling directing the ambient air on the heat exchanger (4), and at least one air opening (6) provided on the body (2), allowing the ambient air to enter into the body (2). In the washer (1), ambient air is drawn into the body (2) through the air opening (6) and directed onto the heat exchanger (4) by means of the fan (5). The washing water is heated by the heat pump (3) having the heat exchanger (4) drawing heat from the outer environment.
  • The washer (1) of the invention comprises a suction vent (7) provided in the body (2), having a cap (8) at least partially covering the air opening (6), and a leg (9) whose one end is connected to the cap (8) and the other end to the body (2). The cap (8) is positioned so as to completely cover the air opening (6) without a leg (9), and is disposed away from the body (2) surface by means of the leg (9), allowing air passage. The fan (5) noise thus collides the cap (8) surface and is dispersed into the body (2), preventing the noise from leaving through the air opening (6). The cap (8) preferably has a C-shape, covering the air opening (6). Thus, most of the fan (5) noise is enabled to be dispersed and entrapped in the body (2) by colliding the outer surface of the cap (8).
  • In an embodiment of the invention, the washer (1) comprises a tube (10) extending towards into the body (2) so as to surround the air opening (6). The air flow rate is increased by means of the tube (10) extending from the air opening (6) into the body (2), enabling drawing a higher amount of air in a unit of time into the body (2) thanks to generating a tunnel effect. The tube (10) enables air to be first filled into the cap (8), and then to be dispersed in the body (2). By this, the sound waves cannot advance continuously on a straight path, thereby reducing the noise levels transmitted to the outer environment.
  • In another embodiment of the invention, the washer (1) comprises a guide (11) connected to cap (8) surface, enabling the air advancing in the tube (10) to be directed into the body (2). The guide (11) also enables air to follow a convoluted (meandering) path instead of a straight one, and thus the sound output to be minimized while enabling air flow through the air opening (6).
  • In another embodiment of the invention, the guide (11) comprises a cylindrical portion (12) fitting partially on the tube (10), with a diameter larger than that of the tube (10). The cylindrical portion (12) of the guide (11) fits on the tube (10) and air is enabled to follow an S-shaped path. Thus, sound output is minimized while enabling air intake through the air opening (6), as expressed above.
  • In another embodiment of the invention, the suction vent (7) comprises a cap (8) covering a plurality of air openings (6) and extending along the body (2). The suction vent (7) is monolithic and has a large cap (8) resting on a plurality of air openings (6).
  • In another embodiment of the invention, the suction vent (7) is made of a material with sound damping properties. Preferably silicone or rubber material is used to that end. The sound waves colliding the outer surface of the cap (8) in the body (2) are thus weakened or completely damped, thereby minimizing the noise levels heard outside.
