  • Anionic polyester terephthalates are known as soil release (whiteness boosting) polymers on fabrics. However, it was surprisingly found, both under single as well as under multi-cycle testing, that anionic polyester terephthalates can also be used to reduce malodours on fabrics. Without wishing to be bound by theory, it is believed that the ethoxylate groups of the polyester terephthalate polymer are thought to create a hydrophilic layer on the fabric surface, especially on hydrophobic fabrics such as polyester, resulting in reduced (re-) adherence of hydrophobic soils on fabrics during the wash cycle or during subsequent use of the fabrics.

  • the malodor sensor swatches are assessed by 9 trained external (i.e. non-employees) sensory expert panelists, who grade on malodor intensity and were trained on how to grade the prepared fabrics for dry fabric malodor intensity using their typical 0 (no malodor left) -100 (strong malodor left) scale.
  • the malodor assessment is conducted 2-fold, i.e. before and after rubbing the malodor sensor swatches. All samples were labeled with a blinded 3-digit code, and presentation order was randomized.
  • test swatches are folded in 2 and opposite ends of the half-folded swatches are stretched with 2 hands.
  • the left and right side of the test swatch are consequently sniffed, prior to flipping over the top end of the test swatch to assess the opposite side of the test swatch by sniffing again the left and right side.

  • All 40 test swatches are assessed first for pre-rub, prior to move to post-rub assessment. A break of 2 minutes is provided in-between different test swatch evaluations. The average pre-rub malodor intensity grade of the 40 test swatches and the 9 panelists is calculated and recorded.

  • the 2 hands are consequently brought together and with pressure rubbed together up and down 5 times, at a trained and calibrated pressure of 1.2 to 2.4 psi.
  • the rubbed area of the test swatch is consequently sniffed and a remaining malodor intensity grade on a zero (no malodor left) to 100 (strong malodor left) scale is again provided.
  • All 40 test swatches are assessed for post-rub. A break of 2 minutes is provided in-between different test swatch evaluations. The average post-rub malodor intensity grade of the 40 test swatches and the 9 panelists is calculated and recorded.
  • Test swatches were cut in 2x2.5 inch pieces and placed in a 10 ml headspace crimp vial, and allowed to equilibrate for 12 hours prior to running the analytical measurement. Test results were compared versus malodor standards to quantify amount of remaining malodor. Malodor standards for analysis were prepared by pipetting 1.18 mL of the malodor standard at room temperature into 10 mL deactivated headspace vials and equilibrated in an oven @ 80 C for 90 minutes and allowed to sit overnight before analysis.

Claims (15)

  1. Verwendung eines Polyesterterephthalatpolymers zur Verringerung von schlechtem Geruch auf einem Stoff, wobei das Polyesterterephthalat ein Polyesterterephthalatgerüst umfasst und das Polyesterterephthalatgerüst mit einer oder mehreren anionischen Gruppen gepfropft ist.
  2. Verwendung nach Anspruch 1, wobei das Polyesterterephthalat verwendet wird zum:
    a. Verringern von schlechtem Geruch auf Stoffen während eines Wäschewaschvorgangs, wobei das Polyesterterephthalatpolymer in einer Waschflotte enthalten ist und die Waschflotte mit dem Stoff in Kontakt ist;
    b. Verringern von schlechtem Geruch auf Stoffen während der Verwendung der Stoffe nach einem Waschvorgang, wobei in dem Waschvorgang das Polyesterterephthalatpolymer in einer Waschflotte enthalten ist und die Waschflotte in Kontakt mit dem Stoff ist und nach dem Kontakt das Polyesterterephthalatpolymer auf die Stoffen abgeschieden wird;
    c. Verringern von schlechtem Geruch auf Stoffen während eines Wäschewaschvorgangs, wobei das Polyesterterephthalatpolymer auf dem Stoff enthalten ist, bevor der Stoff mit einer Waschflotte in Kontakt gebracht wird;
    d. oder eine Mischung davon.
  3. Verwendung nach Anspruch 2, wobei das Polyesterterephthalat in der Waschflotte vorzugsweise in einer Konzentration zwischen 1 ppm und 200 ppm, vorzugsweise zwischen 5 ppm und 150 ppm, bevorzugter zwischen 10 ppm und 100 ppm vorliegt.
  4. Verwendung nach Anspruch 3, wobei die Waschflotte durch Verdünnen einer Wäschewaschmittelzusammensetzung in Wasser, Verdünnen einer Stoffweichmacherzusammensetzung in Wasser oder einer Mischung davon hergestellt wird und wobei die Wäschewaschmittelzusammensetzung, die Stoffweichmacherzusammensetzung oder eine Mischung davon das Polyesterterephthalatpolymer umfasst.
  5. Verwendung nach Anspruch 4, wobei das Polyesterterephthalatpolymer in einer Wäschewaschmittelzusammensetzung enthalten ist und die Wäschewaschmittelzusammensetzung in einem wasserlöslichen Einheitsdosisartikel enthalten ist, wobei der wasserlösliche Einheitsdosisartikel eine wasserlösliche Folie umfasst.
  6. Verwendung nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei das Polyesterterephthalatpolymer eine Kombination der Struktureinheiten (I) bis (III) umfasst:

            (I)     -[(OCHR1-CHR2)a-O-OC-Ar-CO-]d

            (II)     -[(OCHR3-CHR4)b-O-OC-sAr-CO-]e

            (III)     -[(OCHR5-CHR6)c-OR7]f

    wobei:
    a, b und c von 1 bis 200 sind;
    d, e und f von 1 bis 50 sind;
    Ar ein 1,4-substituiertes Phenylen ist;
    sAr 1,3-substituiertes Phenylen ist, das an Position 5 mit SO3Me substituiert ist;
    Me für Li, K, Mg/2, Ca/2, Al/3, Ammonium, Mono-, Di-, Tri- oder Tetraalkylammonium steht, wobei die Alkylgruppen (C1-C22)-Alkyl oder (C2-C10)-Hydroxyalkyl oder Mischungen davon sind;
    R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 und R6 unabhängig voneinander ausgewählt sind aus H oder (C1-C18)n- oder Isoalkyl, vorzugsweise Methyl; und R7 ein lineares oder verzweigtes (C1-C18)-Alkyl oder ein lineares oder verzweigtes (C2-C30)-Alkenyl oder eine Cycloalkylgruppe mit 5 bis 9 Kohlenstoffatomen, eine (C6-C30)-Arylgruppe oder eine (C6-C50)-Arylalkylgruppe, vorzugsweise Phenyl oder Benzyl ist.
  7. Zusammensetzung nach Anspruch 6, wobei:
    R1 bis R6 unabhängig H oder Methyl sind,
    R7 Methyl ist,
    a, b und c eine Zahl von 1 bis 20 sind, vorzugsweise a und b 1 sind und c eine Zahl von 2 bis 10 ist,
    d eine Zahl zwischen 1 und 25, vorzugsweise zwischen 1 und 10, mehr bevorzugt zwischen 1 und 5 ist,
    e eine Zahl zwischen 1 und 30, vorzugsweise zwischen 2 und 15, mehr bevorzugt zwischen 3 und 10 ist und
    f eine Zahl zwischen 0,05 und 15, vorzugsweise zwischen 0,1 und 10, mehr bevorzugt zwischen 0,25 und 3 ist.
  8. Verwendung nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei der schlechte Geruch Körperschmutz, Speiseöle und chemische Abbauprodukte davon, Nichtlebensmittelöle und chemische Abbauprodukte davon oder Mischungen davon, vorzugsweise hydrolysierbare Fettsäureester und chemische Abbauprodukte davon, hydrolysierbare Triglyceridester und chemische Abbauprodukte davon oder eine Mischung davon umfasst.
  9. Verwendung nach einem der Ansprüche 2-8, wobei die Waschflotte ein Nicht-Seifen-Tensid umfasst, wobei das Nicht-Seifen-Tensid vorzugsweise in einer Konzentration zwischen 10 ppm und 2000 ppm, vorzugsweise zwischen 50 ppm und 1500 ppm, am meisten bevorzugt zwischen 100 ppm und 1000 ppm vorliegt.
  10. Verwendung nach Anspruch 9, wobei das Nicht-Seifen-Tensid ein anionisches Nicht-Seifen-Tensid, ein nichtionisches Tensid oder eine Mischung davon umfasst, wobei vorzugsweise das Gewichtsverhältnis von anionischem Nicht-Seifen-Tensid zu nichtionischem Tensid von 1:2 bis 20:1, vorzugsweise von 1:1 bis 15:1, mehr bevorzugt von 1,5:1 bis 15:1, am meisten bevorzugt von 3:1 bis 15:1 beträgt.
  11. Verwendung nach Anspruch 9 oder 10, wobei das anionische Nicht-Seifen-Tensid lineares Alkylbenzolsulfonat, Alkylsulfat, alkoxyliertes Alkylsulfat oder eine Mischung davon umfasst, wobei vorzugsweise das Gewichtsverhältnis von linearem Alkylbenzolsulfonat zu alkoxyliertem Alkylsulfat zwischen 15:1 und 1:15, vorzugsweise 10:1 und 1:10, mehr bevorzugt 5:1 und 1:5, noch mehr bevorzugt 4:1 und 1:4 beträgt.
  12. Verwendung nach einem der Ansprüche 2-11, wobei die Waschflotte einen Zusatzbestandteil umfasst, der ausgewählt ist aus Abtönungsfarbstoffen, Polymeren, Buildern, Farbübertragungshemmern, Dispergiermitteln, Enzymstabilisatoren, katalytischen Materialien, Bleichmitteln, Bleichmittelaktivatoren, polymeren Dispergiermitteln, Antiwiederablagerungsmitteln, Schaumunterdrückern, ästhetischen Farbstoffen, Trübungsmitteln, Duftstoffen, Duftstoffabgabesystemen, Strukturmitteln, hydrotropen Verbindungen, Verarbeitungshilfsmitteln, Pigmenten, amphoteren Tensiden, cyclischen Diaminen, zwitterionischen Polyaminen, Antioxidationsmitteln, Konservierungsstoffen und Mischungen davon, vorzugsweise ausgewählt aus Fettsäuren, neutralisiertem Fettsäuresalz, Carboxymethylcellulose, amphiphilem Pfropfcopolymer, Hydroxyethylcellulose, modifizierter Hydroxyethylcellulose, einem Enzym, Sulfit oder einer Mischung davon.
  13. Verwendung nach Anspruch 12, wobei das Enzym ausgewählt ist aus Protease, Amylase, Lipase, Cellulase, Mannanase, Pektatlyase, Xyloglucanase, Keratinase oder einer Mischung davon.
  14. Verwendung nach einem der vorstehenden Ansprüche, wobei der Stoff ausgewählt ist aus Baumwolle, Polybaumwolle, Polyester oder Mischungen davon, wobei der Stoff vorzugsweise Polyester umfasst.
  15. Verwendung nach den Ansprüchen 2-14, wobei die Waschflotte einen Chelatbildner, ein Antioxidationsmittel oder eine Mischung davon umfasst.
