Description

AN INSULATION BLOCK
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to an insulation block (wedge) which is used to prevent entry of undesirable substances such as dust, mud, snow and water to the canister filter in the vehicles. Background of the Invention
There is always some gasoline (fuel) vapor over the liquid gasoline in the fuel tanks of the gasoline engines. When the engine is not running, the vapor gas generated in the fuel tank is absorbed and stored by the canister device. When the engine is running, the fuel vapor absorbed by the canister is delivered to the suction system or outside of the vehicle via a cleaning control solenoid valve. The canister device and the canister filter are used upon being fixed to the upper part of the vehicle mudguard; and in cases where the canister is located in the rear wheelhouse of the vehicle, the filter becomes clogged due to exposure to external conditions such as dust, mud, water and snow and thus fails to fulfill its function. Substances such as dust, snow, water, mud, etc. spattered from the wheel enter the canister region through the mudguard plastic piece and the upper part of the metal mudguard hood and clog the filter. In the Japanese patent document no. JP21062727, an application in the state of the art, a fuel tank and a canister for absorbing evaporated fuel from the fuel tank are provided in the rear side of the vehicle, and an air suction filter is used for removing the dust in the air suction pipe. The canister filter in the said invention is fixed on a support plate in order to be protected against damages that might be caused by objects such as stones coming from the wheels. The United States patent document no. US20090101119, an application in the state of the art, discloses a cap structure (10) provided on a carbon canister structure. In the said invention, the integrated cap is used for protecting the cap canister against dust.
Problems Solved by the Invention
The objective of the present invention is to provide an insulation block, which prevents the entry of undesirable substances such as dust, mud, snow and water to the canister and canister filter through the vehicle mudguard cavity, and which enables to protect the canister filter.
The objective of the present invention is to provide an insulation block which allows the passage of air and allows discharge of the air passing through the filter by preventing the passage of the other substances.
Another objective of the present invention is to provide an insulation block which prevents the foreign bodies from accumulating on the mudguard and causing weight on the mudguard.
A further objective of the present invention is to provide a removable insulation block mounted on the air passage opening between the vehicle body panel and the mudguard hood.
Detailed Description of the Invention
An insulation block developed to fulfill the objective of the present invention is illustrated in the accompanying figures, in which:
Figure 1 is a side view of the insulation block of the present invention when mounted to the vehicle mudguard and the body panel. Figure 2 is a front view of the insulation block of the present invention.
Figure 3 is a front perspective view of the insulation block of the present invention. The components shown in the figures are each given reference numbers as follows:
1. Block
2. Body
21. Recess
22. Extension
3. Mounting plate
4. Connecting member
C. Canister
G. Vehicle body panel
A. Mudguard panel
The block (1) for preventing entry of undesirable substances such as dust, mud, snow, water, etc. to the canister (K), canister (K) filter and the mudguard through the opening between the mudguard panel (A) and the vehicle body panel (G) comprises
a rigid body (2) for use by placing it on the opening located between the mudguard panel (A) and the vehicle body panel (G) and for the foreign bodies coming from the outside of the vehicle to hit and rebound therefrom,
at least one recess (21), which is provided on the body, and through which the pipes passing between the mudguard panel (A) and the vehicle body panel (G) pass,
an end extension (22), which extends and gets narrower from the body (2) towards the comer between the mudguard panel (A) and the vehicle body panel (G). The insulation block (1) according to the present invention is used by placing it on the channel which is located between the mudguard panel (A) and the vehicle body panel (G) and which extends outwardly from the rear of the vehicle's mudguard. The body (2) of the said block (1) has a shape compatible with the area between the mudguard panel (A) and the vehicle body panel (G) and completely covers this opening. This way, the invention does not allow passage of dust, stone, mud, snow, water, etc. through the opening due to the wheel or road conditions, thereby preventing the accumulation of the said undesirable substances on the mudguard, and preventing the canister (K) and the canister filter from being damaged by these substances. The body (2) of the block (1) according to the invention is in the form of a rigid body and the undesirable substances (dust, stone, mud, snow, water, etc.) that are coming onto it hit the rigid body and rebound from there.
In one embodiment of the present invention, a recess (21) is provided on the body (2) of the block (1) and the connecting pipes pass through the recess (21), and this way, the opening is completely covered, except for the part through which the pipes pass.
In one embodiment of the present invention, there is provided an extension (22) extending from the body of the body (2) and constricting in conformity with the connection part of the mudguard panel (A) and the vehicle body panel (G).
In one embodiment of the present invention, the block (1) is secured in the form of an interference fit between the metal mudguard panel (A) and the body panel (G), and then the mudguard plastic piece is mounted to complete the mudguard region. In one embodiment of the present invention, the side portions of the body of the block (1) contacting the mudguard panel (A) and the body panel (G) are inclined to fully fit in these places. In one embodiment of the invention, the block (1) is made of an insulation material.
In one embodiment of the invention, the block (1) is made of a selectively permeable material that allows passage of only air. This way, the fuel vapor leaving the canister (K) can exit through the channel. Furthermore, with its selective permeability feature, the block (1) serves as a filter for the area between the mudguard panel (A) and the body panel (G).
In one embodiment of the invention, the selectively permeable material is POM- acetal plastic (Polyoxymethylene). By means of the said feature of the material, the passage of the solid and liquid substances through the opening will be prevented while allowing the passage of fuel gas and air.
In another embodiment of the present invention, a flat or L- shaped mounting plate (3) is provided, which is located on the body (2) of the block (1) or can be fixed on the body (2), and which has a hole thereon. The block (1) is fixed onto the opening by means of a connecting member (4) passing through the hole on the mounting plate (3) and the hole on the mudguard panel (A) or the body panel (G).
