Description

The present invention relates to a one-piece amplified acoustic enclosure device.

As anyone can tell with their phone, a small speaker is incapable of reproducing bass frequencies. With more generally compact audio products, the amplifier/speaker combination available does not generally allow this objective to be achieved either for lack of means: amplifier power (or batteries) too low, distortion rate in the important bass frequencies at high level, all coupled with speakers that are also too small.

Thus, the audio market for decades has been globally divided in two with, on the one hand, bulky and expensive high-fidelity systems and, on the other, mediocre quality compact systems that do not allow, among other things, to make coexist quality listening in the bass frequencies with a high sound level.

There are technical solutions to compensate for the lack of volume of the loudspeakers while improving their overall acoustic performance.

Integrated servo systems make it possible to control the elongation of the membranes of the bass loudspeaker or, as described in the patent US 6,353,670 (GASNER DONALD R ), harmful resonances measured occasionally at certain frequencies inside the loudspeakers themselves. While increasing or reducing punctually the extent of the displacement of their membranes and thereby the sound level of the speakers in the low register, we manage to control these same displacements by limiting them at high power when their voice coil deviates too much of its magnetic field or when the sound level at certain frequencies causes undesirable internal resonance effects, so that any distortion or sound coloration can be contained permanently, whatever the listening level. These systems, which require specific electronic circuits and often complex sensors, as shown in the patent US 6,353,670 mentioned above, as well as, if possible, an amplification all the more powerful as the size of the loudspeakers decreases, are reserved for high-end productions.

In addition, given the necessary simplification and miniaturization of loudspeakers in recent years, there are systems which make it possible, from differentiated multi-channel amplifiers, to improve stereophonic diffusion, as is illustrated for example in the patent application US 2008285762 (IWAMOTO KEIICHI ), from a one-piece source, making it possible in particular to actively control the stereophonic effect by interferometry. But without addressing the problem posed above, namely the improvement of the reproduction of bass frequencies inside a low volume of loudspeakers.

Essentially, and in a general way, at the level of the reproduction of the low register, many systems, generally simpler, of compact loudspeakers are developed by making use of loudspeakers with great elongation placed in a closed load. This technique, which makes it possible to accept a certain theoretical power, does not, however, make it possible to offer, particularly with small diameter loudspeakers, sufficient acoustic performance given the significant drop in sound level observed in the low frequencies. using this technique; the diagram of the Figure 4 illustrates the above. It is also possible and very common to use vented speaker systems. These systems, as can be seen comparatively on the same diagram of the Figure 4 , allow better acoustic performance in the low frequencies. Given the significant elongations of the bass speaker concerned - except when the latter is of large diameter - which are no longer controlled by the compression of the volume of closed air placed at the rear of the latter's membrane as on a closed enclosure, a significant rise in the distortion measured at high power is observed in the low register.

It is the same with another type of technology which has become widely used in recent years, in particular for the production of miniature speakers on batteries: this is the passive radiator, which multiplies by two the radiation of the loudspeaker in the lower end of the sound spectrum and thus noticeably increases the sound level in this frequency range. But which also does not allow a high sound level to be supported without distortion. However, there is a solution that makes it possible to reconcile these different advantages without their main disadvantages, described above.

This patent describes a device which consists in placing two loudspeakers one behind the other. A vent connecting in a pneumatically sealed manner the outside of the enclosure to its internal rear volume and passing through a baffle parallel to the facade, perforated and supporting the second loudspeaker, makes it possible to recover the rear wave emitted by this one.

Thanks to the mechanical action generated by the volume of air between them, the two loudspeakers control their possible excessive elongations and thereby allow, at an equivalent sound power level, to significantly reduce the distortion observed in the low frequencies. compared to that of a conventional loudspeaker of equivalent size. A better sound level is also obtained in the low register than with a conventional closed load while maintaining, as for a vented speaker, a good level bandwidth in the bottom of the sound spectrum while remaining compatible with a resistance in power without distortion.

This technique, which by definition concerned traditional loudspeakers equipped with passive filters, does however have drawbacks.

The loudspeakers of such a device are intended to be connected to a separate multi-purpose amplifier. The rear loudspeaker, connected to the audio output of the external amplifier, is connected with the front loudspeaker according to a parallel electrical diagram. The front loudspeaker, when it is relayed in frequencies towards the top of the sound spectrum only by tweeters, is responsible for reproducing in this classic configuration scheme the low register as well as the mid/high register. The so-called rear loudspeaker, whose cone is directed towards the rear of the front loudspeaker membrane and which is therefore not filtered separately, logically rises in frequency like the front loudspeaker, producing in the direction of the rear of the membrane of the latter, especially beyond 120 Hz, interference in the form of standing waves harmful to sound reproduction and sound clarity in the midrange of the entire system.

Moreover, and conversely, over the entire frequency range below 120 Hz, the two loudspeakers operate strictly in piston as well as in phase. As a result, the pneumatic coupling of the two loudspeakers makes it possible to significantly reduce the overall distortion of the loudspeaker in the low frequencies, by reducing in this frequency range the travel of the two membranes at high power. On the other hand, beyond this threshold (120 - 150 Hz) the front loudspeaker, which no longer functions as a piston, is out of phase with respect to the rear loudspeaker, thereby causing a level drop. Finally, the front loudspeaker, which has a small volume of air at the rear of its membrane, intrinsically resonates at a frequency significantly higher than that of the rear loudspeaker, which prevents it, while by consuming power unnecessarily, to be electrically active in the extreme bass, unlike the rear loudspeaker. Finally, the double partition leads to an obligatory complication of the traditional cabinet-making scheme, to a larger and less watertight volume as well as to a complication of the assembly labor dedicated to this second internal loudspeaker.

The device that is the subject of the present invention, while adopting this same arrangement of loudspeakers in tandem, aims to overcome all of the various disadvantages described above, as well as seizing the opportunity offered by recent technical possibilities in terms of powerful, compact and high-performance amplifications.

This device according to the invention, reference being made to the Figures 1, 2 and 3 , consists of a front loudspeaker (1) and a rear loudspeaker (2), mechanically coupled together via a small volume of air itself preferably delimited by a room link forming a watertight bulkhead (4) and connecting these two loudspeakers. This connecting piece can be of complex shape, adapted to the geometry of said loudspeakers and manufactured possibly using injection, thermoforming or 3D printing techniques. A vent (5) ensures the pneumatic connection between the outside air and the internal part of the enclosure located outside this sealed volume; a second vent (5') can also be provided as is apparent from the Figure 3 . This or these vents make it possible to recover the acoustic energy produced by the rear loudspeaker (2) and can emerge either towards the front of the enclosure ( Figure 2 and 3 ) or behind it ( Figure 1 ). The rear loudspeaker (2) intrinsically has a lower resonance frequency than that of the front loudspeaker (1), the latter being loaded at the rear of its membrane by a minimum volume of air; but it can, according to one embodiment, also be designed for this purpose. The device according to the invention also comprises an internal amplifier, preferably of class D, integrated into the enclosure. It consists of at least two channels (3) and (3') connected separately to each loudspeaker (1) and (2). Each of these two amplified central channels is calibrated in order to allow a precise and differentiated modulation of their frequency ranges concerning the characteristics of each loudspeaker (1) and (2) and, where appropriate, of their respective sound levels. This filtering makes it possible in particular, for example, and in this embodiment, to gradually reduce the level of the rear loudspeaker (2) above and from 70 Hz, as illustrated in the diagram of the Figure 5 , in order to avoid, as explained above, any negative interference from the rear loudspeaker (2) to the front loudspeaker (1).

Ainsi, dans le dispositif selon l'invention chaque canal d'amplification (3), (3') pourra être atténué de façon différenciée d'au moins - 6db en dessous ou autour de chaque fréquence de résonnance des deux haut-parleurs (1) et (2).Similarly, given the phase inversion typically seen in this type of setup above 130 Hz and the resulting front speaker level drop from that frequency (down to around 200 Hz), at the same time, this last attenuation will significantly reduce this phenomenon. In addition, the natural drop in sound efficiency observed for any low-volume loudspeaker in the bass frequencies can thus be actively corrected by a dedicated electronic adjustment which makes it possible to obtain a notable increase in the sound level of these bass frequencies, without altering the distortion rate nor to the detriment of the intelligibility of low-mid frequencies. The distance from the distortion limit obtained advantageously makes it possible, thanks to this high level of amplification integrated into the enclosure, to achieve compensation equal or greater than 5 db for a range of frequencies situated here below 100 Hz with respect to the average linear level of amplification relating to the frequencies situated above this threshold. Thus, in the device according to the invention, each amplification channel (3), (3') can be attenuated in a differentiated manner by at least -6db below or around each resonance frequency of the two loudspeakers (1 ) and (2).

Other more or less high thresholds and frequencies could of course be predefined on a case-by-case basis depending on the yields and the diameter of the various loudspeakers used as well as the amplification powers available.

In the same way, the device according to the invention allows an optimization of the feedback rate of the amplifier. An external amplifier should be versatile and its feedback rate is high (usually around 1 volt for a gain of 2000). By lowering the feedback rate of a standard amplifier, it would be possible to obtain with traditional loudspeakers a widening of their bandwidth, but the loudspeakers of these loudspeakers would not fail to quickly saturate, distort, then deteriorate. The device according to the invention makes it possible to circumvent this problem and to reduce the feedback rate of the dedicated amplifier for gain values substantially less than 1000 for 1 volt at the level of the channels (3), (3') while keeping speaker distortion low and sound more natural.

Two or four additional amplified channels, if any, will also make it possible to separately supply the loudspeakers specialized in the high frequencies (6) and (6') concerning the treble and possibly the midrange, as provided in a variant embodiment of the present invention. Advantageously, the treble loudspeakers (6) and (6') and possibly midrange loudspeakers will be supplied separately by differentiated amplifier channels.

As emerges from the foregoing, several variant embodiments of the device according to the invention are possible, without thereby departing from the scope of said invention.

The variant of the Figure 1 relates to a device in which the two loudspeakers (1) and (2) are schematically represented inside an amplified one-piece enclosure of conventional architecture and equipped with a single vent (5) facing the rear of the 'pregnant ; to the Figure 2 , this vent (5) faces the front of said enclosure.

The variant illustrated in Figure 3 relates to a device in which the two loudspeakers (1) and (2) are schematically represented inside a one-piece enclosure amplified, equipped with a treble distribution system via the loudspeakers (6) and (6'), as well as two vents (5) and (5') facing the front of said enclosure.

Chaque canal d'amplification (3), (3') est atténué progressivement et à partir de chaque fréquence de résonnance des haut-parleurs (1), (2).In a way that is simple to produce and inexpensive, both in terms of the on-board electronics and the acoustic layout, we have, in a particularly compact enclosure volume and where a single loudspeaker would have more quickly reached its limits in in terms of admissible power, of an active loudspeaker configuration making it possible to obtain a particularly low distortion rate in the bass frequencies and a response curve that is noticeably extended downwards given the volumes available, including at high power. This is achieved by integrating and calibrating an internal amplifier comprising at least two independent channels (3) (3'), the sound level of each channel of which is filtered and modulated in order to avoid any negative interaction between the two loudspeakers (1) and (2) and so that it can be raised significantly (by at least + 3 db) below frequencies situated around 200 Hz (low frequency register). Advantageously, the power level of the channel which supplies the rear loudspeaker (2), within a frequency range situated between the resonance frequency of this loudspeaker (2) and possibly up to 200 Hz , is occasionally raised by at least +3db with respect to the average amplification power level of the loudspeakers. These distinct amplification channels (3) and (3') each have their specific frequency band so that the frequency response curve of the rear loudspeaker (2) is progressively attenuated by at least 3db from and above a frequency range between 60 Hz and 120 Hz. Each amplification channel (3), (3') is gradually attenuated and starting from each resonance frequency of the loudspeakers (1), (2).

In the same way, in order to avoid any useless consumption of power by the amplifier in the lowest frequencies, it will be possible to strongly attenuate the amplification of the bass frequencies below the values represented by each of the resonance frequencies of the highs. -speakers concerned, for example below 40 Hz, as shown in the diagram of the Figure 5 of this description.

The curve of the Figure 6 is the frequency response curve, after corrections, of the rear loudspeaker (2), of the front loudspeaker (1) as well as the representation (in dotted line) at the junction of these of their resulting curve.

Recent advances in the digital field (class D amplifiers) also make it possible to advantageously have significant and adjustable power in the low frequencies at relatively low cost, all in a small footprint and without fear of uncontrolled rise in the internal temperature of the system. The assembly can also incorporate loudspeakers (6) and (6') responsible for reproducing the high frequencies and possibly the mids, which can thus be placed either according to conventional loudspeaker diagrams ( Figure 1 and Figure 2 ) or possibly according to more complex schemes ( Figure 3 ). On the Figure 3 the loudspeakers (6) and (6') responsible for restoring the high frequencies have been advantageously inclined upwards and positioned in an opposite direction from the loudspeakers (1) and (2) in order to benefit more advantageously to the set of a spatial effect. A more traditional configuration is shown on the Figures 1 and 2 for those tweeters and/or midrange speakers that are not angled. All of these different loudspeakers dedicated to high frequencies can be controlled in frequency by conventional means (passive filters) or preferably by specific active systems (amplifiers).
